The mage of his time, born and raised by the name Kenz么 Moriyama, grew up the first prince of the kingdom of Miriyos. In his late teens, Kenz么 fell in love. He was powerless to resist the desire to be with her. So he proposed to her even while she was the princess born of the kingdom across the island. Her name was Akari Akane of the kingdom of Akrios.
The kingdoms of Akrios and Miriyos were at war and this marriage was decided to be the end of it. Though both sides must agree to the laws written in the treaty. The head commanders argued for weeks on end until eventually they came to an agreement. Then the kings decided on a wedding date.
On the eve of their wedding, Kenz么 asked his fianc茅 what her most desirable wedding present. Of course with his powers as a Loen Mage, he could give her anything in the universe. Her answer. It was strange yet good-willed. She asked for something to give her the power to protect the kingdom they were about to unite. Something she could use to heal diseases, prevent starvation, and heal injuries.
Thus the night before their wedding, Kenz么 successfully granted Akari's wish. However, to protect the world and the object he created; Kenz么 embedded a countermeasure Clause into the fabric of the staff.
The staff was carved beautifully and it's craftsmanship can be out of this world because it was created by magic. The carvings were intricately made to look like strands of living water flowing in different directions about the staff. The individual strands meet in the center where the handle lies.
Bounded by unbreakable magic, the Countermeasure Clause states that the staff is usable for good intentions alone. However, if one attempts to use it for evil purposes, the staff will complete its task. Then the design on the staff will shape shift into a necklace. Once it becomes a necklace it is separated into two pieces. The first is a pocket watch that looks more of a compass then a pocket watch. The second is a plain old chain wore as a necklace.
Once the separation of the design is complete, the staff will transport itself to an area only Kenz么 knew about. Kenz么 foretold a prophecy before his fate came to be. He decided to write it on a scroll. He foretold "Someday, the story will unfold by the craftsmanship of old. With its connection will the chosen discover the path I have taken. Follow and overcome the challenges awaiting. Only then will the chosen acquire the staff imbued with my Loen abilities. When used it has the ability to protect or destroy the world. However, only one can harness the full power of the staff."
Later that same night, upon the stroke on midnight, princess Askari snuck into Kenz么's room. While he was sleeping, Akari, wielding the staff, gave an unlikely command. She told it to make his blood boil so that he would die. But Kenz么 awoke upon the sensation to witness Akari's act of murder and allowed his death to occur. For he knew she was not at fault. By then, Kenz么 understood that he should never have created such a weapon. Then he died and the Countermeasure Clause activated.
The princess having thought she would gain Kenz么's kingdom the following day. When the day of their wedding came, Kenz么's body was discovered by the king. Kenz么's father destroyed his room once he suspected the kingdom of Akrios. He terminated the treaty agree upon by the marriage between Kenz么 and Akari. Then the king of Miriyos announced the coronation of his second son, Eiji. The second prince's coronation was held on the same day of Kenz么's wedding. Afterwards the Kenz么's father sent Akari back to the kingdom of Akrios.
Akari married soon after to her original fianc茅 who she was arranged to marry from birth. Even so, she never forgot the gift she had lost nor did she forget to think, always, of the kindest man she ever met. In correspondence, these kingdoms were separated after this incident and continued fighting and searching for the staff. There has never been a moment since that these kingdoms haven't been at war.
In a room surrounded by bookshelves and a fifteen foot window, a boy lay on his king-sized bed reading the full story of the all-powerful Loen, Kenz么. As he reminisced the 12-year-old boy thought, "This is the story my parents used to read to me when I was younger."
