Chapter 58 - Categorizing Abilities

One could not say the heavens were unjust or unfair.

Based on the announcement from the Hero Livestream, Awakened Superhumans were categorized into three different types.

The first were energy types, which basically meant traditional Superhuman Abilities. Abilities in this category were as such: phasing through walls, invisibility, or abilities like Xu Zhaoyang's which allowed the gigantification of his body. Even Lin Yu's ability would fall into this category.

The second would be physical types. This category basically meant buffing certain physical attributes or mutations to either specific parts or the entirety of the human body. Xu Zhaoyang's ability would also fall into this category. This was actually a very crude distinction since the human race had not done any in-depth research on the full extent of a human's physique, so this category was quite unclear.

The third were elemental types with the ability to control different elements. This category was not just solely based on controlling fire, ice, or having any magical abilities. This meant abilities that dealt with elements under the full periodic table as well. Any ability that controlled metal would be included in this category as well.

Under normal circumstances, the most unique category amongst all three were peculiar and odd energy types that did not include Superhuman Abilities which made an Awakened Superhuman extremely powerful in combat. Elemental types were abilities that were slightly less peculiar than energy types but their combat prowess were the most explosive and basic. Similarly for physical types, this group's combat prowess and survival instincts were extremely powerful, but this category would be less interesting than the previous two categories under normal circumstances.

Returning to Zhao Xiaolu.

It was alright when a person was already naturally beautiful since she was a slacker and was technically not spoiled or loved by all. However, after she was struck by the 'rejuvenation of spiritual energy', everything changed.

Although the brain buff ability was not categorized as a physical or energy type, the ability was best for inciting conflict since knowledge was power and even a child knew that.

However, even with the existence of Superhuman Abilities, the pillar of modern society was still technology. Only by standing on the shoulders of a giant would a man travel further. This required brainpower to learn and would very much rectify Zhao Xiaolu's 'weakness'.

There was nothing much to say about her electromancy ability, which fell under the energy category. To question which energy group ability was the strongest, it would rile up a discussion based on a person's social background. However, in this technologically governed society, everyone would undoubtedly agree on…electricity!

It was not due to the power of electricity being extremely powerful, but because electricity-related abilities possessed the most perfect life's essence.

The entire human civilization built its foundation on the power of electricity. A simple search on the internet would open up a huge variety of different methods to utilize electricity. There would be unfathomable results of different imaginative projects that could utilize the power of electricity.

Other fire or ice-related abilities could never compare to the power of electricity. This was because these abilities were only basic control over fire and ice. Fire required combusting physical objects and based on science, ice merely decreased the core temperature of something. However, Awakened Superhumans with those abilities could manifest flames and freeze anything out of nothing, so both explanations would contradict each other. Moreover, the only reason they were called fire or ice-based was probably because humans related it to things they already understood. All of that for just a one-sided explanation.

Both Zhao Xiaolu's abilities were pretty top tier and complimented each other well. If this was not a blessing from the heavens, then people with ugly mutation abilities would have to start crying in the washroom.

"It's fine. My Level Up ability isn't bad either. It's only a buff to the human brain. Let's wait till my Academic Genius System gets upgraded by a few more levels."

Conflicted, Lin Yu silently consoled himself. After that, he held back all his anguish as he began watching the livestream.

Zhao Xiaolu was currently in an empty room. Judging from its look, it seemed to be a cleaned-up storage room. A white table was placed in the room, and there were a few angle grinders and other tools piled up around it. She had buried her head on the desk and looked like she was trying to make something. Judging from its appearance, it resembled a long whip.

This was a weapon-making process.

Lin Yu had a brief conversation with her about it two days ago. Her electromancy allowed her to manifest electricity that she could control from thin air as an offensive attack. However, it was exhausting for her to do.

Reality was not a video game so she could not continuously shoot lightning bolts in an instant. The air itself was an excellent resistant of electric currents so in order to shoot lightning bolts, she would first need to pierce through the air and would have to exhaust a huge amount of dark energy to maintain its lethality. Based on her current abilities, she could not do that more than a few times.

After that, it was all pretty smooth sailing. Zhao Xiaolu, who had gradually grown closer to Lin Yu after familiarizing herself with him, had a pretty good conversation with 'academic genius' Lin Yu, who was now clear-headed and had pretty explosive practical skills.

Lin Yu first suggested to her an insane railgun; however, her current electromancy abilities were not powerful enough so she was unable to pull it off. Hence, the insane railgun idea was replaced with an electroconductive whip.

He initially wanted to help her make one but Zhao Xiaolu had refused. She said she wanted to test her craftsmanship as well.

This was an undeniably unfortunate tale. She was rich and even by a whim, her house contained a fully functional workshop with every single tool available.

"The truth is, everyone's still…in their non-serious state. Zhao Xiaolu is already thinking about her issue of combat prowess. Could she possibly be thinking about attempting to accept assignments?"

Lin Yu never commented on her livestream. He merely watched Zhao Xiaolu's stream for a short moment before doing something else.

The assignments from the Hero Livestream platform were already online. However, it was only directed at Awakened Superhumans that passed the combat assessment and regular humans had absolutely no chance. Based on what his father had told him, Zhao Xiaolu did not seem to have many assignments assigned to her. She would occasionally go on patrol to check on the appearance of 2D wormholes. Previously, Lin Hai mentioned the rate of wormhole appearances had grown more frequent but it was on a global scale. Therefore, anything that was left was pretty scarce.

Besides, the assignments on the Hero Livestream were still being observed by plenty of Awakened Superhumans as very few dared to accept these assignments.

This was they were all regular humans before they had become Awakened Superhumans. Moreover, accepting assignments meant they would be facing actual monsters and even with Superhuman Abilities, it would take them a while to overcome the feat psychologically. Besides, the viewers were still pretty curious about these Awakened Superhumans, so competition was still scarce and they were all still pretty relaxed at this stage.

The Related Department, who were behind the whole Hero Livestream, were behaving pretty odd as well and did not rush anyone. Perhaps they had a specific team to deal with these problems and the streamers on the Hero Livestream were just there as a backup force.

This made Lin Yu think that the whole Hero Livestream was set up to prevent Awakened Superhumans from causing any trouble or even using it as a method to motivate these streamers to risk their lives willingly. However, not a single person was willing to make the first move right now as the streamers were all competing to gain more views, completely uninterested in discussing matters about the department.

Using a forced method?

That would obviously be impossible. If that were the case, the SLSH program would have never been set up in the first place. Besides, if they began forcing people right now, they would ruin everything that was already built to this point.

Then the only method left would be…temptation?
