Enhanced senses were a sought out ability by the various companies. And although it still couldn't surpass force type genes, it was considered to be quite precious in this age of technology.
Unfortunately, strength rules supreme, hence, making them to be ranked below the force type genes in value.
....
'Why is he so energized?' this thought was in Cylius' mind as he looked towards Farold. He could literally see Farold beaming with a smile, with not a trace of exhaustion on his face while the others who had awakened yesterday was almost on the brink of passing out.
Just one night of sleep wasn't enough to make their exhaustion go away, they would probably need at least 5 full days of sleep in order to relieve their exhaustion.
Cylius was no exception, he was both mentally and also physically tired out and was on the brink of falling onto the ground in order to sleep.
However, he still stood straight without faltering a little all because he valued his life.
So, he was able to put that thought to the back of his mind and concentrate on what the dwarf was saying.
What the dwarf was saying was like an announcement for them.
"Divide into 10 groups within 5 minutes or else you will have 10 dead bodies waiting for you!" hearing that announcement, the orphans quickly scurried around like rats and divided into 10 smaller groups in no time at all.
The ratio of the people who had 50% or higher talent in absorbing and the people who had lower than 50% was 1:3.
Not bad, he would say for this ratio.
"Remember my words - Law of Equivalent Exchange!
We are investing all these resources into you so you all better sacrifice your life for the FEDERATION!"
'Law of Equivalent Exchange…" hearing these words, he had a flash of memories pass by his mind. Without this thing, the world wouldn't function as it is right now. It would probably have already collapsed if not for this fact.
It was as the dwarf said. Law of Equivalent Exchange determines everything. Without the balance and the equivalent exchange, nothing could survive or even exist.
The stakes of this exchange could be everything, feelings, emotions, food, places, lives and so on, which, the biggest of them all was karma.
What decided a person's background, family, talent and etc.? People call this factor 'luck'. And how would luck be assigned to everyone? By karma of course; there was no random in this world so luck can't be random.
And how was karma decided then? By the heaven of this world.
Heaven...
An entity that one can't help but feel powerless towards. He too felt powerless all because of that one incident...
In order to accumulate more karma, one would obviously think of doing good for others. Well, this was true.
For the grand of things, the result and ending the world would want, everything was a factor. From tiny droplets to the immeasurably powerful and strong mythical monsters.
So when things function right, and you are able to do your part, which you were destined to, the heavens give out karma. So, doing good for others would give you karma but gaining karma wasn't all about doing good for others.
Well, to be more precise about doing good for others, it was doing good and bad for others. Basically, you have to do a thing that was beneficial for the heavens and would result in its continuation.
It wasn't just killing villains and saving the heroes, one could also accumulate karma by helping the villain because the villain might just become a factor for the good of the world.
For this, the heavens was looking at the long term, the bigger picture rather than the short term.
...
"Now, the ones who have awakened their innate gene, step forward!" along the voice of the dwarf, Cylius did as he told and stepped forward along with twelve other people who had also awakened their innate gene.
"Now, people who have lit up the first stone, walk forward and divide into two groups. Don't even think about faking it because if I caught you, … I had been lacking a specimen or two, hmph!" the dwarf snorted before killing another person.
It had basically become a habit for the dwarf to do so at this point.
"Now, the ones who lit up a stone will divide into two groups while orphans who didn't light up a stone would divide into eight. The people who had an inner gene would all get in the same group"
Even though with all the past tragedies and the dwarf's warning, people would still fake their talent and step forward because they knew how much the difference of treatment can be.
They had learned the difference from their orphanage.
Cylius had spotted a few of these people but he didn't tell the dwarf about it. Well, because he would attract public rage and he didn't want to bet on the slim chance that the dwarf would feel good towards him.
The dwarf already chose his candidate, therefore, it would be less inefficient gathering favor from him.
So after they had divided into ten groups, the dwarf led them towards an area, that looked like it was created for the purpose of testing their aiming.
They were told to pick up their own guns, which, he picked up a handgun among them and quickly familiarized himself with its settings and functions.
He quickly found himself rather like this handgun of him.
Later, just as he expected, there was a sudden chagne in the surroundings once he had picked his gun. Everything became black and he could see nothing but a faint white bait far away. Let's say 200 meters roughly.
Even though he can't see anything but this bait, he could feel a gentle wind current blowing towards his face reminding him that it was all the space ship's doing, to deceive them and also in order for them to have higher accuracy.
Along with his main weapon, which was a kind of mix between a sniper and a handgun, he also got two other sub-weapons.
A handgun and a knife which was given to all of the orphans equally.
So after that, he prepared to take his aiming test.
This feat would be rather easy for him. He could basically block out one eye, and then half-close the other and take one hand to get a bullseye for this bait.
After all, before he got his innate gene, which was towards enhanced senses, he could shoot a bird from 300 meters away. And now, along with his gene, he could shoot even better.
So a result like that, for quite a big bait was expected.
However, …
Why would he do that? That was basically asking for attention and he didn't want too much attention.
Lowering his ability a bit won't hurt and he could still get into a good school nevertheless.
So, he counted. Counted up to seven before pulling the trigger which resulted in a shot a little away from the exact middle, the core of the bait.
Now, he did get the bait and spectacularly at that but if someone were to check the exact middle of this bait, which was a circle that had a diameter of 1 millimeter, he was wrong by a few millimeters.
Well, this performance was enough for him.
But one thing that remained in his mind was -
'This thing could blast a person's head off, fucking powerful'
Yes, just from the recoil, he could've been blown several meters back.
Fortunately, the spaceship didn't let that happen and caught him in time.
…
Next was the combat ability test.
He of course sucked on this one because he was weak. He performed very bad, miserably at that.
Years of lazing around had really put his body at its lowest point.
