Chapter 20 - Other Family’s Children

"You can make money just from casually making these videos?"

Mother Lin, who laughed merrily, was now completely stunned after hearing what Lin Yu had said; even Lin Jin had a peculiar look on his face.

Lin Yu rolled his eyes after seeing his parents' reactions.

They did not seem to react too drastically after finding out about his 'superhuman abilities'. Somehow, the idea of him making money from his videos was more unbelievable?

"What kind of reaction is that from both of you? Your son is no longer the same as he was in the past. I have more than 100,000 followers, alright."

Unsatisfied, Lin Yu pouted and said, "100 or 200 yuan is considerably little. The last video I made had more than 360,000 views so I made more than 1000 yuan."

If this was him in the past, he would not dare to act so cockily in front of his father. After what had happened yesterday, however, everything became more natural to him—even his speech carried more weight.

Having the ability to make money and become financially independent while still studying in college was something worth being proud of.

"More than 1000 yuan a day?"

"You little rascal, you have more than 100,000 people that love you?"

Both Father and Mother Lin were shocked and seemed to be in disbelief.

"You bet that is! You should know your son better than this."

Lin Yu proudly puffed out his cheek. Although his parents' reactions still seemed slightly 'judgemental', he had succeeded in showing off.

However, Mother Lin's following statement shattered his smug look. She said, "Not bad, you've finally accomplished something. Since you're able to make money now, you won't need allowance anymore, right?"

"Please don't, Mom. My paycheck comes next month and I've spent every penny from this month's paycheck on the gauntlets."

"Hey Old Zhang, your son graduated last year, right? What is he working on now?"

"Sigh, my son is complacent. He's working in a small insurance company and has barely gotten a managerial position."

"Not bad. Unlike my Little Yu who won't focus on his studies and makes online videos. He even tried to talk back at me when I lectured him. He told me he was able to make more than 1000 yuan a day just by making videos."

"Whoa, youngsters these days truly have no restraint on their words. So he's bragging now, is he? Did you scold him though?"

"If only he was bragging. He showed it to me and actually does make more than 1000 yuan a day. He's grown wings now and I can't even discipline him anymore. He wouldn't go outside to even move a bit. Looking at him annoys me, you know."

Everyone was speechless at that statement.

"Aunt Liu, your daughter…"

It was human nature for everyone to be competitive and there was a special competition reserved only for the elderly in Hua Country that was…comparing their children.

Anyone's children who were exceptional in their studies, who had gotten great jobs, or had exceptional partners could be used as gossip material or bragging rights. Due to this unique subject matter, it led to producing a string of 'the other family's children' related topics.

In the past, Lin Yu was never brought up in that manner. However, it now seemed like he had become the subject of 'the other family's children'.

Mother Lin's surprised look morphed into a huge smile after finding out he was capable of making more than 1000 yuan a day so she used one of her rare downtimes to play mahjong with her neighbors at noon. With that, every parent's focus gradually shifted onto Lin Yu.

The truth was his handmade Exo Suit video that made him more than 1000 yuan in a day did not mean he was making more than 1000 yuan every single day. It seemed that Mother Lin had misunderstood that part.

However, Lin Yu did not bother correcting her. It was a good thing to see his parents happy and that would allow them to not work so hard every day.

Nevertheless, he hoped the next time his parents would not only be boasting but to actually be proud of him. At the same time agitate the neighbors and friends they invited by being the main subject of the 'other family's children' as they casually gossiped away.

He believed he would be able to pull it off and it would not be long until he achieved that.

Evening came and the 'Lady Luck's Smile' video had gained more than 40,000 views while the base EXP requirement for the playing cards was only 100 points. Due to Lin Jin's impeccable 'acting skills', the analytics was in good shape considering the EXP points he gained were 108 views for 1 EXP point. With a flash of dim blue light, the upgrade went by smoothly.

___

After Lin Jin received the upgraded gold poker cards, he was ecstatic and beamed with joy.

This was his most favorite gift he had received from his son… It was also his first gift.

His relationship with his son was distant back then because he could not bring himself to be closer to him. As the apple did not fall far from the tree, his son was also reluctant to make the first move.

However, it seemed things were progressing in a good direction and what had happened recently was not as bad as he imagined.

After upgrading the gold poker cards, Lin Jin was told by Lin Yu that the video had gained more than 40,000 views with plenty of comments. He got Lin Yu to download the B site app and gleefully began to watch the fruits of his son's labor.

The deck of cards was named Lady Luck's Smile. It was printed in a printing shop and as usual, only his body was shown in the video without his face.

[What on Earth is this? Poker cards?]

[Uploader, oh how you have fallen. We've been waiting for a few millennia for your videos and you present us with this?]

[The previous Exo Suit video was awesome. How in the world did B site fall into such a deep pit?]

A custom-made deck of poker cards was honestly uninteresting, resulting in a bunch of hateful and whiny comments throughout the first half of the video.

It was only at its midway point when the video shifted to an eerie and dark alley where a man in a suit appeared in front of the camera, his face censored.

The man's head was lowered, making him seem mysterious as he played with three different colored cards in his hand. He shuffled the cards with a single hand.

"Lady Luck is smiling."

The tone of his voice was deep but with a hint of playful teasing before he looked up. Even though his face was censored, the deep, mysterious tone of his voice made it obvious to the viewers that this was a mature middle-aged man.

Swoosh!

When the viewers' interest was focused on knowing the identity of the man, the middle-aged man casually flung his hand to toss the playing cards away from him. The signboards on both sides of the building's alleyway were etched with colorful cards.

Bullseye! Truly spectacular!

However, the middle-aged man did not stop as he presented plenty of different tricks and styles of flying cards, shocking everyone.

[Good lord! What a hack! Is this the uploader?]

[Can't be, I remembered the uploader being much skinnier and his voice sounded much younger.]

[Twisted Fate, the Card Master?]

[666, the uploader is truly outstanding. Not only is he awesome in his crafts, but even his cosplay is also spectacular.]

[Holy sh*t, every single one of em hit the bullseye and could pierce right through. Are these cards actually made out of paper?]

[I feel like I'm attracted to this old card trick uncle. Such an attractive voice. Oh, even the manner he tosses his cards is cool. Oh Uncle, let me carry your child!]

[I am interested in learning that, dear Coach!]

[Coach: Go, leave. How are you interested in basically learning anything? I am also interested in learning that, you know?]
