The drive to the school was around an hour-long, Uncle began to speak to fill the silence in the car and to explain how life would be on campus. He has a 2 bedroom apartment in the professor's wing where I will stay unless I choose to move into the student dorms. Some of the employees live nearby, but all of the pureblood vampires live on campus. "All the boxes you have sent are already in the room," Uncle said, "I will leave the unpacking to you but let me know if you need any help. I ordered the sophomore uniform for you last week so be sure it fits before you start classes next Monday...." Uncle seemed to be lost in thought as he tried to remember all the adjustments that needed to be made to our lives and all the information he needed to share.
Malcolm took this moment to speak up. "Leaving campus on your own is not allowed, although you aren't a pureblood vampire, you are still a student." His voice was stern, but he sounded more like a boss than a parent. "Many students use online shopping for most of their needs, shipping to the school only takes a week if you buy with Mamazon Prime." The mention of the online shopping giant made me grin a little. 'This school may be filled with vampires on the brink of a mental breakdown but at least they had Mamazon, I wonder if they have Cable or Wnetflix…'
"Malcolm, you don't seem to be a pureblood vampire, would you mind telling me what you are?" I felt imminently uneasy, not knowing if this line of questioning is rude in the vampire society. In my old life, I could safely assume everyone aside from mom and me were normal humans.
Malcolm smiled in an easy-going manner, not appear bothered by the question. Uncle Felix was typing something out on his phone and didn't seem focused on the conversation. "I am a turned vampire," he began "my mother married a vampire when I was in middle school and he offered to turn me after high school." He glanced at me in the rearview mirror again before adding, "My little sister is actually a half-vampire like you." It didn't sound like what he said was shocking news, but it took me by surprise. When I asked my mom if vampires could be made when a vampire bites a human she had laughed and said no. She only elaborated by saying that if a human wanted to be a vampire the process was a lot more complicated, and that turned vampires aren't the same as purebloods.
After I processed what Malcolm said, I asked, "what does it mean to be a turned vampire exactly? I don't have a lot of information on how vampire culture works."
Uncle Felix took this opportunity to show off his teaching skills. He began, "Turned vampires were born human, of course. After the turning process, they are quite similar to half vampires. Their human blood is still partially in their system, preventing them from being as dependant on blood as a pureblood. Their age begins to slow after a few years, and their lifespan is around 150 years, also similar to half vampires…"
