Chapter 2 - There is someone else here(?)

I picked up the kar 98, there were four bullets on the chamber, and there were three more on the floor, I picked them up, put two in my right pocket and loaded the Kar with one more bullet, I put the safety on, placed the strap of the Kar on the left side of my chest and slided it on my back to my right side.

I looked for a way up to the roof, maybe that way I could get a look at the terrain. There was a way to the roof, a blocked door to the same side the stairs were. It made me wonder what all these people were hiding from.

Just before I could finish my thought, I realized that there were no corpses, no bad smell, no clothes. Where did all these people go? It was almost like they banished leaving nothing behind… What if whatever they were hiding for was still here? I shivered at the thought.

I reached for the door, it was held closed by two wooden planks, a lock and chains, maybe to the other side in the Ikea they had left any weapon I could use just like this Kar, I'm pretty sure this saw knife won't do.

I walked in the Ikea and looked around… Nothing. Maybe in one of the tents there would be something, I proceeded to the right and checked the first tent, inside was a sleeping bag with a journal to its side, I took it to read later, maybe it would give me some answers to what this planet once was… I found no weapon. I got out after taking the journal without paying much attention to it yet and put it in my backpack.

I checked the next tent, again, another sleeping bag. This one had something different, there was a small device that I didn't pay much attention to, and some tools. They weren't of any use to me. Before I could move to the next tent, I saw it, the perfect tool, standing against the wall was a small axe.

"Perfect!" I exclaimed silently.

I stroke the lock with force… nothing happened--I stroke it again, harder, the lock fell down along with the chains, I proceeded to tear down the plank and opened the door. It was hot outside, the sun was almost setting, it was about five in the afternoon.

I jogged to the edge on the side of the street to take a look around. Directly in front was an empty bank of sand, to its left was a small building followed by four of what seemed to have been apartament buildings, nothing useful. This pretty much looked like it had been a small town. I decided to settle here after I realized how hungry I was. After taking my backpack off, I took out the random sleeping bag I got from Ikea and set it down, then took out the tuna and ate it, I decided I would eat the beans for breakfast. I lay down and stared at the night sky, the sun had just completely set and I could see the stars and what seemed to be three planets, one green, the other was blue, the last one was purple, I was also the one that was the farthest. It didn't seem like it would rain or anything, after all this planet was-- I believe-- It was all desert now. I didn't realize how tired I was from all the moving. I slowly drifted to sleep…

(─‿‿─)

It rained. I woke up in the middle of the night it was like four in the morning-- I don't know, I was tired and confused, I picked everything up and jogged to the other side where I had once found my way up here, I set everything down once I was in the Ikea and changed to my spare set of clothes, which consisted of another pair of the same joggers and another hoodie, this one was white.

you're probably wondering what shoes I'm wearing, I know I forgot to mention that the first time I changed, I was wearing-- and am still wearing, a simple pair of red sneakers-- I know, I know, very surprising am I right?. Just as I finished, I saw a dim glow in the distance.

"A building? And it still has power?" I thought while I finished changing.

I grabbed my stuff, drank half my water.... It still tasted weird-- wait! Water! It's raining! I ran down and searched for anything that could store water, I found a bucket that was surprisingly clean and a few other water bottles that I took from other backpacks like mine and ran back to the roof and placed everything so that it would fill with rain. I'm not sure how long it will be until it rains again…

I set myself to sleep again since there was nothing else I could do, besides, It was too cold to move at night

(─‿‿─) (again)

I woke up due to a ray of sunlight that managed to come through the dirty window where I had laid another sleeping bag in front of.

"Time to move!" I thought as I stood up and stretched.

I felt energized, but before I got going I had to eat something, so, of course I ate my beans, and after I was done I went to check on the containers I left on the rooftop last night. It seems that it had rained a lot....

The bucket was almost filled up to half and the water bottles just a bit below half. I picked up one of the water bottles and sipped. It tasted fresh! Way better than the other water I had been drinking! Which could only mean that there must be some other place that is not just desert, maybe even wildlife!

Perhaps there are also some sort of animals somewhere close by. I picked up the three water bottles along with the bucket and carried them back down with me. I filled all my water bottles fully, using the water I had catched on the bucket, which was just barely enough to fill all three of them.

I packed my water and picked up my things and got ready to do some more exploring, and also because I needed some more food. I went down the stairs to get another pair of spare clothes, and went directly outside.

Today was colder than it was yesterday (yes it was hot yesterday, yes I was wearing a hoodie, it's never too hot outside to wear a hoodie!) Maybe it is going to be winter soon, and I don't want to be in a place like this, I would freeze to death!

I looked around… Just the same as yesterday-- straight ahead was a--

"No, that couldn't be" I thought. "And if it is, then… How?"

Up ahead was a building, it seemed like it had been an office building, the light that could be seen on every window was on-- they got brighter and brighter and then… nothing… whoever-- or whatever had powered the building for those few seconds, had given too much power.

Welp! Now I had somewhere to go! As I started walking on the building's direction, I thought of the fastest way to get there. As I had seen yesterday, up ahead there was a pile of debris that blocked the street. So I had to go around it through a park behind the apartment building, to which the debris belonged to (yes, I know I could just go over it, or maybe around it and keep going down the street. But that wouldn't be interesting!)

As I got closer, there was an opening between the building, so I turned left towards it, the opening went through a kitchen, which was no more than an empty room now. The park on the other hand… It was just a sad sight.

I stopped when I got out of the kitchen. One could only imagine the kids playing on this happy place, that is now reduced to no more than sand and bits of metal that resembled a playground, with dead trees all around…

I kept moving towards the building, it wasn't very far now, but I could only see half of it. As I got closer to it I noticed a slight metallic sound, like someone repeatedly hitting something in the distance. So it was a person!

What if they acted aggressively when I got there? Or maybe they were friendly… I guess I could only find out when I got there. I prepared my rifle just in case I suddenly needed to use it to defend myself.

There was nothing that particularly caught my attention along the way, aside from the sight of a few rooms that used to be habited in the apartment buildings. Like, there was this one which looked really good since the wall that allowed me to see it was perfectly broken, making it look like a big window and the room also looked pretty much like my style, not many things and it was painted a nice color too!

But I can tell you more about me later, for now I have to focus on the task at hand. Once I finally got to the building, I had to walk around it towards the street. I had to go around to find the man entrance, this time that I was closer, there seemed to be the sound of a drill.

I decided to walk in and meet whoever was in the building. I took a step inside-- the drilling stopped, and in the distance I heard a beep. I had been detected.
