Chapter 28 - 28. New shelter

Luckily this time they didn't have problems as side roads were free of any tragedy or cars. And they didn't hit on any hours of zombies so Maria was quite comfortable.

Still, the trip took them two days by car as they had to travel slower as some of the side streets were not driven for years and had holes and deep cracks in them.

As they entered the mountain area they didn't see any sign that could show them life. But in the deep forest, a hidden path was shown and then a simple cave that was huge.

"Zero?" Even Maria was stunned.

"It's inside. Just drive in." Zero sighed as he checked the computer. "But you must go first there. Around six thousand zombies are inside."

Six thousand zombies are not much on one spot. Put some zombies were locked and she had to go down to unlock doors and kill them.

She came out of the car and saw everyone coming out of vehicles. "I'll go first as I need to clean up zombies. Brian, you and Jasek are coming with me. Rest is staying here. I'll call in when everything is ready."

Suddenly a huge sound could be heard as the stone wall moved aside and a big steel gate could be seen.

"Weapons ready!" Maria summoned a huge light ball in front of her.

As soon the iron gate opened, a whole crowd of zombies in soldier uniforms rushed towards them. But they stopped as they saw light and tried to escape.

But the light got over them and turned them into dust, leaving just clothes on the ground.

Maria pointed at informs. "Gather them. We will wash them and use them. Informs are made out of good material that can last for a long time. Let's hurry!"

Before, they didn't gather clothes on zombies as they could get normal clothes in stores. But army gear was different.

As they entered the gate, they realized that this was just the upper part and it was already so big that it had helicopters and army vehicles in it.

They walked towards the huge elevator and people saw them disappearing into a huge holes that opened under their feet on one platform.

Soon the hole closed and everyone curiously walked around.

In the underground, she watched surroundings with a shaky heart. Around a hundred feet under another cave opened up and she could see again hundreds of zombies in special suits waving their hands towards them.

She sent light towards those and just as expected the only a bunch of clothes were left there.

Suddenly Zero spoke to her through the earpiece. "Use your powers to disinfect surroundings and kill all possible viruses. These people here were trying to use viruses against the zombie viruses. Quickly."

Her light suddenly enlarged and made both Brian and Jasek close their eyes. "What is going on?"

"Those fools played God with viruses. Look, the protection glass is broken as probably done if they shot at each other. I fear that bacteria and viruses might escape and endanger us further. As if we don't have bigger problems." She furrowed her eyebrows as they went down. The next opening was clearly a stop to the next level. "What is here?"

Zero answered. "Military personnel food storage, dining place and kitchen."

As they entered, of was huge. "I guess kitchen, storage and dinner."

She gathered again all the light and sent through the whole thing.

The upper and under level were connected only by the elevator so she already disinfected the whole thing in advance.

She neared the storage and saw huge amounts of food. "Let's continue."

Next was office areas where computer worked, training area, shooting range and even huge swimming pool of Olympic size.

Brian smiled. "Nice. This place we can change into playing ground. Or people will get crazy after being stuck underground for a longer time."

"Sure." Maria again disinfected with light and inhaled. "We didn't see most of them up, it seems they are under in the sleeping area."

Indeed, even before arriving at level, they could gear deep growls behind the door.

Maria concentrated and as soon food opened up, zombies tried to hide away from bright light, but we're tightly perched together and fell like dominoes.

Here dormitories had doors so she had to go from door to door and open up. Actually, beds here were not bad. Simple but comfortable and clean.

Suddenly she heard Zero. "This is not all."

She froze and glanced at Brian. " It seems there is more."

"More?"

They entered the platform that slowly went down again and Jasek rose his head. "If those zombies broke through the first line, they would just fall inside and..."

She chuckled. "Even tho I'm not that smart, but even tho they are zombies, if they fall from that height, they will turn into patties."

"What if they fall on the platform?" Jasek was curious.

"We just need to reverse platform and push them back." This time Brian answered.

For while there was no stop and they became silent as the pressure became heavier the lower they went.

Finally, another door opened and Zero spoke. "This is the lower city."

City???

What they saw is something similar. Multiple 'streets' between three-level buildings were build up to the roof of the space. Walking among the streets she sent the light ball to clean up the whole place and after light dimmed they walked around.

It was like a world in the world. Literally a few dozen streets with those buildings. Some buildings had stores and some different kinds of uses.

"Look, there is pottery store, cloth-making store, restaurants, butchery..." Jasek looked at long pathways and recounted what he could see.

Maria looked around and then wondered. "It's impossible to feed so many people from the food in the army quarters."

Suddenly a sound could be heard and they walked towards it. It was a huge wall with a big steel gate, again.

She summoned light and waited, but as the gate opened, there was just a huge space behind.

Zero's voice could be heard. "It's storage..."
