Chapter 2 - Grimoire

Back in the streets, Kuto and Tatu are walking. It seems to be in the morning since the sun has just risen a bit and then Kuto says something to Tatu again

"Buggy? So you do know magic?"

"What does 'buggy' has to do with magic?"

"So you really don't know...How old are you exactly, if I'm allowed asking?"

"Oh I'm 17 years old"

"17 years old? Do you have got any kind of book with you? I mean a grimoire."

"No, I haven't got one."

``Grimoire? At least in my world, a grimoire is a book used for magic...If I think about it, why am I even able to talk to the people here? The chances that they developed the same language as we are virtually zero. The signs...No, I'm not able to read them. So I'm just able to understand the spoken language. That will be though´´

"That's bad. Normally everyone gets one grimoire around the age of 16. I think I can assume that you also haven't registered yet to participate in the lessons."

"You're right with this."

"Then we have to hurry up. Today is the last day you can register."

Kuto grabs Tatu's wrist and starts running, dragging Tatu with him.

"Wait..."

``How the hell have I got into this?´´

■■■

In front of a big building, many people, around 16 years old, are standing around and talking. In the middle two are running towards them to the entrance, Kuto and Tatu. The people around start mumbling.

"What a guy. Coming this late to register."

"How does this guy dare to come this late."

"I hope he is too late."

``I can hear you...´´

The two don't stop and get into the building and are now standing in front of a desk. The woman standing behind it starts talking to them.

"You are very late. You have about 10 minutes left"

And Kuto answers him.

"Yes he is, but can he register yet?"

"Sure, the isn't up yet. You just have to sign this and give it back in time"

The woman is handing Tatu a piece of paper and a pen.

``If I have to sign this. This must be a contract. But, I still can't read it. However, I am certain that if I don't sign this, nothing good will happen´´

"Mister Kuto, can you say me what I have to write down and maybe also write it? I still feel a bit dizzy, so this would be very helpful"

"Sure, so..."

The Kuto explains to him what he has to fill out and Tatu says the answers.

"My Name: Tatu Halletter - My Age: 17...That's it."

Tatu gets the paper, signs it himself, and hands it over to the women again.

``That was so close. Under one minute is left. I even don't know what I have signed there exactly.´´

The woman takes the paper."

"That was close, but you have registered yourself now."

``Ok, so this is done. I think I should head to a library or something like it to get some books to learn the written language even just a bit...hu?!´´

A Man comes to the entrance from inside the building and everyone around gets quite now and looks at him. The man is clearly important.

``What's going on now?´´

The man starts speaking load so everyone around could hear him.

"First thanks to everyone who signed in at us. But it's not time to relax now. Please enter the Building and follow the signposted way to the training area. There we explain everything about the entrance exam"

Tatu looks to Kuto. At least where es stand because he already left. Now everyone starts going inside. Tatu just gets dragged with them, so many are there.

``Entrance exam?! I can't even read int this world. I haven't even got any idea what's about to happen...calm down and think about what you've got. Here I'm supposed to get a grimoire, and Kuto mentioned lessons and Magic. With an entrance exam, this must be some kind of academia or school...That isn't going to be easy at all.´´

■■■

Everyone arrived at a giant circle-shaped area without a roof. On a podium, the man from before is standing with a book in his hands, which he holds towards everyone and as they gathered around him he starts talking again. He doesn't seem to shout but you can hear him clearly.

"Now since everyone is here, please listens carefully. I know you all are here to get one of these, a Grimoire. But first, you have to pass the exam I now explain."

All the boys and girls look up to him quietly and, at least the most, listen carefully too.

"First, what the exam contains. You all will get into another room with 4 of you in one group and 10 groups will take the exam at the same time. The groups are decided by the time you signed in. Then you get an exercise you have to solve in the group. To not stretch this speech too long I directly go over to the next and last point for now. Based on your results in the exam you will get points from 0 to 100. And based on these points you will get assigned to a class. Oh, and when you go below 50 points. You fail the exam."

``What the hell is this. If I don't get at least 50 points I fail. I haven't got anything in this world. So if I didn't get this, since I already entered, finding something else to get the opportunity of food from...I hope this will end well. At least I will not take this on alone. Remains to hope the others aren't that bad.´´

The crowd starts talking and mumbling. You can feel the pressure in the air. Nonetheless, some stay calm, spread over the crowd. The man on the podium shouts out one final thing.

"Let's start this exam!"
