I glanced at the clock once again and frowned.
"It's only been a minute over." I tried to remain composed.
"That's a minute too late!" Faron snapped. "You should've been here at least ten minutes earlier. Talking about being professional."
"Hey! That's uncalled for!" Valah lashed out at Faron and I had to rein her in.
Faron just looked at Valah with a raised eyebrow.
"I didn't know it's bring your child to work day, today. Why did you bring your child with you? You do realise this is an official investigation right?"
"Yes, I know. She's just an observer."
"An observer? Of what? Your arrest? Your punishment?" Faron laughed.
"What do you mean by that?" I narrowed my eyes.
"The king may not have said it but your on the chopping block. Captain Tavish of the King's Guard, this investigation is on you."
"Like I said what do you mean by that?" I gritted my teeth in anger.
"Simple. You've failed the task the king had set for you."
"I've done what was required of me."
"No you haven't and this is what this investigation is all about. My team is here to look into you and find out what happened that night."
"Your team?"
"Yes. Come on out."
The door of the magic association building swung open and out walked three figures. Each had a cowl on, covering their faces.
"These three are from the MagiCore Counter Intelligence. Three of the best investigators in my organisation. On ya left we have Captain of the MagiCore Detectives Lance Holmes."
The person on the left flipped his cowl over and revealed an old man with eyes that's so sharp, his stares are like knife cuts. He has a goatee and a slick looking ponytail.
"In the middle is MagicCore's Finest Telepath, Miss Winters."
{Hello Mr Tavish O'Connor.}
Eh hello?
The person in the middle removed her cowl and revealed one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Pristine white eyes, wavy blue braided hair and thin yet plumpish pink lips. She smiled at me and my heart nearly skipped a beat.
"Dad, stop drooling…" Valah whispered as she nudged me on the side.
This elicit a small giggle from her.
"Arhm!" Faron cleared his throat in the most exaggerated way. "And to our right we have, Mr Altis from the MagiCore's Legal team."
The final person removed his cowl and revealed a symmetrical shaped head, clean cut man with a face crying for a punch. And let's not talk about his clean trimmed bowl hair cut. What the actual fuck? Does this guy want to present himself as a self-Centred prick?
He had a grin on his face that told me everything I needed to know about this guy. Avoid him as much as possible.
"Now then. Mr. Tavish. You will be coming with us for an interrogation session of approximately three hours. We will question you on the topic of your failure to complete the king's order. Any questions?" The pompous prick asked.
Three hours?…
"Can my daughter come in with me?"
"I'm afraid not. She will have to wait outside."
{"Don't worry, my wife will stay with your daughter."} Curlin said.
{"I will keep her safe."} Elise affirmed to what her husband has said.
Thank you.
{Why did you say, 'thank you'?} Miss winters asked.
I looked to Miss Winters and she just stared at me but her face didn't show anything.
"Miss Winters, What's wrong?" Faron asked as he watched her with concern.
"Oh, nothing." Miss Winters said and turned her head to Faron. It seemed like she had said something else to Faron because sweat started to drip from his forehead and his mouth was clamped shut.
"Now, has everyone finished with their nonsense! We're wasting precious time here! I have a pile of cold cases on my desk waiting for my delicate touch…" the detective scowled, turned around and walked back through the door.
"Would you please follow us, my dear." Miss Winters said and followed behind the detective. The prick turned around too but not before he turned his nose up at me.
I just shook my head.
"Don't anger him, Tavish. His good at his job. That's all I have to say."
I turned to Valah and told her to wait outside for me. She nodded and gave me a kiss on the cheek before she walked to a bench and sat down.
"Interesting girl you got there. I would've never pegged you as a fatherly type. You did well, she looks normal."
"Eh is that a praise or an insult?"
"It's up for your interpretation." Faron laughed before gesturing for me to go in. I sighed and walked into the building.
The three MagiCore members waited for us with different expressions. The sharp eyes Detective scowled as he gave me a death glare. Mrs Winters smiled at me when I walked in and the prick just rolled his eyes.
"Come on! Come on! You youngsters always move so slowly." Detective Holmes shook his head.
Click.
I felt my hands clamp together and I looked down. Both of my hands were wearing anti magic bracelets.
"What the…"
"Like I said, you're under investigation. There are no exceptions even if you're a king's guard."
I tested the bracelets and raised an eyebrow.
{"Act natural. I have disabled the anti magic within the bracelets."}
I dropped my hands to my side. Faron reached over and grabbed my weapons and handed them to a female clerk. I rolled my eyes before giving my attention to the three MagiCore members.
"So how do we do this?" I have no idea how the magic association does their investigations. Before I changed my ways, my method of interrogation was torture. Pain will always make someone talk.
"Come with us." The detective said before turning around and walked into a corridor.
{Don't mind Lance, he's just stuck in with his old ways.} Miss Winters smiled as she turned around and followed the old man.
"I hope you thought of what you are going to tell us because one wrong answer and you're in deep shit." The prick sneered at me, then let out a 'hmph' before he turned around and walked behind the other two.
Faron nudged me on my back.
"Come on Tavish. Let's get this done and over with. I haven't had my breakfast yet."
I walked into the corridor and started to familiarise with my surroundings. Faron walked beside me like a guard hulling a prisoner.
We walked through a couple of doors and many passageways before all three MagiCore members stopped in front of a door. I stopped as well and looked the door.
I've never seen a door like this before. It was large and metallic looking, like the steel blade of my sword.
The prick place his hand on an orb on the side of the door and instantly the door opened. I peered inside and all I could see was white. I barely spotted a chair and a table in the middle of all the whiteness.
"Come on in." Said the Detective. "And sit down on that chair over there."
I did as I was told and walked into the room. It was disorienting to look at since everything was one colour, white. I managed to make my way to the chair and sat down.
The three MagicCore members and Faron never came in with me. They stood outside and the door closed in front of them.
What the fuck?
I waited for a voice to tell me what's going on but as time ticked on by, no ones voice ever came. I drummed my fingers on the table as I stared at the white walls of the room.
"For fuck sake! What the fuck is going on! I thought this was an interrogation? You guys say this will only take three hours! I bet right now it's been more than that! My daughter is waiting for me outside!"
Valah is waiting for me and yet these assholes are keeping me in here. Why? Is this some kind of torture, to ware down my senses? I was down to let them do anything they want with me but my daughter is waiting for me.
It was then I finally heard a voice but it was neither the MagiCore members nor Faron.
"You won't be seeing my daughter ever again. I hope you rot in prison."
No fucking way!
"Carma?!"
"That's right and I'm here to take back MY daughter!"
"You fucking bitch! You abandoned her! I raised her all by myself for ten years! She's not your daughter and you're not her mother!"
It was then I heard the door opened and in walked two men. I've never seen them before but they were wearing fancy clothing. Which meant they are aristocrats. One was an older man and the other looked like he's in his twenties.
"Mr Tavish. It's so nice to finally meet you. I'm Valah's stepfather, Morion Tarok, Earl of Vissar. And this is my son Lanson Tarok."
"Stepfather?"
"Yes. Mrs Carma Tarok is my wife!"
"Ha! I'm surprised she haven't left you yet."
"Why would she? I have money and power. And soon my legacy will continue when my children wed and a baby will born."
"Fuck off. I oppose this marriage!"
"I'm afraid you're not in the position to do that! Now tell me, where is she?"
Huh? My heart raced. What happened to Valah?
{"Don't worry about her. You have a smart daughter. She noticed something was wrong and went to investigate. That was when she spotted your ex wife and these two men. My wife told her to run and that I'm here with you. My wife will keep your daughter safe but you need to get out of here."}
Oh thank god. But I don't have my weapons.
{"You do. Here."}
In my hand was my sword. How did you…
{"A novice trick. Looks like Faron doesn't know Dark Elven magic after all because he never suspected a thing."} Curlin snickered.
"Father! He has a weapon!" Lanson shrieked.
"I see it boy," Morion said as he narrowed his eyes before he shouted, "How does he have a weapon! I thought you confiscated his weapons?!"
"Don't worry Mr Tarok. He won't be able to use it." I heard Faron's voice.
It was then magical circles appeared all around me.
"Any last words?"
"Wait!" I heard Carma's voice as she appeared next to the two men. "He still haven't told us where my daughter is. You know where she is, tell us!"
I chuckled and shook my head and then looked at them with a grin.
"I will never tell you where my daughter is." I looked around me, at the magic circles. "And the magic circles? Won't work on me. Curlin!"
