"We've arrived, Emma," a man who seemed to be in his early forties with dark brown hair spoke to the girl sitting by his side on the driver's seat. "Welcome to Calais Ville."
The girl stirred from her slumber. She rubbed her tired eyes and looked outside the truck's window. It had been ten hours since she hitched a ride after leaving the vicinity of the forest. When she saw the bustling town out the truck's window her drowsiness faded away.
"Thank you, Uncle Jack," the girl with reddish brown hair replied with a smile.
She gazed at the town with a sad look on her face. It had been a few hours since she was separated from her parents. She already knew the outcome, but deep inside her heart, she was hoping for a miracle to happen.
"Are you sure you will be fine on your own?" Jack asked with a worried expression. "Traveling alone is dangerous, especially for a little girl like you."
