"... I am also one of you." The nurse told her journey and insisted that they were related. "Well, actually, it's a we since I also have a child. I don't know who's the father since I did a lot of 'woo-hoo' back when I was in a nursing student exchange in Paris."
In confusion, Remus confusingly looked at her. "What do you mean? And- what's a Homo peculiari?" He asked.
The nurse grabbed a book on the food tray, hidden in the blankets. Remus looks at the book, entitled 'Human Evolution' by Gutierrez. She finds a page, and while she does, she speaks. "We are the next generation of humans, following Homo sapiens." She stops at a certain page, then reads a paragraph. "Human evolution is the lengthy process of change by which people originated from apelike ancestors. Scientific evidence shows that the physical and behavioral traits shared by all people originated from apelike ancestors and evolved over approximately six million years..." She stops, turning pages again and stops. "Well, over time, humans evolve, and enhance abilities. And here we are, Peculiars, with special abilities."
Still unclear, Remus looks again confusingly at her, "So, there are people with like... mind control, elemental bending, and all we see at fantasy movies?"
As she hears this, she would laugh. She explains, "Dear, no. I don't think elemental bending would be possible as of today, maybe after this first generation of Peculiars. Enhanced senses, just like mine, I have an enhanced hearing ability. While my daughter, Rachel, could project sound waves. Now let's find out yours. What has been happening to your life lately?" She asked.
"Well, I..." He would recall the days he was called to the Principal's Office just because of tapping his table when suddenly, it broke. "I always get scolded by mom because of my recklessness. Oh my God, mom! She must have been worried for me."
The nurse stopped for a second, then looks at him in excitement. She would babble, "Wait, your mom might be one of us too, and your father! Bring me with you."
Remus would refuse, "No, I am adopted."
"Oh." She mumbles, looking down. She looks again up at him as if she realized something. "We have to go to your parents, and tell them. They deserve to know."
"Alright, let's go."
"We have to go out fast. I erased your data here." She helped him get up, then she stopped as she realizes she forgot to introduce herself. "By the way, my name's Alessandra. Call me Sandra." She was 32 years old, while her daughter was 13. Remus was 18.
They went out of the hospital without any interruptions. It was nighttime already. Sandra called her daughter to pick them up. They sat on the bench outside while waiting for their pickup. After talking through the phone, Remus intervened. "How did you find out about me?"
She answered, "Mother talked to me."
"I'm sorry, who?" Without replying, Sandra stands up alerted.
"What is it?" Remus asked. He would stand up as well, looking at her, weirded by how she moves her head.
"Someone's talking about you. Shh. Your footsteps are so annoying." She asked Remus to stay put. She stayed silent to concentrate. Her eyes widened in shock. She brought out her phone, then typed something. As she finished typing, she showed him what she typed, saying, 'They put a microchip inside you that could track and hear what we say. They possibly heard everything earlier, so they know about us now.' She realized something. She was in shock and fear. "My daughter."
They both walked away silently, but Sandra felt they were followed, so they walked faster.
Two men blocked their way. They were big enough to squish the both of them. Like his real mom, Sandra would go in front of Remus to protect him. "Leave us alone."
"Dr. Rod wants to talk to both of you." One of them said.
Sandra insists, "No."
One of them brought out a pistol and aimed it at her. She was terrified, but she chose to protect the boy at her back. Four more men came out, circling at them.
Remus felt the urge to move as if he was electrocuted that woke him up. He dashed to the man holding the pistol, swinging his hand away from Sandra.
"Remus!" Sandra screamed.
Remus would perform an axe kick at the man's hand, making him lose his grip at the gun. The gun slides to Sandra's, grabbing it in an instance.
This happened very fast, not noticed by all of the six around them until the gun fell.
"What--" The man snapped. But Remus was outnumbered, he was cornered.
Two of them grabbed him side by side, then pushing him to fall. He was slammed by the ground.
"Remus-- leave him alone!" Sandra had been grabbed by the wrist as well.
"Bring them to the van." One of them commanded.
But before they arrived at the van, they all flinched and held their earpiece. They would fall on to the ground, screeching in pain.
"What's happening?" Remus would ask in confusion.
"Rachel, stop!" Sandra screams, and the screeching would stop as well.
A car would come out, with a girl in a hoodie driving. Rachel.
"Finally." Sandra sighed in relief, and looked at Remus. "By the way," Remus would look back, and Sandra raises the gun, flattened. "You are very strong."
"Woah." In shock, he would mumble. "I am strong."
