The next month was much more relaxed for Lex, compared to the first day. He didn't know if the commander was planning something else or he choose to give up but he and Mars has been really close lately and Lex liked his current situation.
Of course, he and Nikoli has not been talking since the awkward hallway incident. And Nikoli has been really busy lately, since their troops are getting tired from fighting everyday. Even though there was not a lot of casualties, they were all tired but the numbers of zergs kept on increasing.
Lex took this chance to badmouth Nikoli to Mars. He was tempted to spread rumours but decided against it because it was childish.
Of course, he wasn't neglectgent from his work, and Nikoli was considering letting him go to the battlefield rather than being an errand boy.
At the first day of the next month, Lex finally has the chance to show of his sword skills. He was calm and composed for a soldier going to war.
Since they were situated at the edge of the southern border, Lex could hear the screams and screeches of the battle field. The soldier riding with him pats Lex's back lightly. "Be careful out there, our armour may take almost all the damage for the zergs, but the toxins they release are harmful if exposed to it for too long. Don't push yourself, understand?"
Lex nods, eager to be of use. Stuck being an errand boy really made him want to cry. He is an alpha for gods sake! (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ
The zergs were bug like creatures with purple coloured exoskeletons coated with poison. The lower part of their body is their weak spot, but the poison on the top paired with the toxic gas they release made them very dangerous.
Nikoli, who spotted Lex coming out paused, and couldn't help but think that the armour fit him especially well. Truly worthy of becoming my rival. He didn't notice that more and more of his time was actually focused on thinking about Lex, and not Mars.
Lex was amazed. Not because he was sadistic but the whole scene was incredible. Every soldier was giving their all, their weapons shining under the sun, coated with the blood of their enemies. It was like a painting.
Lex grin. He couldn't help but feel fired up. Taking out his blade, he rushed towards the nearest zerg, and before it could react, he sliced it in half. Continuing with his slaughter, he didn't notice the slightest crack on the armour, which was connected to the air purification system the armour comes with.
At noon, he took a quick break and gulp down some nutritional pack, and was about to stand up when a hand pressed him down.
The commander's low voice sounded right beside his ear, and the slight breath made Lex shiver, "You look tired, get some rest and I'll handle the rest."
Lex frowned, it seems like this Nikoli didn't want him to be noticed by Mars, seeing how good his skills are. (︶^︶) He immediately refused, driven by his pride of not letting anyone look down on him.
" Sir, I am absolutely fine and I'm not tired. I can last more than just a few hours. Don't forget, I'm also an alpha sir." Lex stood up and faced the commander.
Even though Lex was shorter than Nikoli, his current aura gave people a sense that they were equals.
Nikoli frown, displeased but could not refute. After all, Alphas can battle these bugs for a whole day before feeling tired. He nods, but still could help worry about his rival, and he had a bad feeling that something would happen to his rival.
Lex returned at about eight, and was received by Mars at the gate. His eyes lit up as soon as he saw Mars, and it felt like all the tiredness dissapeared. His Mars was too cute!
The commander nearby saw this scene was felt angry fro some reason. He glared at Mars and unconsciously released his pheromones to oppress Mars.
Mars was shocked by the oppression, it felt like he was going to be eaten alive! His complexion turned paler, and Lex beside him noticed.
"Mars? Mars are you okay?" Lex held Mars's arm, checking for any abnormalities. Mars smiled delicately, and assured him, "I'm fine I'm fine. I'm just tired."
Lex felt bad that he had made Mars wait for him, and so he decided to treat Mars to a date- uh, meal together. He told Mars and he naturally didn't refuse.
They were talking when Lex felt a chill down his spine. He saw the commander glaring at their clasped hands and felt a sense of accomplishment. Ha! He was jealous that Mars liked him more. Nikoli met his gaze and Lex sticks his tongue out triumphantly.
That made Nikoli pause for a while. How cute, he uncontrollably thought, the image of Lex sticking his tongue out made the cold commander reveal a slight smile.
The soldier beside him, 'Am I crazy? Did I just see the commander smile. And while he was looking at his man being stolen???? What has the world come to?' This soldier starts to doubt life.
