Chapter 2 - At School In His Pajamas

Jack sprinted out of his room, past his mother and sisters, and into the bathroom. He doused his face with water, but nothing changed. In the mirror, he saw his own health and nametag, but he also saw his mana.

Jack had fallen asleep with his watch on. When he looked down at it, it read the time 7:45. He was going to be late, but he didn't care. He wouldn't be reprimanded as badly as any of the other students because he acted like a teacher's pet and his grades were good.

What he was worried about was the interactable pop-up that appeared in front of him. It read:

Stats:

STR: 6

INT: 29

AGI: 9

LUCK: 1

It was true, Jack's luck was really poor. Whenever he decided to stay up late and play video games, it would be on the one night of the week that his parents would bother to check in on him. His lack of strength and agility were explained by his ineptitude at sports.

But below his stats were "Spells", "Abilities", and "Quests". He pressed the spell button, as he usually played as a mage in RPG's. In that section he could tap either "Heal Spell" or "Fireball". He pressed the "Fireball" and a flame was projected from the screen that was in front of him. It hit the mirror and exploded with enough force to put a hole in the wall.

His family was staring at him through the hole, they were bewildered. This just incited them more. His father put his arm through the hole in an attempt to grab him and his mother was shaking the door, trying to break it down.

Jack was panicking from the constant shouting. His sisters had all gone downstairs to get ready for school, as they too had just realized that it was now 7:45. He pressed the back arrow and pressed "Abilities" which revealed "Tele" and "Power Hit". Being in the situation he was, he pressed "Tele" and selected "School".

Air whooshed around him and he had to close his eyes. When he opened them, he was right outside the main entrance. Around him were stunned students. They were all surprised to see one of the unsociable nerds appear in front of them in his pajamas, which he had changed into after completing the game.

Jack thought that this was better than being at home, so he attended his classes without his books. However, he was prepared for these situations, as he had already memorized all of his books.

The first bell rung as he was by his locker. He went to his first period classroom and took his first period class, Math, specifically pre-claculus. However, this was Jack's most profficient class, so he got bored five minutes in.

Jack's head fell, and he was awake again. Falling asleep was a no-no at his school, so he looked out of the window and at the sun too stimulate his brain with his brightness. The light burned his sleepy eyes, so he looked down while blocking the light with his hand.

When he opened his eyes again, his sleep-deprived brain started to work as soon as he saw the flannel pants on his legs. Jack then realized that he still hadn't checked his quests.

He pulled up the black menu again, and set it down on his desk. No one else could see it, but they did see him tapping his desk. When Jack selected "Quests" and it opened, he saw that he had three quests.

The first two were fairly simple, but the third was not. The first two were, "Ace the upcoming pop quiz in English class" and "Rank 1st in the end of year exams".

The final quest was where things get confusing. "Defeat a boss monster"? What is that supposed to mean? Jack had no idea, but he did know that there was not supposed to be a pop quiz in English today.

Throughout the day, Jack got odd stares, but it was nothing unusual as all of his friends were the nerds, except for Randy. Walking down the hall with Randy to his locker at the end of the day was nothing more for him than an everyday stroll through the hall.

When he got home, he ate dinner with his family, who were all shouting at him and asking questions, except for the youngest, who just got up and left before dinner was over.

After dinner, he lay on his bed, thinking about what had happened today. As he was drifting off to the land of dreams, he heard a crash out on the street. He rushed over to his window and poked his head out to look at the street. In the street were monsters, and a lot of them.
