Chereads / My Super Pet Dragon / Chapter 3 - Pet Dragon

Chapter 3 - Pet Dragon

Yang Tian returned home in a very gloomy state. He did not even eat and just locked himself away in his grandfather's room.

Yang Lin and Wang Hong could tell from his demeanor when he got home that Yang Tian did not get accepted by the Shenwei Military Academy.

Even though they were worried about Yang Tian, they still breathed a sigh of relief.

This was because Yang Tian would not need to face those terrifying Monsters. Yang Lin and Wang Hong were just like most parents who hoped that their children would just live peaceful lives.

Whenever Yang Tian was in a bad mood, he would go to his grandfather's room and rifle through his grandfather's things.

Rumble…

It was unclear what time it was but a loud rumble of thunder could be heard and flashes of lightning could be seen.

As the thunder rumbled, Yang Tian pulled open the drawer in the wardrobe and pulled out a golden egg.

The egg was slightly larger than a goose egg, and its surface was smooth and shiny as though it were made out of gold. However, this egg was not made of gold as it was much lighter than anything of the same size made out of gold.

In his grandfather's diary, this egg was discovered by Yang Tian's grandfather when he was training in the wilds. He secretly brought it home because the egg had the chance to hatch a Baby Monster.

The egg of a Monster, or a newly birthed Monster who had yet to awaken, was an extremely rare and precious thing. These Baby Monsters could be tamed as Pet Monsters.

Pet Monsters were Monsters tamed by humans. They could understand humans and could be the companions in battle of the Warriors. It was comparable to raising the power of a Warrior by one Class. A Warrior with a pet Monster was sure to be the envy of other Warriors. However, this was just like buying a lottery ticket—the chances of hitting the jackpot were close to nil.

After obtaining this golden egg, Yang Tian's grandfather did everything save for burning the egg. However, the egg still did not hatch.

Finally, Yang Tian's grandfather hypothesized that this egg was not fertilized by a sperm which was why it was abandoned in the wilds.

The surface of the golden egg had been rubbed to a shine by Yang Tian and his grandfather's hands. There was almost a layer of gloss around it.

Looking at the thunder and lightning outside, Yang Tian took the golden egg to the window, thinking to close it as the wind was picking up and the rustling of rain could be heard.

Boom!

At that moment, a flash of lightning lit up the sky followed by a crack of thunder.

Yang Tian jumped in fright and nearly dropped the golden egg in his hand.

A gust of wind blew and some rainwater was blown in, falling on Yang Tian's face as well as the golden egg in his hand.

At that moment, Yang Tian felt the golden egg in his hand tremble slightly.

"Hey!" Yang Tian exclaimed in surprise. He forgot about closing the window and placed the egg in front of him.

At that moment, a few droplets of rain fell on the egg, and it trembled again. A strange thing happened. The raindrops were absorbed into the shell of the egg.

This egg needed to absorb rainwater?

Yang Tian's eyes widened, and he thought about what his grandfather recorded in his diary. He recalled that his grandfather had soaked the egg in hot water in an attempt to hatch it, but nothing happened. However, now…

It turned out to be rainwater!

Yang Tian suddenly had a thought, and he excitedly ran out of the room with the egg. He opened the door of the living room and rushed up the stairs to the roof.

The apartment block that Yang Tian and his family lived in had a total of eight floors. It was built more than 20 years ago so it was visibly very old and had no elevator.

Yang Tian rushed up to the roof.

Standing at the doorway to the parapet, Yang Tian placed the egg in the rain.

A while later, perhaps because the golden egg had absorbed enough rain, in the flashes of lightning, Yang Tian could see that the golden egg was trembling constantly. In the pattering of the rain, it was making soft gurgling noises.

Another ten minutes later, a flash of lightning lit up the area and Yang Tian could see that cracks were forming on the surface of the golden egg.

It was coming soon!

Yang Tian grew excited.

He was not afraid of the Monster hatching because a large majority of Monsters would not attack humans on sight as soon as they were born.

A few minutes passed.

Finally, the eggshell broke and a dragon-like creature crawled out, making squeaking noises as it did.

A dragon!

Upon seeing this little dragon, Yang Tian's jaw dropped in shock.

He thought that what might come out of the egg would be a bird or snake; perhaps a crocodile or lizard or some other reptilian. He had not expected that a dragon would come out of the egg!

In the Book of Monsters published by the Warriors, there was definitely no dragon-like Monster! Yang Tian was very sure of it. Even if a few of the Monsters had the word 'dragon' in its name, they had nothing to do with 'dragon' the mythical beast.

However, there was a living breathing dragon that was about 33cm long in front of Yang Tian's eyes!

At that moment, Yang Tian was paralyzed in shock.

Another bolt of lightning streaked across the sky.

Boom!

Another rumble of thunder.

Yang Tian was finally shocked into his senses by the thunder.

At that moment, the little dragon that had just come out of its egg was eating the eggshell. Rapidly, it had eaten every piece of the egg.

"Squeak squeak!" After consuming the eggshell, the little dragon squeaked twice before jumping onto Yang Tian's body. It squirmed into Yang Tian's collar and hung itself along Yang Tian's chest, burying its face into the skin of Yang Tian's chest.

The little dragon was as fast as lightning, and Yang Tian barely reacted throughout the entire time.

Yang Tian carefully pulled at his collar and glanced down at the little fellow. It was a little green dragon. Its entire body was covered in tiny scales, and it had the body of a snake, the head of an ox, the horns of a deer, claws of an eagle… It entirely fitted the description of an Eastern Dragon.

The little dragon's sharp claws were digging into Yang Tian's skin but he did not feel any pain and he was not bleeding. The little dragon was holding itself against Yang Tian's skin, as though it was clinging onto Yang Tian's body.

Yang Tian did not have time to think. He was sure this little dragon would not harm him so he pulled up his collar and turned to head downstairs.

"Eat up! You haven't eaten your dinner!" Yang Tian had just entered his house when his mother spotted him. She smiled as she reminded Yang Tian to eat.

"Mom, I'm not hungry!" Yang Tian said as he rushed into his room.

From out of nowhere, a little dragon was hanging from his chest. It did not matter who it was, they would not think to eat as well!

Looking at her son shut the door, Wang Hong sighed.

Yang Lin walked out of the bathroom at that moment to see his wife sighing. He smiled, "Don't worry about him. Let him mope for a few days and he'll be fine. You know he's been like this since he was a kid."

When he returned to his room and locked the door, Yang Tian took off his T-shirt. He pulled the dragon off of him and held it in his hands.

"Squeak squeak!" The little green dragon made known its displeasure.

Even though it was unhappy with Yang Tian's actions, the little green dragon did not use its claws to scratch at Yang Tian's hands. Instead, it widened its eyes and gazed pitifully at Yang Tian.

Yang Tian studied the little pipsqueak curiously, it was just so wondrous!

The little green dragon began to scurry around the room happily after Yang Tian put it down, occasionally letting out squeaks. If it was not raining so heavily outside, it would be heard by Yang Tian's parents outside.

"Knock knock…"

The sound of knocking could be heard from the door.

Yang Tian immediately got up and opened the door.

Yang Tian's mother was standing at the door, holding a steaming mug in her hand.

"If you don't want to eat, drink some water! You were in the rain just now. Wouldn't want to catch a cold," Wang Hong said as she handed the mug to Yang Tian. She then told Yang Tian that she left some food for him in the fridge for him to warm up and eat when he got hungry.

After closing the door, Yang Tian sat on the bed with the mug in his hands. At that moment, the little green dragon jumped onto Yang Tian's shoulder, opened its mouth, and spat out a white pearl the size of the tip of his pinky finger.

The pearl dropped into the mug in Yang Tian's hands with a plop.

Yang Tian was stunned, and he looked at the little green dragon on his shoulder. He noticed the pipsqueak's expression had turned very depressed, and even its eyes had turned dark.

Looking at the pearl in the mug, it seemed to be dissolving. It was shrinking rapidly while the water in the mug was slowly turning a milky white.

When the water was just about to turn into 'milk', the little green dragon suddenly jumped onto Yang Tian's wrist and reached its head into the mug to pick up the remaining one-third of the pearl in its mouth.

With the pearl in its mouth, the little green dragon regained its original vigor.

"Dragon Pearl!"

Yang Tian said in awe.

"Squeak squeak!" The little green dragon called out, and used two claws to cover its mouth.

Yang Tian suddenly realized what it meant, and drank the water in the mug in one go.

The moment the water entered into his belly, Yang Tian felt as though he had drunk some ginger soup as he felt warm all over. He also felt like he had drunk a lot of alcohol, and his cognitive functions became blurry, and he felt sleepy.

Placing the mug on the bedside table, Yang Tian laid down and fell fast asleep.

It was exactly 9 pm.

Yang Tian's cell phone suddenly rang, and it played a very pleasant chime. The caller ID was "Little Fei".

It was Yang Tian's girlfriend Qin Fei who was calling.

Yang Tian was fast asleep like a log, and he was not woken up by the ringing.

A minute later, the ringing finally stopped.

  1. In Chinese mythology, the dragon's pearl is a symbol of its strength, vitality, and wisdom.
