"Shut, it's okay, I'm here."
The young man reassuringly whispered, embracing the weeping child tightly in his arms.
"You'll be alright. I promise you...We'll be fine."
But the shaking of the small body in his embrace didn't cease, didn't quite down. The abviously tense man could only helplessly press on the wet cloth tightly held over the boy's mouth.
His icy blue eyes slowly moved to the burning world around them.
Anarchy. Everything was nothing but an anarchy.
Beholding the chaotic sight, the man's already pale face turned ashen wight.
The abviously shaken man could do nothing but try calming his bursting breath. He weakly pulled the horrified kid for some hopeless, desperate comfort, "Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that."
The child looked up, confusion and fear and utter discomfort filling his glassy brown eyes , but he did as he was told, pressing his ears to the racing, nearly exploding beats of the young man's heart.
In such a terrifying situation, this was the only thing capable of slightly calming him down. "Doctor..." a sob painfully emerged from the boy's throat, "...are we getting out?" because of how muffled and wheezy the voice sounded, it was hard to distinguish the blurted out question, however, the said doctor stiffly bit his dry lips, seemingly completely aware of the muttered words.
The man understood the spoken phrase, but nothing went past his trembling lips.
The last, slight, shallow Brightness of his deeply focused icy eyes tardily faded away, leaving the shining blues as vacant as a corpse's.
No, he couldn't possibly give up, he had to at least get this child out, surely, there must be a way, something, anything.
Desperation was clear in each burning breath he took.
They were going to die, and there was nothing he could do about.
A child, that hasn't even lived past his tenth birthday was going to die, and he, a doctor, a person responsible for saving lives, for giving comfort, a symbol of hope, of miracles, could only incompetently watch.
Please, if anyone could hear me, if there's actually someone above, please, I beg you, help us, help him.
However, the atrocious reality nakedly displayed around them was an abrupt refusal to any of his prayers.
What was he expecting? everything was decided the minute they got stuck here.
A heavy noise completely crashed his train of forlorn thoughts.
the window behind the two terrorised people had opened, revealing an awfully tense firefighter.
The man was tightly clutching what seemed to be a rope ladder, a thing probably descending from a helicopter, he quickly urged the two to come closer, hoping to end this unexpected nightmare as soon as he possibly could.
The raven haired youth flinched in surprise, and without a second thought, stood up carefully with the crying mess of a child in his arms, prudently approaching the window while doing his best to avoid any of the wild, lingering flames.
Handing him the child, the dazed man listened as the suspended rescuer promised to come back in a few moments, urging him over and over again to wait somewhere close to the window before departing off with the finally secure child safely in his embrace.
unfortunately, the doctor could barely focus on his surroundings any longer, the huge amount of toxic smoke he inhaled dizzied him, completely obstructing him from having a clear perspective on his vicinity.
The man's already hazy view turned even cloudier, the fear, panic, anger, desperation...everything seemed to disappear in a single breath.
