I shifted my standing position and relocated myself several times before seeing Boingo amidst the crowd of students. Keeping my eyes on him, he split up from his parents, most likely saying some sort of farewell to them. From there, Boingo began to make his way towards where we were initially standing the moment we entered the field. I rushed to catch up with him.
"They're still not here?" Boingo looked around, noticing that I was still all alone.
I shook my head. "Still haven't arrived, no." I gulped. "I hope they didn't get lost in this huge crowd. But then again, some people are going back into the school. And I was able to pick you out from everyone else, too."
Boingo lowered his head in contemplation. With his mouth towards the ground, he began to speak in a more hushed tone. "What if we asked Midnight to tell us if they've arrived? Then... Then we can go back into the school and do other things."
Shrugging, I figured that there was no other choice but to comply. After all, it was far better than waiting for them to show up for numerous hours. "I suppose."
Reentering the school, I led Boingo to the stairs I previously took to get to Midnight's office. Noticing the vast difference in the concentration of students, I halted and started to second-guess myself; did I have permission to go back up there once more? My mouth descended into a frown and I saw that Boingo was sharing almost the same thought process as I was.
"I don't know... Maybe we can find him elsewhere. I pass by him sometimes just in the hallway."
With that, I made my final decision; we both started to turn around when I nearly leapt backwards in surprise. In front of us was our principal no more than a meter away from where we stood. He greeted us with a simple "hello."
"Hello..." I stammered, my heart still recovering from the sudden scare. "Did you really have to do that?"
"Not really," Midnight admitted, his eyes drifting away from our own. "But I figured that I would at least show up as soon as I could."
Boingo was the one to talk about my situation. "Sir, Feste... His parents haven't come yet. Can you tell us when they do?" He gave an awkward smile, one that revealed this was the first time the small creature conversed with our principal.
"Sure!' Midnight looked towards me. "In fact, I just checked them not too long ago. They're not exactly ready to come to the school, but they should come sometime today."
We both nodded understandingly and bode our farewells to Midnight. Turning away from him, I noticed pain building up deep in my insides. With a shock, I realized that it was the same discomfort that I felt whenever my principal drilled further into my labyrinth while I was asleep. Looking backward, it was revealed that he had already vanished without a detectable trace. I shook my head and rushed to catch up to Boingo, who was now almost completely down the flight of stairs and halfway blended into the crowd. Not wasting any time, I rushed to catch up to him, but the alien was barely in my vision at all times, no matter how hard I attempted to catch up to him.
