# Chapter One: The Power Within

Everything was silent. The room was dark. Nobody was at home, as usual. I was in my bedroom, engrossed in playing epic games. In every game, I used my missing brother's name, Demonial, because it's the most powerful name I know: Demonial Zokado.

You see, I'm a shut-in because of a special power I possess. All my friends abandoned me because of it, except one. My brother, my dad, and I were born with a unique genetic trait. Not all of my dad's blood came from his parents; some of it came from a demon. My grandmother was a very smart and powerful woman. She searched for years but could not find the demon blood. One fateful day, she supposedly went missing. Some people said she was crazy and anything could have happened to her. Others said she went to the demon realm. But nobody dared to ask her what truly happened.

She found and drank the demon's blood, which was forbidden by law. But my grandmother was curious and drank it before giving birth to my dad. Through my dad, I inherited this power.

The demon was very famous in our world and was called Demonial, one of the seven demon kings. My big brother was named after him because he was said to have the demon's strength, looks, and intelligence—more so than the rest of us.

Everybody was scared of him, even my mom. Our neighbors started to judge us. One time, they even called the police on us for no reason. When I was eight, my brother was forced to leave because they were too scared of his power. Now, when I think about it, I don't really remember him, but I respected him a lot. Now I am fifteen, living in a world where everyone has some kind of magic, whether learned or inherited.

By the way, my name is Dakrom Zokado, and I attend Irregular Academy. It's a school for people with extraordinary powers beyond the norm. They classify powers as epic, legendary, mythical, and so on. I am classified as Legendary, the best of the best. I was born to excel!

I'm in class 1A, which has only eleven students. We also have stages, and I am at stage eight. My brother was at stage nine, and a demon lord would be stage ten. "What are you doing, Dakrom!" That was my childhood friend, Uzuma Tendo. He's at stage seven because his mom was a demi-angel. Even though I am technically a demon, we do not hate each other.

We've always stuck up for each other. I think he's one of the reasons I didn't end up hurting those who made fun of me. "Hey, pst, listen, class is about to start," says Uzuma. "Hello, class, today we have two transfer students. Their names are, uh..."
