Chapter 24 - Ura fell down on a room filled with rotten corpses

Ura ran without looking back like a mad woman. She felt like the big eyes of that ferocious beast was following her. She did not stop even when she heard the shouts of others to make her stop. As their eyes were down, they all missed to notice the beast which pulled Zinna up. But Ura saw half of its face or so she thought, it is not any normal animal. Looking at the size, she knows for sure that they would be dead in a few seconds.

All of a sudden she fell down as her leg hit something hard. Her knees got scratched and started to bleed. She got up and when she noticed what caused the fall, she screamed loudly.

"AAAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh," She moved back in all four and sat near the wall while hugging her legs.

Her body shivered in horror looking at the corpse lying around. When she turned her eyes, she saw many lying on the floor and few on the bed. Their bodies were almost decomposed and worms climbed out of them. The rotting smell spread around the place.

Because of fear, she just closed her eyes and hoped that it was all a bad dream. She would just wake up once again in the class room and everything would be alright. Her teeth started to shutter and she sweated a lot. Tears rolled down her closed eyes but she did not make any wailing noise in fear that all these corpses would wake up and eat her alive.

Aaron and Adan ran behind Ura but after she took a turn, they lost her. Upton was left behind as he could not run as fast as them. But when they looked around to find some clues, they heard Ura's scream.

They tried to follow the scream but because of the echo it made them run in a totally different direction. After running around that tumbledown building for a long time, they could not find Ura anywhere.

"Aaron! Adan! Ura! Where are you?" Upton with a shivering voice almost whispered which was not audible even for a person from two feets away.

With shaky legs, he walked towards a room and pushed it open. Inside the room, he saw Ura sitting near a window with closed eyes. The corpses around her looked like she became one among them. At first he wanted to leave that place but when he noticed her tear filled face, his legs automatically moved towards her.

"Ura!"

"..."

"Ura!"

"..."

"Are you still alive? Ura" Upton uttered with fear as he did not want to be in a middle of zombieland.

It doesn't matter if he liked zombie movies but the real scene in front of him wants to run away like a coward. He always criticized how they showed the characters to die easily. He thought if he was put in that situation, he could kill them all in one strike. But reality proved otherwise. Forgetting about hitting one of the corpses lying around, he can't even approach a person who was alive and talking to them a few minutes ago.

When Upton almost reached him, Ura opened her eyes. That made him jerk up and fall on one of the corpses. Because of the force few worms got smashed under the palm of his hands. The slimy feel and the smell from the rotten corpses made him puke. Before the puke could reach Ura's face, she got up and moved away.

Seeing him puke, she held the wall and vomited aggressively. They both finally realised that there would be nothing coming out of their mouth anymore after multiple tries. As if they understood each other, they walked out of the room without saying a word and ignoring the corpses around.

"Here you are! We searched around the whole place for you! We need to go back to rescue Zinna." Aaron said.

"NO! We should not go back. I saw a…a.." Ura was not able to say the word beast and how can she explain something which looked unreal. The eyes looked like it belonged to some giant. Everyone would just laugh at her if she revealed that.

"Ura, I know Zinna had been harsh and spoke few unlikely words but that doesn't justify us to leave her alone. If you do not wish to come with us, then stay here. We will go and bring her. Then we could plan for an escape from here." Aaron said.

"If you wish to go rescue that thing, then that is your business. Do not include me in your plans." Adan muttered.

"Adan, she is not a thing. She is a human being just like us! What about you Upton, do you want to come?" Aaron asked.

"No! I agree with Ura and Adan. We need to first find out a way out of this place. Then we can go search for her. If we bring her along, all she would do is try to stop us and throw her nasty comments at us." Upton refused.

"Ok! Then you guys try to find a way out while I will go back alone and bring Zinna." Aaron turned to leave but Ura held his hand and pulled his back.

"Please do not go," She said in a begging voice and held his hand tight.

"It's ok! I will be back in a minute. You do not have to fear…"

"No! Do not go! I saw a beast pull her up! It was not a normal animal. It was huge" Ura finally revealed the truth.

Aaron pulled his hand away and harshly uttered, "You cannot lie, just because Zinna hurted you with her cruel words. That's very bad, Ura. I never expected that from you."

He walked away stomping his foot on the ground as he was irritated with everyone around him. He could not understand what was wrong with these people? They just can't be so selfish all the time. They all must stay together and try to figure out a way to escape from this horrible, instead they were all fighting and wasting the time. Once Aaron left Adan turned towards Ura and asked,

"Is it true that you saw a beast pull her up?"

"Yes"

"Ok! Then let us go!" Adan moved towards the room which was filled with corpses.

"No! Not that way!" Upton and Ura shouted at the same time to stop Adan from opening that room.

"Why? What's in there?" He opened the room and the next minute he closed it without saying a word.

"Let us go the other way." Adan pointed at the direction from which they came from.

After walking for a few minutes Ura said, "I am thirsty."

"We found a fountain in the middle of this building before. I am not sure if the water is drinkable but we are not left with much of an option now." Adan said.

When they reached the fountain and looked below, it was covered with moss and wrigglers floating on the top. Ura once again felt like puking, so she just shook her head and walked away. They roamed around for a few hours but they could not find the exit.
