Chapter 1 - I Saved You

Jing Ari opened her eyes and found herself inside a room. She roamed her eyes around, the wall in the room was completely a mess.

There were a lot of colors, shapes, things, and people doodled on the wall. She could guess that it was the work of a kid.

But she closed her eyes, trying to recall what happened to her. And as soon as she remembered it, she hastily pulled off the blanket. She went down from the bed and she walked but she slumped down on the floor.

And soon, she heard the opening of the door. She looked up and found the nurse rushing to her.

"Why did you move already?" the nurse spoke in her gentle voice.

"I need to see my parents," she said desperately as she tried to stand up but the nurse stopped her.

"Calm down Miss Ari."You need to rest-" she shook her head.

"My parents are trapped inside that house, I need to see them. Help me." the nurse held Ari's arms, trying to calm her.

But Ari pushed the nurse as she stood up forcefully and tried to walk towards the door but she collapsed on the ground again.

"Miss Ari." the nurse called out, catching Ari's arm again.

Ari struggled, pulling her arm from the nurse. Until the door swung open and revealed two men. The first man was wearing a business suit while the other was only in casual clothes.

"Leave us."Ari heard the man in a business suit. She stared at him then the man in the coffee shop popped in her mind. And she realized that it was the same man.

The nurse and the other man walked out of the room and even closed the door.

A terrible silence enveloped the room as Ari and the man stared at each other.

"Zhou Jian, the owner of Blood Scent."Jian casually introduced himself.

But Ari ignored it, she put her hand on the floor to support herself. Jian walked towards her.

Ari was a bit alarmed when Jian leaned towards her and held her arm with his other hand on her waist.

Jian slowly pulled Ari to stand up then he guided her to sit on the bed. He checked Ari's right leg covered by a bandage. Ari stopped Jian when he was about to put his palm on her leg.

"Why am I here?"Jian straightened his back and looked intently at Ari.

"You're here because I saved you."Ari swallowed the last hope in her heart.

"What happened to my parents? Where are they?"Jian remained silent, he didn't imagine himself that he would be in the same situation but with a different role. He didn't know but it was hard for him to speak the truth.

Ari attempted to be in her feet again but she was thunderstruck when she heard what Jian uttered.

"They died in the accident."Jian had no idea of how he must deliver the news to Ari so he turned out to be unsympathetic and blank.

But Jian thought it's more pleasant than telling to Ari that the police found her parents' body almost burned inside the house.

Ari looked at Jian as if he was lying as if he was punishing her from what she did in the coffee shop as if he was a nightmare.

"I don't believe you."

"I know."

Ari clutched the bed sheet as she darted her eyes at the door.

"Don't force yourself, the accident was over and you cannot do anything about it."Ari bit her lips and she looked at Jian with resentment in her eyes.

"I need to see my parents," she spoke in her low voice. Jian walked towards the wall and leaned on it.

"Your leg is not healed yet and the police are still investigating the accident. I advise you not to show up yourself in the public."Ari glared at Jian.

"Do you think I still have care-"

"The police are figuring out if the fire was an accident or arson. The authorities are investigating the case thoroughly because your grandfather also died in the accident." that was the time, Ari focused her eyes on Jian but she looked away in the end.

"I need to see my parents."

"I know but who knows if someone is also after your life. Don't worry, your parents were taken care of by your relatives."Jian took out his phone and after a few tapped of it, he handed out to Ari.

Ari gripped the cellphone tightly when she watched the live broadcast of her parents and her grandfather's burial.

Jian sensed that Ari needed some time alone so he turned his back and went out from the room.

Ari wasn't sure of what was the cruelest thing happened to her life, was it her parents died tragically or the fact that she was not there in their last moment?

She placed her finger on the screen when the coffins of her parents showed in the live broadcast. How could she believe it when she couldn't even see them, hugged them.

Their last breakfast was still vivid in her mind, her parents' voice and their laughs echoed in her ears.

Tears filled in the corner of her eyes then after a few seconds, she sobbed as she embraced the phone.

"Mom, Dad. Wake me up. Please wake me up."
