Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"I wonder what happened to Esemae," James said.

Aaron felt rage boiling inside of him. He clenched the scissors in his hands tighter.

"Why did I have to come with this guy." Aaron thought.

"What do you think happened Aaron?" James said with a questioned look on his face.

"I don't know but it must have been traumatic," Aaron said.

"Yeah..."

"Wait, does he like Esemae. Who does this guy think he is. All he knows about her is that she's the student council president. Stupid boy. And I won't forget the day when he and his friends fought me." Aaron thought. "The only reason they fought me was because I was talking to Esemae."

"Alright. I'll take the classrooms on this side and you'll take the classrooms on the other side. Okay, Aaron."

"Okay."

12:50pm:

"Emae, where are you?" Lizzy said drowsily.

I got off the desk and on my knees facing Lizzy.

"I'm right here Lizzy," I said with a smile.

She crawled out from under the desk and stood up. She looked around the classroom.

"Where's my brother?"

"He and Aaron went out to look for some supplies. Don't worry they'll be back soon."

"Alright..."

"Are you hungry?"

"Yeah."

"Alright. Come with me, we have some bags of chips that you can choose from."

"Okay."

1:05pm:

Lizzy finished eating her chips and was sitting on the desk chair. I was sitting at the desk.

*Step Step Step Step Step*

"Shh," I said while standing up off the desk slowly. Lizzy nodded her head while looking worried. I peeked out the window and it was a zombie. I put my index finger over my lips to tell her to be quiet. I opened the door and stepped out quietly. I was behind the zombie.

*Stab*

"Alright. We're fine now but I wonder where the boys are."

I turned around and saw Lizzy in the window looking at me with a terrified look. I opened the door and asked her why she looked so scared.

"B-because I thought you w-would get bitten by one of those d-dead things..." Lizzy said while her eyes started tearing up.

"It's fine." I stood back up and raised my right arm and said "I'll protect you no matter what." I smiled. Lizzy hugged me. She walked back to the desk and sat back down.

1:10pm:

I was sitting on the desk and Lizzy was looking up at the ceiling.

*Click*

I looked at the door quickly. Lizzy jumped up off the chair and stood hiding on my left while looking horrified at the door. It was just the boys.

"We're back, safe and sound!" James and Aaron said.

"Brother!" Lizzy said while running to hug her brother. The boys came back with four full trash bags of supplies.

The two boys were holding two bags each.

"What did you find?" Esemae asked.

"Well, we just found food bars, frozen food, and more office supplies since there was a teacher's lounge there," James said happily.

"Yeah, most of these are office supplies though so we can kill those zombies," Aaron said.

"Okay, that's good. Maybe we can go find some bookbags in the lockers so we can hold these supplies. Also, we should start preparing a backup plan in case we need to leave." Esemae said.

"Okay, that sounds like a good idea," James said smiling.

James had shut the door and set the bags down at the door. Aaron had set the bags he was carrying next to where James had set the other two bags.

1:45pm:

"Alright, I think I found some paper where we can make a plan," Esemae said walking out of the storage closet. She was holding a stack of paper.

"Okay, do you need me to get anything for you, or is that it?" Aaron asked.

"No, it's fine. Unless you want to grab the laptop that's at Mr. Sam's desk." Esemae said.

"Okay, I will," Aaron said with a smile.

Aaron started walking towards the desk to grab the laptop. Aaron turned around to see Esemae sitting next to James and Lizzy. He walked back and handed the laptop back to Esemae.

"Thank You," Esemae said smiling at Aaron.

"Anytime," Aaron said blushing a little.

Esemae opened the laptop. The wifi service was still running.

"Maybe I should check and see if there are any updates on what we should do." Esemae thought.

She clicked on the news icon. It opened up to a live broadcast. She put the subtitles on so the laptop wouldn't make any noise. Aaron, James, and Lizzy started to look at the laptop since Esemae was staring at it. There was a look of horror on Esemae's face while she was watching the broadcast.

"Please, if anyone is out there please get to the town square. There will be military and escorts to help you to shelters. Please, make it, and if you can't find somewhere safe to stay while we look for you." The subtitles showed up as the broadcast lady was speaking.

Esemae looked at Aaron and James.

"Do you think we should go?" Esemae asked.

"It would be a good idea while they are still there," James answered.

"Aaron," Esemae said while looking at him.

"Okay, but we need to go now and make a run for it," Aaron said with a determined tone.

"Okay, We will leave the supplies here so in case we need to come back it will be here," Esemae said while closing the laptop and standing up.

"Let's put it in the storage closet and lock it in case anyone comes here. And let's lock up this classroom so no one can get in." Esemae said.

"Okay!" Both of the boys said at the same time.

They both looked at each other. They all started to put the stuff in the closet and got the key and locked up the storage closet and to lock the classroom. Lizzy was asleep so James was carrying her.

"You ready?" Esemae whispered about to open the classroom door.

Aaron and James had put their thumbs up. Esemae quietly opened up the door and peered into the hallway. She waved her hand in a motion to move forward. They were out of the classroom and in the hallway. Esemae had shut the door quietly and was now locking the door. The door was now locked.

Esemae started walking in the right direction since they agreed to go to the back door. They were all walking quietly. They were practically tiptoeing.

2:50pm:

They had made it to the back entrance without experiencing any zombies. They opened the door quietly and there was a gust of wind. Aaron had quickly stepped in front of Esemae before she could walk out the door. He was looking around. He waved his hand as an okay signal for them to keep going.

The sun was still up and the back entrance was bright. There was concrete and gravel. The back entrance was mostly made up of rocks because the back entrance was where the food got the food imported. They were walking on the concrete to make less noise. The town hall was three blocks from the school.

Aaron looked back at Esemae. He stuck out his hand. Esemae looked at Aaron confused.

"Hold my hand, I want to make sure that you stay and are okay," Aaron whispered.

Esemae held his hand and they all started to walk again. They had seen a zombie but quietly went around it. They had to walk through an open street to get to the town hall fast. The streets had blood smears and there were deserted cars. Esemae squeezed Aarons hand. He looked back at her worried but she kept walking looking straight forward.

*Screams*

They all stopped. Lizzy was still asleep.

"Run," Esemae said in a serious tone while looking at Aaron.

They all had started running and Esemae had let go of Aaron's hand. They had passed a group of zombies. Two of the zombies had started to follow but since the zombies could only walk they outran them. They had run past two blocks and had one to go.

3:40pm:

They were running at the last block and could see the military trucks. The trucks were full.

"Hey!" Esemae yelled.

Aaron and James looked at her. Aaron had put his index finger over his mouth to tell her to be quiet. Esemae started to run towards the trucks. The trucks started to pull off.

"Hey! Wait we're still here!" Esemae yelled worriedly while running.

"Ma'am there's no more room. We must leave." One of the men on the back of the truck yelled.

Esemae was still running. Aaron was running after Esemae. By the time Esemae had made it a few feet where the trucks were gone and speeding off.

Esemae stood and was staring in the directions the trucks were going. She had a blank look on her face. Aaron and James had caught up to Esemae and were now looking at her and where the trucks were speeding off too.

"Esemae..." James said in a gentle tone.

"What a bunch of jerks," Aaron said frustratedly.

Aaron looked over at Esemae.

"Esemae, let's heard back. I see a few zombies over there." Aaron said.

Esemae didn't reply but just kept looking ahead.

"Esemae," Aaron said.

"They left us... They really left us... They saw that we were running to catch up but they still sped off." Esemae said with tears starting to form in her eyes.

"Esemae..." Aaron had said.

James was looking over at Esemae with a sad look.

"Esemae, we need to go they're getting closer," Aaron said aggressively and worried.

Esemae fell to the hard ground on her knees. She could feel the pain of the road on her knees. Tears were streaming down her face.

Aaron went in front of her and crouched down to be on her level.

"Esemae, don't forget we're in this together. All of us. We'll make it. Even if it's at the school." Aaron said empathetically.

The zombie group was getting closer and there were now twelve zombies. Aaron looked over and saw the group. The group was more than ten feet away.

"Esemae, c'mon we need to get back!" James said with a worried look while looking at the zombie horde which was growing.

Aaron looked at Esemae who now had a dead look. Aaron had put Esemae on his right shoulder. Esemae didn't say anything and was silent with the same dead look in her eyes.

Aaron and James started running back towards the school.

4:45pm:

There was a group of more than twenty zombies behind Aaron and James who were still running. The zombies were only a few feet away and they were farther from the school.

"Dude, we need to find somewhere we can hide! Now!" James exclaimed while still running and out of breath.

"Alright, there should be a neighborhood where we can stay," Aaron said.

"It should be on the left after Don street," Aaron said in a loud tone.

They made it to Don street and turned left and saw a neighborhood with a gate that was partially opened. They started to run after and passed the black metal gate and had stopped. Aaron and James ran to close the gate.

"Can you set me down now?" Esemae asked in a monotone voice.

"Okay," Aaron said out of breath.

Aaron had knelt down to help Esemae get off his shoulder. Aaron and James had looked at each other than at the group of zombies about to be at the gate after Esemae had gotten off his shoulder. They turned back to where Esemae was standing and looking at a group of zombies surrounding a house that was now looking at them.

"Oh, fuck." Aaron said while staring at the zombie group by the house that was now starting to head towards them.

'What are we going to do now?" James asked.

"Kill," Esemae said in a dead tone.

Esemae started to have a devious smile on her face while looking straight ahead.
