Chapter 5 - Hunter?!

I glared at him and said one word:

"No."

He cocked his head to the side, looking slightly taken aback. "No?" He questioned me, daringly putting his face closer. I was betting that people rarely told him no, considering how dangerous he was and how stunningly gorgeous he was. He was basically irresistible. Argh!! There I go again saying he's attractive. I need to stop that, my life could be in danger right now, but my brain refused to let that hinder it's thoughts. My heart getting the message, thumping loudly and unevenly in my chest.

He put his face so close to mine that his warm cheek was touching mine as he leaned further down, his lips lightly brushing my ear, whispering, "Nobody tells me no, babygirl. I don't want to hear that come out of your mouth again tonight. You got me?" I shuddered from the feeling that was threatening to overwhelm me. He pulled his head back up, smirking at me, DARING me to tell him no.

I glared at him, refusing to back down. "N. O. Come on, say that with me, what does that spell?" Now it was my turn to smirk at him.

"No. What makes you think I'd do anything with or for someone that I don't even know, much less their name." I was getting close to kneeing him in the balls, but his next works made my whole body slacken.

"Alright, sweet cheeks, I'll tell you who I am. My name is Hunter Stonewald, but I don't need your name because I've got plenty of names for you." His eyes roaming over my face, lingering on my lips. "You'll need my name for when your screaming it later, if you get my drift." His smirk becoming more prominent.

My eyes widened, for more then one reason. Jerking my head out of his grip, narrowly missing banging my head against the wall behind me. I shoved him off of me while exclaiming "YOU'RE HUNTER?!?!?" He stumbled back, caught off guard. He looked at me strange, probably not expecting me to have that much strength in my small frame.

He looked bewildered. "Yes? I just told you that didn't I?" Now he was backing up from me like I was some deranged stalker who knew his name and plotted this whole thing. He was looking at me like I was the danger here. How ironic. Hesitantly, I asked him if he could possibly be the older brother of Mindy.

He stopped in his tracks. He took a closer look at me. He was mumbling to himself now, looking down at the floor, rubbing his smooth chin. He looked cute like that. No!! I couldn't be thinking like that of my new friends' brother. Plus, he was 23! I'm only 18, even though that is the legal age...  Where the hell were all these crazy thoughts coming from??

"You know Mindy?" His voice snapped me out of my thoughts. His voice was too attractive to ignore. Why did he have to be like that? How could I seriously be THAT attracted to someone I haven't even ever met before? I've met plenty of cute guys at school, what the hell made Hunter so irresistible to me? "Hey, snap out of it. I asked, you know Mindy?"

I stared at him, "Yes, I know Mindy. Your sister referred to you as a 'squish ball' just earlier today." I cracked a small smile at the recent memory, while he rolled his eyes scoffing. "I just met her today after detention." He looked at me incredulously when I told him I was in detention. He looked at me from head to toe repeatedly. I was starting to squirm under his intense gaze, his eyes getting hooded the longer he looked. He shook his head and his voice came out rough.

"You certainly don't seem like the type to get into detention, especially not on the first day. My sister I can understand, she's always getting in trouble, my mom's given up on her." He chuckled lightly, shaking his head at his sister. I cocked my head to the side, liking the way he laughed. It was a deep rumble, and his smile was nice. He caught me staring at him and his face immediately dropped into that unfriendly one I first met him with.

I rolled my eyes at him and his tough demeanor. I wasn't buying it. Well, actually, I was. The dude was scary, but I saw his smile, and he didn't seem so bad anymore. "I don't get in detention. This was my first ever detention because of my stupid, idiotic, twin best friends. God, I'm gonna murder them." I shot a glare at the floor, my hands tightening into fists. They ruined my perfect record.

I took a deep breath and blew it out slowly. I looked back up at him and he was standing there, arms folded, regarding me as if I was a scientific experiment that had escaped the lab.

"What are you looking at?" He glanced off to the side. I hadn't meant for my voice to come out so harsh. He mumbled under his breath. "What?"

"Nothing! I gotta go." And with that, he disappeared out of the alley. What the hell? I forgot the bags on the floor and dashed out and looked for him. He had completely vanished into thin air. Not that I could see anything in the first place, it was now pitch dark out. Shit! The groceries! I was supposed to be back home a long time ago! I whipped out my phone and saw numerous missed calls and texts from my mom. Oh no. The entire world had disappeared from right under my nose when I was with Hunter. This was bad. I had to stay away from him and hope I never ran into him again. The next time, I would take the extra minutes and walk home the other way.

I quickly called my mom, searching for an excuse while I walked back into the alley and grabbed the bags. As I scooped them up, I heard a groan and froze. I completely forgot all about the guy Hunter had beat close to death. I turned in his direction and wondered if I should go see if he needed help.

"Hello? Daisy? Is that you? Why didn't you pick up? Is everything alright? Are you okay?"

My eyes still locked on the figure, I answered my mom. "Mom, I'm fine. I'm sorry, my phone was dead and it's charging here at the store. It took me a while to find some of the items, they switched up some of the places that they put things. I was gonna call earlier but I found my phone was dead and asked one of the cashiers to let it charge at the station. I had all the items and I am about to leave. I'll see you in five minutes or so, okay?"

I heard a sigh of relief from the other end. "Okay honey. I'm just so glad nothing had happened. I was close to calling the cops, you know. And okay, be safe honey, it's really dark out. Use your phone as a flashlight! See you soon, love you, bye!" And with that, she hung up. Man, she never gives me enough time to tell her I love her back. It's okay though because she knows I do.

I was still standing there, when a light rasping voice croaked out. "H-h-help m-me-e p-p-please." I nearly jumped out of my skin. Oh my god. Could I just run away at this point? No, that would be wrong. For the second time that night, I dropped the bags down onto the alley way floor, being mindful of the carton of eggs in one of the bags, and started to edge my way to the unknown guy.

"What do you need help with? What happened? Why did this happen?" I knew I shouldn't be bombarding him with questions, but I was just so curious.

"I-I-I j-just n-n-need h-help p-please." I nodded my head and asked what he needed help with. "M-my f-f-face." Tearing off some of his shirt, I wiped his face, being mindful of his injuries. Regardless, he hissed in pain while I cringed. I thought I would explode from curiosity, questions in my brain firing off from all different directions, my school day long forgotten because of the events that had just played out in front of me tonight. I made sure not to voice any of my questions, even if this guy was injured, I didn't know what he was capable of. I just needed to help him and get out of here as fast as I can.

"I don't know what else to do, I'm sorry. Is there anything else I can do?" He nodded his head and held out his hand, which trembled from injury.

"H-help me up." I lightly grabbed his hand, and curled my other hand around his elbow for extra support and heaved him up slowly. I noticed his stuttering from pain was getting better, slowly decreasing.

A ringtone rang out, but it wasn't mine. I looked at the guy expectedly. He groped around in the dark, and an object skidded across the floor and bumped my foot. I picked up his ringing phone and handed it to the guy. He looked at the screen, his eyes widening a fraction.

"Boss." His voice came out strange. Stronger then I knew it was. Who was this boss and why was he putting an act up with his voice?

I couldn't make anything out from the other end except the guys name, Kaleb, and snippets of words. One being Hunters name. What the hell did I just get myself into. I heard the guy give out the location of where he was and then snapped his phone shut.

He turned to me, a look of urgency in his eyes. He turned me around by my shoulders and started pushing me out of the alley.

"You need to go! You need to get out of here before boss's men come!"

"But my groceries! They're still back in the alley!"

He shouted at me to stay there as he rushed back into the alley. He returned seconds later, shoving the bags into my arms, yelling at me to go. I turned around and fled away. I ran like my life depended on it, and with a shiver of fear, I realized that it probably was.

----

Uh-oh!! Would you have helped the guy or ran for your life?? I mean, if Hunter beat the crap out of him, then he's bad right? Or maybe Hunter is the bad one...
