"There must be some way outta here." Panted Onyx as he struggled to catch his breath.
He had lost count of how many times he died to the monster back there. For now all he could do, and all that he was able to do was run and hide. He had managed to reach the edge of the battlefield, and into the forest. He peeked from cover to see if the beast was still on the prowl. It was not, but that thing always knew where he was. Onyx went through it all in his head. He remembered the boy slit his throat, and then… Images? It got hazy after that. He looked ahead at the forest, and opted to escape. He took one last look at the battlefield, and headed straight into the forest.
Onyx walked carefully as he tried to not make a single sound. Ideally he would have preferred to not leave any tracks behind, but seeing as how he would keep reviving after death there was no point. Onyx walked for a minute, then three, then ten, and suddenly he felt uneasy. It was… Too easy. He looked around then turned his gaze towards the top of the trees. He paid close attention to any noises. There was nothing. The silence was deafening and absolute. Nothing but him and his own thoughts.
Onyx forged ahead as he looked for a way out of the forest. He came upon a small pond, and opted to drink some water. As he neared the edge of the pond he took some water with his hands, and began to drink. He looked at his reflection in the pond.
"Well Onyx… How are you gonna get out of this mess?" He sighed as he looked at his reflection.
As he was about to get another drink of water his own reflection grabbed his hands, and dragged him into the pond. What was a pond that was a few feet deep looked like a bottomless and dark abyss. Onyx felt himself sink deeper and deeper into the bottom. He tried to swim upwards to no avail, he was just too heavy. As Onyx gazed into the bottomless abyss he closed his eyes shut afraid of what might lurk in the dark. He opened his mouth to let the water fill his lungs, and let himself drown but to no avail. He could breathe the water. It was at that moment that he opened his eyes, and saw some kind of creature. The creature itself resembled a human heart covered in eyes.
"What is that?" Onyx thought.
"I… Am." Said a voice in his mind.
"What? You can read my mind?"
"I know many things little legionnaire. I have seen your past, your present, and most importantly… Your future."
"That's impossible."
"Considering all that you have witnessed. Nothing is impossible."
"Then how do I wake up? How do I get out of here? I just wanna get back to the others."
"You'll be free in due time. Though it is not yourself you should be worried about, but those that travel with you."
"What about them?"
"Do you hate Azura for letting you live?"
Onyx did not know how to respond. On the one hand he was grateful, but on the other… He did not like having to carry the memory with him. The harder he tried to suppress it… Some things should not be experienced.
"I don't know." He answered plainly.
"In due time you will. If nothing else little legionnaire know this. That when you and Embry regard one another as lovers. When she holds your life in your hands… Your love shall darken the stars, kingdoms shall shatter, and entire worlds will burn. It will be because of you, and your unquenchable thirst for vengeance that shall see to it."
"Bullshit!"
"Fret not little legionnaire. You will soon meet those that pull your strings. In fact you already have."
"What are you talking about?"
"It no longer matters. I'm sure your paths will cross again."
After that last comment the creature was covered in a blinding light. Onyx closed his eyes as the light enveloped him. Suddenly he found himself on a battlefield once again. Except that this time instead of the grassy fields it was a large floating fortress surrounded by a tundra. From the top of the tallest tower he could see a figure floating above. Onyx saw thousands if not more people, animalists, lizard people, and other beings he did not recognize forming battle lines around the floating fortress.
Suddenly they all stormed the fortress at once. Onyx was forcefully pushed as scores of warriors ran across the battlefield to the fortress. Onyx saw the towers light up and suddenly beams of light scorched the earth, and burned many warriors to death. Onyx crawled away from the battle as more warriors poured in from everywhere. Suddenly he came across a pair of feet. As he gazed up he saw the same lizard that had killed him several times already.
"Agh fuck me." Gasped Onyx.
The lizard growled in response.
"I don't understand you."
The lizard picked him up by the throat, and lifted him off the ground. Onyx did not even try to resist it at this point. It always ended the same anyways. This time it would be no different.
Suddenly a dark shadow blocked the sun. As both of them looked overhead and saw a massive dragon unlike anything he had seen before. Its scales were darker than darkest abyss, and on its head was a white horn that glimmered brighter than any jewel. The beast was hit by the beams of light, but it still flew straight at the fortress. The dragon then tackled the fortress in an attempt to topple it. The fortress came crashing down, but for the one that operated the fortress it was far from over.
The man tore the earth asunder. The earth's bowels opened up, and thousands of warriors fell deep into the bottomless abyss. The lizard growled as it charged at full speed. The man lifted a single finger as the lizard's fist was about to make contact with his face. The man gently tapped its nose, and sent the lizard flying at top speed.
"What the fuck kind of strength is that?" Gasped Onyx in shock.
The dragon roared as it flew over the man, and covered the entire area in flames. The man lifted his palm, and forced the flames into a perfect sphere that resembled the sun. The man then threw the ball at the dragon's belly, and forced it to crash. The man then looked at a terrified Onyx as he tried to scurry away. Onyx was suddenly lifted off the ground. Up and up he went past the clouds and into the atmosphere. Then he fell and he kept falling into the earth. It seemed as he would be falling for hours, days even. The sensation was unlike anything he had ever felt before.
Suddenly he remembered something from his past.
"Say Onyx have you ever wondered what people think as they fall off of buildings and such?" Asked a voice from long ago.
"What's that?" He asked.
"I heard that they think 'So far so good… So far so good.' When they fall until they go SPLAT!"
"Ha! Yeah. But you know it makes sense. It's really all about how you land."
Onyx then saw the ground followed by complete and total darkness.
