The base seemed to be relatively small compared to their hotel from before. With only twenty-twenty five Moonwalkers, we could make quick work of the hideout. But as we took more surveillance, more Moonwalkers kept popping up. By the end of the fourth night watching, we counted more than one-hundred different Moonwalkers.
One hundred was a lot for only two vampires but I was feeling confident with all the training I had done. Diach was a warrior I knew could handle himself against one-hundred. But better to be safe than sorry. We went back to the hotel to make preparations for our raid. Diach made sure his knives were sharpened and polished as I made sure my clothes were ready and I was all geared up.
It was too late already to try and fight a hideout of Moonwalkers so we had to wait until the next night.
When I awoke, Diach was finishing with his tie. My clothes were in pristine condition as I had them dry cleaned when we came to the city this time. My other suit was sitting ready to be picked up. We made our way over to the entrance but had to wait until at leasta few left before charging in. Diach was armed to the teeth but I had nothing more than a chest guard under my suit to keep from being clawed like before. If they did not know it was there, they would not rip through it immediately.
We waited an hour before a small group of eight Moonwalkers left the base. They were not our primary concern but I figured they would come back when they found out their base was being attacked. With only two of us, hopefully the Moonwalkers would not feel the need to call all their soldiers back but I was not sure.
Diach and I jumped to the street silently before getting into a full sprint towards the man hole cover. They would not let us just come in so we had to use force. I jumped as high as I could in a full stride before transforming mid air and coming down on the cover. It exploded from the impact before I fell in. Diach dove right after me.
There were Moonwalkers waiting when we touched down. Without a second thought, I elbowed the closest one to me in the ribs and sent him sprawling across the ground. Diach cut his nearest across the throat from ear to ear.
"Kill them!" One of the Moonwalkers yelled to the others. They all transformed before rushing in at us. As we were in an abandoned sewer tunnel, they could only come two at a time because of space restraints. Fighting one-on-one was no trouble for either of us. It was a war of attrition. Would we get too tired to fight or kill them all first?
The more we worked through, the angrier the leader became. When we started working towards the half way point, different Moonwalkers started coming forward. A lanky, tall Moonwalker stepped towards Diach and a big one towards me. As my Moonwalker threw a claw sideways at me and hit my guard, I slammed into the wall from the force. It dazed me how strong he was. I would not be in a good place if I continued to dodge. Evading was my only choice against it.
The Moonwalker fighting Diach was extremely fast. He threw a combination of claws before finishing it trying to bite Diach. Diach reacted by flipping his knife up, kicking the wolf, and slashing it after catching the knife in his other hand. I regained my bearings after standing back up as the Moonwalker walked towards me.
This time when he threw a claw, I ducked to come up with a dagger hand to his jaw. His face was hard and my claws barely penetrated. The result confused me for just a moment but it was long enough for the Moonwalker to take the opportunity to bite into my shoulder effectively shredding one of my arms.
I yelled out in pain as the Moonwalker waved his head back and forth flailing me around. Diach took a throwing knife from his pant leg and sent it flying into the Moonwalker's back. The attack surprised him as he dropped me to reach for the knife. He was just big enough and it was in the perfect spot that he could not reach it.
My arm was done for. It was extremely lucky Odesza helped me train my kicks for just such an occassion. After I worked my way to my feet, I tripped the Moonwalker and kicked him in the chest sending him sliding across the ground. Without thinking about it, I jumped in the air and came down on his head. I could feel his skull crack from the kick.
Diach was long done with his opponent. He stood no chance against my mentor. The Moonwalkers tried a different strategy with some of them clawing along the wall so they were on our opposite side. Fighting two at a time was little different than one but we had to be serious now. As we worked our way through the last of the wolves, the leader finally stepped forward. His transformation was different than anything I had seen before. He was monstrous in size but still as fast as even their quickest.
When he transformed, he howled and it was ear shattering. The sound echoed in these small halls making the sound even louder. It made me scream in pain and Diach was covering his ears trying to block the sound.
"What is the matter? You cannot take a little sound?" The Moonwalker laughed after he stopped howling. He came around with a wide claw that was too fast to dodge and hit my guard sending me into the wall cracking it. I coughed up blood from the force. The wolf did the same thing to Diach except he was only sent sliding back a few feet.
"Ah, you are a strong one, aren't you?" Diach said rubbing his arms where the Moonwalker hit. The Moonwalker stretched his arms as he walked forward to attack. Diach tossed his knife into the air before spinning and kicking it towards the Moonwalker. It grazed his face but it made him turn to dodge or else it would've lodged itself right in his face.
The distraction was enough for Diach to close the distance and hit him with a solid combo of kicks and claws. They were fighting to a stalemate as I regained my senses. My ears were ringing from slamming into the wall. If there was one thing vampires could not operate without, it was our sense of hearing.
I was still wobbly on my feet when I stood but slowly, I was regaining my balance. For every blow Diach landed, the Moonwalker landed two weaker ones. The Moonwalker could not use his full strength as it would slow down his strikes and even the slightest decrease would be easily counterable for Diach.
Before rejoining the fight, I slid past them to pick up Diach's knife. We got on either side and threw a flurry of strikes at the wolf. He was large and fast but even so, he would not be able to counter us both. The more Diach threw, the stronger his attacks became. I could see welts and bruises under the fur of the Moonwalker as he blocked some of Diach's strikes. I was a secondary thought as Diach was stronger, faster, and more experienced than I was.
Losing interest in being the smaller threat, I kicked the Moonwalker in the back of one leg to make him kneel before kneeing him in the chin. His head bent back but Diach was on the same page as I and jumped onto the Moonwalker's shoulders. With all the force he could muster, he snapped the Moonwalkers neck back and forth.
The wolf's body slumped to the floor before he transformed back into his human form. Diach was rubbing his arms again as we looked at the body.
"He was quite strong, wasn't he? We need to get a sample to take back and have examined. This is a newer breed and one we will have to watch out for. Any of the lower lieutenants or soldiers will not be able to handle them on their own. Skytel, take some of his hair and some skin samples." Diach instructed. When I bent over to do as requested, a sharp pain shot through my ribs making me stand and hold my side.
"Ah, that caught me off guard." I groaned in pain. I was expecting it this time and tried to bend over again but the pain was just too much. My ribs were certainly cracked along with a probable rupture somewhere. Diach had to take the samples before carrying me out on one shoulder. Even walking was sending violent pulses of pain running through my body.
We stopped back at the hotel before making our way to the base. When I woke up the next night, I was in more stable condition but I was still badly injured. Just the thought of having to go to the massage therapist was sending shivers down my spine.
The walk back to the base was a two-night affair as we had to walk extremely slowly. The vampires thought of this and had a makeshift sun protected cover to sleep in out in the woods. If you did not know exactly where it was, you would never notice it.
When we got back to the base, I went straight to the massage area to work out the stiffness. Diach waited for me before taking the samples to the medical wing to get checked. He wanted me to see what happened in case I ever had to bring in something. I was praying I could avoid Kristine as well as Erin. I was not in the condition to deal with either of them.
