Chapter 96 - What’s Irony?

[You have used 'Mastermind's Ultimate' Mass Converter.]

From within in me, chains of white shot out and entered the minds of all the demons.

[Warning: Mass Converter has failed.]

"Ahaha, looks like your little parlour trick has failed you!" Zilma's voice echoed around me.

Crap…

The demons moved inch by inch closer to us. They looked harmless and a bit comical, they were coming at us with objects that's more to do with domestic uses rather than spilling blood.

Lucifer hadn't moved from where he stood. He watched carefully as everyone that his wife holds dear, waiting on deaths door.

I knew Lucifer could take them all out by himself if he wanted to but the look he gave said something different.

{"I know you all resented me for taking your princess away but know this, she had never once thought of abandoning you. She will always be your beloved princess, the same princess you all watched grow up under your care. I won't ask for forgiveness, I love her with all my heart. I stand by my wife."}

Lucifer paused for a moment as he looked down to his wife who was nestled into his neck.

{"And I know you all are too."}

At that moment, all of the demons stopped.

No way… it was like watching 'General and I' and 'Fairyland Lovers' happening right before my eyes.

If Lucifer was Bai Qi and Lilith was Bai PingTing…

The demeanour of all the demons changed, it was an instant shift.

{"Oh Lilly! Thank god you're alive!"} A middle aged women wearing a maid's uniform rushed forward from the crowd straight towards them.

She pulled Lilith away from Lucifer and wrapped her arms around in a big hug.

{"Look at those big puffy eyes. Have you been crying, my dear?"}

{"No…"} Lilith chocked out and shook her head in the maid's embrace like if she was a little girl again.

Suddenly a rather big burly man with tusk jutting out from his mouth and wearing an apron appeared right beside them.

I didn't see him move, how did he…?

The big burly chef placed a hand on Lucifer's shoulder.

{"Young Marlya has been by the princess side since she was born. She even helped delivered her. You know we never resented you or hated you for giving love to our little princess. Actually you were my prime candidate for her if nothing else."}

Lucifer who looked to be a bit absent minded turned his head to the big man.

{"Don't give me that look. You must be thinking that this is the first time we've truly met. In essence, yes though that mostly due to my part. You see, I was there when you were born."}

{"You were?"} Lucifer asked surprised.

{"Of course. Your family had always been close to the royals. Secretly."}

{"How do you know so much about my family?"} Lucifer asked curiously.

{"Hmm… that's probably because your father and I were once close friends. Hence why I was baffled when I found out that your parents abandoned you."}

{"Did my butler told you?"}

{"Old Miyes? Yes. He did. He's a very good man and I knew he was even more stunned than me about what happened."}

{"The man you see here today was because of him."}

{"I bet."} The chef eyed Lucifer for only a split second before adverting them.

{"How do I address you? We started talking naturally like two old friends but I don't even know your name…"}

{"You can just call me Uncle Bosa."}

"Gah! What's going on?! I looked away for only a moment! Ah… no matter…" Zilma sighed before eerie sounds erupted all around us.

On the balconies above us stood a being that didn't resemble a demon or a human. It looked like a monster from a nightmare I once had when I was a child.

Then there was movement from the crowd as I turned my head to them, the demons parted in fear.

Through the crowd walked two more horrific creatures that looked like something from a dark fantasy novel.

The last monster shot out from the level beneath us and left a large hole in its wake.

The creature looked like the other three - nightmare fuel - landed on the pavilion in the middle of the courtyard.

"Ugh… what are those things?" Asked Namise as she slowly began to dry heave.

"Not anything good…" Bal responded barely as he tried his best not to retch.

These four were undoubtedly the four heroes that turned into monsters because of their decision in siding with Zilma.

"I promised you four back then that I will reverse this nightmare of yours, if a time of request from me is accomplished. You will have your lives back. Best of luck heroes. Please do not disappoint."

As soon as Zilma's voice faded, on command, the once four heroes now grotesque creatures made their moves first.

I could barely tell which monster was which hero based on the underlying outline of it's body? The two more feminine looking creatures were obviously the healer and the mage. The creature on the balcony was the healer with her supportive abilities on display. The other feminine looking creature displayed it's magical abilities by conjuring up some pillar walls in an attempt to entrap us.

The healer wailed a horrid noise that sounded like it could've done more damage to everyone rather than adding any real benefits to the situation. That being said, from the looks of it, that wailing might've sped up the creation of the mage's pillar walls.

The bulkier muck of a monster that stood next to the mage was the knight hero I assumed…

The muck monster took out a blade from within its body and held it in front of him.

The last monster however was no where to be seen.

Oh no…

He's the assassin of the group and the fact that he's not within eye sight meant that he already went into hiding and binding it's time.

None of the monsters are marked on the map which concerns me. Either the system couldn't see them or something is blocking the system from seeing.

The wall of pillars that the mage had built had created a blockade to stop us from moving outside of their perimeter.

"What do we do?" Asked Namise nervously.

"Get ready to fight. Don't let your guard down, they have an assassin…"

As soon as I said that, the whole group started to be in high alert.

Did the others not know that there was one more? How? I mean it came from the level below us and had landed on the pavilion.

Lucifer was looking at a particular direction, up. I did the same and looked up to see where he was looking at, it seemed that Lucifer was scanning the castle's rooftops.

The assassin would've been most likely to be hidden there as the rooftops have the best vantage points.

A smirk lightly touched his lips as he bolted upwards to the healer on the balcony.

In one swift movement he pinned the healer down. This caused two things to happen.

The air dropped in temperature as the mage sent a barrage of ice spikes towards us. Bal formed a barrier to protect us.

The second thing that happened was the fact that the assassin revealed his location or rather he left his hidey hole in a burst of outrage.

Loud noises exploded from the balcony as what it seemed to be a heated battle was occurring.

Chunks of the Balcony fell to the ground before everything stopped and a eerie silence filled the air.

A figure jumped down from the balcony.

{"Now that's over…"} Lucifer casually said as if he just had a tea party up there.

As Lucifer sauntered his way back, the other two monsters took action and the mage hurled a large ice ball towards him.

Lilith quickly took action as well and countered it by creating a wall using illusion magic. The ice ball smashed into the wall and shattered into a thousand pieces.

Though the shattered ice the knight charged forward with its sword and swung at Lucifer.

Lucifer held off all of the knight's attacks with ease and barehanded. He caught every slash without getting injured like if he was a master, toying with his little apprentice.

The mage conjured up some fireballs to assist her lover but they were immediately halted by Lilith's powerful illusion magic.

The demon duo held off all of the monsters duo attacks. It was an interesting sight with the juxtaposition. The once heroes turned into monsters fighting against demons that's on the good side. What irony.
