Chapter 2 - Atomic Habits

Hi, y'all! I'm back into writing reviews since I have not been feeling up to writing short stories lately. But as always, I have only good books to recommend and this week we have Atomic Habits.

You've most certainly heard about this one already but what you haven't heard is this book...does not work for me, like it probably won't work for others.

While it has interesting tidbits of information that might help you along the way, suffice to say I have learnt nothing from it (Sad face)

Without further ado, I will tell you what it is about.

WHAT – James Clear talks about the habits that lead us to success, no matter what our view of success is. In this book, he teaches us how to implement these habits so we get the expected result we all strive for – the satisfaction that we achieved all of our goals and how we can get rid of those bad habits we don't like to admit we have.

He organized his book into four chapters, also known as the Four Laws of habit implementation:

1. Mental clues - A chapter focusing on small clues our brain receives which leads to the success/failure of our habits

2. Attractiveness – how attractive/non-attractive a habit has to be to us so we would implement it/get rid of it once and for all (yey)

3. The two-minute rule – two minutes is better than nothing at all (which is the only thing I found to work for me from this book)

4. Satisfaction – in which the author talks about the difference an outside motivator (such as a friend who pushes you to go to the gym for example) can make in our lives.

The book also has an introduction where he analyses how our habits shape our lives and a closing statement where he dissects how we can remain motivated enough to stick to our good habits and what ultimately influences their success.

WHY – I think you should read this book, even though it did not work out for me, because it has interesting ideas that can be easily implemented, offering you simple steps to follow. Also, I loved his writing style; it felt so personal and engaging which made me finish the book despite my not being able to apply all his tips in my own life. It allowed me to understand my habits better too so I'm the one to blame for not changing them. I'm lazy y'know?

CONCLUSION: Everyone is different, and we've got to remember that; even if it did not work out for me this book has the potential to change your life and I'd grab that opportunity with both hands!
