A crowd of aristocrats turned from where they stood as we walked in for a quick second before going back into their conversations. I found that kind of odd but what's odder were the clothing they were wearing. Compared to the clothing my students were wearing especially the girls, it made us stand out more than we were already.
I had a sinking feeling deep down that something was wrong, but my students didn't have that same problem since most of them had already started walking towards the crowd. The feeling had grown as I watched my students mingle but this was their banquet and I wanted them to have fun, so I held that feeling down as I walked towards the sea of people.
As I approached, something interesting happened. My information network skill activated on its own. I was stunned at what I saw; names, profiles, a map of where everyone was, was displayed right in front of me. I swept through the information and was shocked to find that most of these people were not nobles but if fact knights, Guards and Officials. What's even more heart pounding was the fact that on their statues bar said that they were on 'active duty'. It donned on me then that this was a scouting ground.
The voices of the king talking to his guards roared back into my mind about wanting his guards to take one of my students to his son once he had chosen one. My female students clothing made them stand out like a herd of lambs surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves in sheep's clothing.
Since my information network activated, it made me curious of my other skill, master's eyes. So, I pressed it without thinking and within seconds, a massive migraine hits me like if someone had whacked me over the head with a brick. A sharp pain pulsated from my retina and then everyone around me glowed orange, that was everyone that weren't my students as they glowed white.
Once the headache subsided, I truly felt the full awesomeness of this skill. Everyone looked like a specter that glowed a certain color. It felt like I was in a video game... much more than it already was. Since my students glowed white, I found everyone's locations pretty quickly on the map and like a video game I marked all their locations.
With these two spell alone, I felt like a spy in an espionage scene in a James Bond movie. I could be the Aussie James Bond like that one guy who played Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I always wanted to walk up to a barman and say, "Shaken not Stirred." Sadly that had to wait as my eyes picked up a group of guards pretending to be aristocrats eyeing me.
To not arouse suspicion, I went over to where most of my students were gathered... the food table. I chuckled under my breath, food at a party or an event was always my go-to since it gave me a place to stay without being awkward and plus free food. I had never once turned down a free meal and to emphasize that my mouth watered as the smell and sight of a whole rotisserie pig sitting in middle of the table, glowing in a mist of steam like a goddess sent from the heavens beckoning me to come... my stomach growled at me for not moving quicker.
Once I hastily rushed over to the goddess, picked up a knife and began carving pieces of the meat from various places of the pig, mostly targeting the best spots like the belly, cheeks and in between the joints where all the juices are collected. I piled up everything I could fit on my plate and was about to find a place to eat when I heard my name being called. I looked around and found the girls waving at me to come over, I smiled to the girls but looked back at the pile of food and sighed.
The food were seconds away from going into my mouth and it saddens me to leave my goddess behind but the girls wanted me, so I left. My stomach growled at me in anger like I had ripped him away from his lover.
I walked over to the girls who were talking to a group of socialites. I used the master's eyes spell to see if they were guards but luckily, they were just normal , rich... and full of nepotisms.
Lucy gave me an apologetic look as if she noticed 'my want' to head back to eat the food that laid on the table, that's now going colder by the seconds. I smiled at her, telling her to not worry about it.
As I approached the girls, Stella introduced me to the group.
"This is our teacher, Mr. Huang," Stella announced with a proud smile.
"Ryan Huang. Nice to meet you all," I greeted them as I stuck my hand forward for a handshake, but the group only looked at my hand with reservation. I dropped my hand and shrugged but before my hand reached my side, two hands grabbed my hand back towards it's previous position.
A young woman probably the same age as the girls held my hand in hers.
"Sorry for our rudeness, we were a little surprised by your features."
My features? Oh... my ethnicity... I guess that makes sense since this was a different era and other ethnicities were rare, either they were travelers or merchants selling foreign goods and from the looks of it, middle easterners and Mediterranean were more common than those from the eastern side of the world. This world was similar to ours but if our world was still in the middle ages.
From the history books that I read at the library, I knew that Asians were rare and are hardly mentioned. I'm guessing that our kind had secluded ourselves away from the western part of the world. There were only three Asian in my class, me, Sam and Chia-Jung who is an exchange student from Taiwan.
I noticed when the girl held my hand in hers, the socialites in her group scowled and scoffed especially the males in the group.
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean... I mean you have very handsome features. Oh... sugar." Her face grew bright red yet she still hadn't let my hand go yet.
Suddenly screens popped up in front of me, a lot of screens, screens with these socialites profile on them and the very first one was of this lady who was now blushing crimson. From the quick scan of the information in front of me as I tried to not show any weirdness, her name was Racheal Jephisa.
She is the daughter of a high ranked senator who works right here in the castle. She is an only child which meant she is the heiress of her father's fortune and reputation which is why she is here. Though she is a socialite, she doesn't flaunt her wealth or act snobbishly from the modest clothing she wore compared to the others and how she spoked to me.
"Thank you for the compliment though people from back home says that I'm average looking."
"Oh heavens that's so mean." Still not letting go of my hand which was now very clammy but from the way she held my hand, she doesn't seemed to mind. In fact she pulled our hands closer to her chest which shocked everyone.
But, before it had gotten even more awkward, Stella intervened by directing the focus back towards the introductions which made Racheal let out a small squeal as she finally noticed the predicament.
Racheal lets go of my hand slowly which surprised me considering anyone else who was this embarrassed would've dropped my hand in an instant... not only that but she held herself together very well even though she looked like a cherry. She was pleasant and she seemed to act like a normal girl, but I seemed to always forget that a girl as young as she is, is apart of this world.
"Mr. Huang, a pleasure. The name's Ryler. Jackson Ryler. Son to a marquess and owner to the Ryler's Corporation." I checked his info with my eyes and true enough he is the son of a marquess. I nodded to him in acknowledgement before the next pompous noble narcissist addressed himself.
[Warning] {Enemy has detected magic in use. Enemy's target has not been found. Still searching.}
Oh shit! Eh... Turn off... Turn off... How the fuck do you turn off the eyes!
{Enemy detected}
I suddenly looked around and a red glow illuminated around an elderly gentleman about a hundred meters away. His eyes were moving around probably searching for the causer of the magic... me. I had limited time left before he would've locked on to me. Unexpectedly and without warning, information network activated.
A blue flashing circle surrounded the old man with a measurement beside it. The old man was in the middle of the circle and whenever I entered said circle with the measurement saying 0m and flashed red. A radar... I see, so all I needed to do was to not enter the circle's radius and I would never be detected.
So when the circle came closer to me, I would move myself a bit further away from the direction the circle was heading, eyeing the measurement for accuracy all the whilst talking to these assholes without acting oddly. I felt truly like a spy in this moment. A tech skill supporter spy from another world that happens to be a teacher on a quest for revenge... Pretty much summed up what I felt right now. I could write a novel, if I get of this alive...
As I balanced my dancing with the circle/meter by telling them I was dancing to the music and having an intellectual conversation was really hard. I wasn't actually dancing but shifting my position back and forth and I told some half truths since I wasn't going to gain any favors by explaining how the teaching system worked back in my world and how I came to meet my students by being their student teacher who was not qualified to teach anyone.
The girls drove the conversation towards topics I had no idea in, like fashion and such so I took a back seat, when Lucy leaned in closer to me and whispered something that made my stomach fall in love with her.
"Sir, I'm sorry to have gotten you in to this. I know that your hungry and it's not too late to go back to the table. I can see there are still some food there. Why don't you have something to eat and I'll take care of these two whilst your gone."
I mouthed 'thank you' before attempting to slip myself away. I was about to make my escape towards the table but stopped. My head swirled around in alarm as my whole surrounding vision vibrated red.
