"What do we do now? I think we will die in this freaking deserted place." Victor shouted as the dark around him scared him.
"Calm down! Who would have thought that the fuel would get over so fast?" Jackson was tired from driving continuously for four hours.
"But look around us, it is completely dark. We did not even come across any small town or village so far." The forest trees around them gave a scary feeling that he missed the comforting life he had just yesterday.
If only Tucker was doing ok, then nothing would have gone wrong. Yes, he was not that great but at least he would have everything under control. Now, after hearing what Jeremy said it looked like Gary was also not well. Does that have anything to do with the creatures and Jackson?
He looked at Jackson with fear as he was not sure whether he did the right things by bringing him along with him. Even though he helped him escape from Jeremy's men, he still was uncertain because of his involvement with something unknown.
"Let us just stop here and rest for now. Anyways I am tired and I want to catch some sleep. Maybe during the day, we might see some vehicles around this area. Do not worry, nothing will happen to you" Jackson said while yawning.
He slept for a few minutes but Victor could not sleep at all. He somehow felt something was not right about this place. He climbed down the truck to look around. The night breeze blew on his face and made him dizzy. He looked around with a thumping heart.
The giant bush near the truck gazed upon him like a huge gigantic monster, eyeing him as food. The faraway tree that shook due to the wind flow looked like a giant man rushing towards him to eat him alive. When he saw the bush shake near him, he immediately rushed towards the truck door and hopped in.
He saw Jackson who was sleeping peacefully, then in a few minutes or many be hours, his eyes closed. But before he could drift into a deep sleep, he heard some noise nearby. There were lights around them and also helicopters flying above them.
"Jackson, Jackson, wake up. We got caught! Jackson!"
Before he could finish calling his partner's name once more, he was pulled out and his face hit the tar-road. He felt like his head was smashed on a rock and one side of his face started to burn due to the impact. He thought people around him spoke some foreign language that he did not understand as his ears started to ring.
Jackson on the other end was no better. As he was wearing a military uniform, they thought that he came to attack their country. Both of them were loaded into a truck and brought to the border security facility. They both were dumped into a room that had no windows.
"So what are you doing over here?" one of the officers asked.
Victor's ears were still ringing and could not hear what the officer actually asked.
"We did not intend to cross the borders. We just got lost." Jackson tried to answer calmly.
But that answer made the officer even more doubtful towards them.
"Where is your badge officer?" he asked.
"Officer, we need out for a minute." another officer entered the room and said.
Jackson waited until they both went out and then said to Victor,
"Victor, we need to escape from here right away or else they would not hesitate to hand us over to them if they find out we have stolen the truck and even caused harm to the officers…"
Victor did not respond as it was difficult to concentrate because of the dizziness he was feeling. Jackson saw blood flowing near Victor's ears. He shook him to get his attention.
"Victor, listen to me! We need to escape from here… Do you hear me?"
Victor just shook his head this time but did not reply to anything. Jackson stood up and walked near the door. He twisted the knob and the door opened. He looked around and noticed the cameras in the hallway.
He went back to where Victor was and pulled him up. He then said,
"We are leaving now! We need to change, if we go out like this we will be caught once again in no time. If you understand me, then shake your head"
Victor shook his head once again but the dizziness made it difficult for him to concentrate.
Jackson once again opened the door and checked outside. Once he was sure that the space was clear, he pulled Victor and walked out. Thankfully, no one was around until they reached the basement staircase.
They rushed down the stairs with heavy steps. They pushed open the door and saw a few Janitor uniforms hanging behind the door. Jackson immediately changed out of the dress after handing one to Victor. He even changed his shoes but when he turned back, he saw Victor lying on the floor.
He rushed towards him and with great difficulty changed his clothes. When he was almost done, he heard the door being opened from outside. Jackson collected all the clothes and dumped them into the trash bin on the corner of the room.
"Oh! You are earlier than me. The early bird catches the worm. So how many worms did you catch?"
Jackson stood there stumped near the trash bin. He immediately tied the trash bag and lifted it. Then he
"Did I offend you on the first day? Sorry, I am just trying to be friendly here...So by the way, I am the new recruit. My name is Phil. What about you?" Phil extended his hands to shake hands.
Jackson ignored it and walked towards Victor who was trying to stay awake.
"Looks like our buddy here came to work after one or two pegs! Will he be ok?" Phil asked.
"He will be fine, I am going to send him back to his home. By chance do you have a car with you? Mine just broke down." Jackson tried his luck.
"Yes, man! Just take it… She is my precious, so be careful! When you drop him and come back, just fill the gas to full." Phil threw the car keys to Jackson.
Jackson lifted Victor in one hand while trying to carry the garbage bag in another. Phil came to his help as he was struggling with both. The shoe made the wound in his leg worse and he was sure that it was again bleeding.
"Let me help you, man!" Phil came to take the garbage bag but Jackson took it away.
"No, it is fine! You already helped us by giving your car! Just get back to work!" Jackson said.
"At least let me help you support him. How will you open the door? It requires card access." Phil said.
When they reached the door, Jackson pretended like he was trying to dig out his id card.
"It's ok, Man. Anyways I am near the door, let me" Phil suggested.
Once they were out, Jackson unlocked the car door and looked around. There were officers running around the place. He was sure that it was time to go, so he opened the door and pushed Victor in the back seat. Then he took the garbage bag that he dropped down and dumped it in the front seat. Phil could not understand why he dumped the garbage bag into his car. He got a little irritated but he did not want to lose the friendship he tried to create so far.
"Thanks, Phil! I will make sure to return the car as soon as I can!" Jackson said.
"No problem, man! We are all working together and I am happy that I made two friends on my first day. Oh! By the way do ask him what brand he drinks, as I could not smell anything on him. It must be some special foreign brand!" Phil said.
Once the car disappeared from his view, Phil recalled that he forgot to ask their names. At that time few officers rushed towards him and asked,
"Did you see two guys in uniform nearby?" one of the officers asked
"I saw two guys but they work with me. Is there something wrong?" Phil replied.
"Yes, two armed dangerous men escaped from the interrogation room. Let us know if you ever see them..."
Phil suddenly remembered the garbage bag Jackson threw inside his car. He started to think, as he was now not sure if they were actually his colleagues or not. He even gave his mother's car to them and if these people know that he let them escape, then he would be in big trouble on day one.
Finally, after arguing within himself, he decided to not report about the two men. At least the job would be there for him, even if the car was lost. How could he be so stupid? Why did he not doubt when he noticed that the other guy smelled funny. He just cursed his bad luck and walked inside.
