Chapter 53 - He Must Be An Ace

"Com…Commander!" A soldier who had been assigned to rearguard duty for Zhan Yi had barely spat out the words when a gun was pointed at his forehead.

Shen Chengfeng gestured towards the weapon on the soldier's body and signaled for him to put it down. "This is merely a drill. I don't wish for there to be casualties."

The soldier cooperated with Shen Chengfeng by obediently placing his weapon on the ground, then sitting down and hiding.

"There has been a sneak attack." Zhan Yi was vigilant and quick to react. They immediately dispersed and spread themselves out.

Shen Chengfeng picked up the assault rifle on the ground and looked at the bullets it contained. They were high-quality simulation bullets, which, when entering the body, would cause a little numbness, or even sharp pain. While contact might hurt like a real gunshot wound, no harm would be caused to the body.

There was a shift in Mo Luo's expression when he heard the gunshot since he hadn't expected the enemy to be behind them. He quickly changed his command and said to his teammates, "Everyone, take cover."

Jiang Xin frowned. "We don't know how many of them there are. Should we continue with our attack, Commander?"

"Are the elites from Zhan Yi not good enough to defeat mere rookies from Steel Eagle?" asked Mo Luo in response, a smirk on his face.

Jiang Xin wanted to say something else but hesitated. What he wanted to say was – What if their opponent wasn't a rookie?

Although Zhan Yi was of a higher ranking than Steel Eagle, they might not necessarily win if they were to go head to head with each other. After all, Shen Chengfeng was known to be the devil incarnate, and could very well annihilate the whole team on his own. It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.

"Commander, one of the teams has been annihilated," said an anxious voice on the other end of the receiver.

The smile on Mo Luo's face froze. "Annihilated?" He repeated.

Jiang Feng silently calculated how long the first team had lasted. It had taken only five minutes for the entire team to be wiped out.

Mo Luo picked up the assault rifle and climbed up a ten-meter tree. He looked at the surrounding woods; the morning sun had filtered in through the canopy and was scattered like stars in the night sky.

"Bang." From deep inside the woods, a gunshot was heard, and hordes of birds flew about.

Xiao Jing caught her breath while hiding behind a tree, and realized that there was an abrasion on the right side of her body, caused by a tree branch. She tightened her grip on the AK assault rifle.

"Looks like we missed out on a kitty. A wild little kitty," The man sounded gleeful, presumably because he believed that his opponent was no match for him.

Xiao Jing held her breath as she heard footsteps approaching her. She was contemplating whether or not to use her body as bait.

"Bang!" After exposing her whereabouts, she pulled the trigger without any hesitation.

Qi Sheng rolled onto his side and used a tree to shield him from the bullet, while he too pulled the trigger.

Xiao Jing already had her rifle ready, as if she had been expecting and waiting for this shot. She observed to determine the direction the bullet came from, before pulling the trigger again.

This time, she fired two consecutive shots. "Bang, bang!"

Qi Sheng did not manage to withdraw his hand in time, so the bullet grazed past his wrist, and he dropped his gun onto the ground. He reflexively reached for it.

"Ka-cha." Xiao Jing threw her dagger, and the sharp blade landed right before the handgun. If she had been one second later, it would have stabbed Qi Sheng in the hand.

Qi Sheng quickly retracted his hand and abandoned the handgun. Behind the tree trunk, he was getting ready to pull out his knife.

Xiao Jing did not take advantage of the favorable situation. She merely shot twice at the tree, before turning around and running off.

Qi Sheng had been waiting quietly for the other party to approach. Usually, in such a situation, the enemy would come after him and inflict a lethal wound.

Gripping tightly onto his knife sheath, he calculated how long it would take for his opponent to reach him.

One second, ten seconds, sixty seconds, two minutes, three minutes…

Beads of sweat were already dripping off Qi Sheng's neck, yet there was still no discernible movement behind him. He was debating whether or not to go check it out.

"Coo, coo, coo," The birds took flight into the air.

Qi Sheng could not wait any longer. Drawing his knife, he ran out from behind the tree.

There he was, thinking he was full of swag, but there was no one behind him when he turned around!

It felt kind of empty as if he had eagerly fired a barrage of shots, only to find out that the party he was shooting at had long disappeared.

Escaped!

His prey, who he was so close to catching, had slipped away just like that!

To think he had ambitious plans of taking out the bunch of ignorant fellows. But his opponent shot twice at him and ran off?

That was not behavior typical of someone from the special forces. Based on the usual practice of the Special Command Unit, they ought to have wiped him out by now.

As expected, the person wasn't a rookie. He must have realized that he was planning on sneaking up from behind.

It turned out that this person was an ace.

Xiao Jing panted breathlessly as she emerged from the grass. She patted herself on the chest, glad that she was a fast runner.

However, she didn't know whether to laugh or cry when she looked at the magazine. It was empty, and those two shots had been blanks.

"Who's that? Show yourself!"

Xiao Jing froze and took a look at the person behind her. Someone was pointing an assault rifle at her skinny body, no expression on their face.

"I'll count to three. Come out on your own," The other party had already trained his gun on the grasses, ready to fire shots as soon as there was movement.

Xiao Jing walked out of the grass with her hands raised, saying, "I surrender."

The man narrowed his eyes and pointed to a spot two meters before him.

"Hands around your head and crouch down."

Xiao Jing crouched on the ground submissively, not making any moves, as she watched the figure approaching herself.

Having seen the military emblem on Xiao Jing's shoulder, the man then asked cautiously, "You're from Steel Eagle?"

Xiao Jing nodded in response. "Let's mind our own business and stick to our respective training."
