Today I woke up earlier than usual.
The reason for this is simple: the straw I spread to sleep on is now bothering me.
With that, I decided it is time to renovate my house. I cannot live in an improvised place forever.
With the spells I have learned in the past few days, I am confident in creating a comfortable place.
Besides, I have to prepare myself. I don't know if there is winter in this world, but following the principle of the four seasons, I have to be aware of everything.
I want to make something durable; it would be great if I could cut stones to use them like bricks.
Perhaps, if I apply enough pressure with the magic of water, it is possible. I remember that in my previous world, high-pressure water was used to cut the toughest materials. My success will depend on whether I can reproduce that here or not.
With everything planned in my head, I left my house and went to the river to wash myself.
I also need to think about a running water system; I don't want to have to go to the river every time I need to wash. It's not convenient, and if I think about winter... it will be very difficult.
After washing my face with the crystal-clear water, I caught a fish and prepared a meal. I still have the fruits I found yesterday, so today I have a bit more for breakfast.
I also have some tea leaves, but as I still don't have the necessary equipment, I'll ignore them for now.
I lit the fire using magic, cleaned the fish, and put it to roast. Considering my previous way of life, it's already a luxury to have a fish to eat. Even without salt, I am grateful for the meal.
...
Satisfied after savoring the fish and some fruit, it's time to work.
I went to some rocks near the river to test my theory.
It was not easy; I spent half the day practicing.
Sometimes the rock would break with the impact; other times, it lacked the strength to cut through.
It was a real test for me, but with that, I am gaining a deeper understanding of water magic.
I had more failures than I could count, but in the end, I was successful.
Even if I encounter some ferocious animal, I will not be left unprotected. If my magic can cut stones, I don't believe they will be able to withstand it.
I spent the entire morning training and stopped only when my stomach reminded me to eat.
Just like my breakfast, my lunch was simple.
I went to the river again and caught another fish. I also ate a mango and some blackberries.
After finishing my lunch, I went back to work. Now that I can cut the stones, it's time to prepare the materials to make my new home.
I clearly underestimated the work. I spent the rest of the afternoon cutting stones, but the amount is still not enough.
By my calculations, just this task will take another day or two.
...
After two days of the same work, I finally managed to produce the number of bricks I will need.
My plan is to make all the walls of the house out of stone.
Of course, I'm not going to make it huge; it will be just enough for me.
I created a small project in my head: I want to have a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen.
For now, they will only be empty rooms; I still have to try to make the other necessary items.
Still, it will be a big improvement compared to my current home.
...
With everything planned, I started the work. I'm using the place next to the big tree to build my house.
I dug the soil to mark the boundaries of my house. I made a hole using earth magic in the place that will be my bathroom.
But after thinking for a while, I ended up covering it. I won't be able to make the bathroom next to the house, at least not yet.
Since I won't be making the bathroom in the same place, I ended up reducing the foundation's size a bit.
After removing the grass from the site, I used earth magic to create a small trench where the walls would go. This way, when I start building them, at least two bricks will be underground.
Since I don't have cement, I'll be using some clay I found by the river. I softened it enough to make a good adhesive and started laying the bricks.
It was a bit tricky to place them in a straight line. To do it well, I went to the forest and cut down a tree. Using water magic, I turned it into a kind of ruler.
If I didn't have that ruler, the house would definitely come out crooked.
...
It took me about two days to finish the walls, but that was just the beginning of the job.
After the walls were ready, it was time for the roof.
I thought about it for a while. I could have made tiles with dried clay, but it is not convenient.
I ended up using the same method as the bricks. The difference is that now I have to be extremely careful in manufacturing them.
They cannot be too heavy so that they do not end up collapsing at some point.
It was really difficult; it took me half a day of practice just to master the manufacturing method.
Even so, I still think it will be worth it. The durability will be great, and it will also look more beautiful.
The difference between the tiles and the bricks was the thickness. I made the bricks measuring about 50cmx25cmx25cm, but the tiles were much thinner. The length remained 50cm, the width also 25cm, but the thickness was the problem. I had to work to make them uniform, all measuring 5cm.
It was difficult; it was very easy to break them when cutting, but somehow, I succeeded.
...
It took me another day and a half to finish the tiles, but it was gratifying. My control over water magic is now close to perfection.
After having the material for the roof, I still needed wood to support them.
I cut down some trees and processed them to fit.
Since I don't have nails, I had to use a more complete method when making the roof.
Instead of nails, I ended up making small inserts in the wood.
In the end, it was very sturdy. I must say it was a good job.
Although I knew the method, I had never put it into practice.
Somehow, I adapted very well.
It took considerable time to make the roof, but the end result was great.
I won't suffer if winter comes suddenly. At least not inside the house.
...
After all this work, I still lacked something.
It took me some time to make the doors and windows.
I had to do it in the simplest possible way, as I lacked many things.
There were no hinges for the doors and windows, and that made me think for a long time.
While deciding how to make them, I took the time to build a fireplace and also a stove in my new home.
If the cold comes, I will need fire, so this is really necessary.
After the fireplace and stove were finished, I finally had an idea for the doors and windows.
Since I don't have hinges, the doors don't open outward, nor do the windows.
I made them so they open by sliding to the side. I had to rack my brain to finish it.
Well, somehow it worked, and with that, I am not unprotected at night while I sleep.
The floor of the house was also made of stones. I don't want to be stepping directly on the dirt inside the house.
I took the opportunity to make some furniture. Everything is rustic but better than nothing.
Table, chairs, bed, and more.
With magic, I managed to produce some decent furniture. I won't have any visitors anytime soon, but I don't want to become a caveman.
While working on furniture, I also made some utensils.
Cups, plates, and small items. I used wood or stone as materials.
...
I looked for a place far from the house and the river to build the bathroom. As a civilized person, I don't want to have to relieve myself in a hole and bury it.
I dug a trench and covered it with clay. After drying, I made a base above the ground.
The materials were the same as the house. I made walls with bricks and a good roof.
Inside, I made a small base. I didn't forget to leave a hole for use. I made a small wooden cover so that the odor doesn't spread, and that's it.
With a usable bathroom, I feel much more comfortable.
...
After everything was ready, I finally managed to relax.
For someone who is alone, I have the minimum of convenience.
It's not bad. If possible, I want to continue living with the same peace as now.
