Synopsis
I married the man my father had chosen for me. Clearly, it was a marriage filled with hatred and contempt. But in my eyes, he was a savior to me. He was the one who freed me from my horrible father's grip. Although he treats me like I don't exist, he has never attempted to harm or speak ill about me. However, it came to an end for us. I realized I couldn't live like this forever once he went to war. As a result, my marriage ended the moment I stepped out of the Hyperion mansion seven years ago. Now, I live with the child of my deceased sister and act as his mother. Nonetheless, we reunited. But he appears to be different. He seems to be skinnier and miserable.  "Do you miss my mother?" "..'mother'?" After a brief pause, the duke's normally somber expression burst into a hard, well-cut sneer, scowling contemptuously. He looks at me with a grimace. "Not enough with leaving me but now you had a child?"

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

My knees were in excruciating pain after kneeling on the chilly ground for so long. I could feel my frail body trembling with weariness. My mouth is full of cold breath. Nonetheless, my gaze remains fixed on him.

" I told you several times. I'm not like my father or brothers. I'm not interested in this marriage either. I just married you because my father forced me to. Yet, I still wanted to assist you and the Hyperion family. I wish this family all the best. Please believe me, husband. "

"Ha. " The sound of his scowl echoed through the whole hall.

"This is not the first time you deceived me. Your family have committed so many heinous crimes and you still expect me to believe in you? What do you take me for, Vivienne?"

Looking at his face which was looking at me with such contempt, I lowered my gaze. I realized he couldn't hear anything I said at that point.

Even if I tell him several times, he will dismiss it as nothing more than a passing breeze in his ears.

He used to be a war hero on the front lines, and it generally lasted from less than a week to a month or two throughout our marriage. It became impossible to talk to him since he was so preoccupied. At the same time, I was barred from all family gatherings and was marginalized in minor affairs. I used to assume he purposefully overlooked the subtle and subtle harassment I experienced from the staff of this estate.

But it didn't bother me. because the only one who could ever hurt me was him.

So what's the point of attempting to save this marriage? Because of my family's influence, the land has prospered. The Hyperion family can now stand on their own. But nothing has changed in my marriage to him. I've done all in my ability to defy my father's orders and remain by his side. But what am I getting out of this marriage?

"...I understand."

My legs began to gather all of their remaining strength and I was able to regain my balance. I offer him a sour grin as I stand in front of him.

"It appears you loathe your wife to the point where even if I were found dead, you would be the only one to smile in delight."

I watched his body twitch a little when I spoke, but he didn't say anything. He remained mute, as if my statements were true. It's now my turn to sneer at him.

" I wish I could understand your complex thought, but I can't. If I take my own life, would you believe me then?" My fists grasped the hem of my garment to suppress my rage while my trembling voice spoke in frustration.

"Ha. You even treat me with your own life now? How far do you plan to go, Vivienne Calista?" The guy I had called my husband for three years stared at me with unfathomable glares. Even after three years of marriage, my husband addressed me by the name of my family. Is the passage of three years insignificant to him?

Ah. Throughout our marriage, he was never there for me.

What do I anticipate from him?

A love whisper? A kiss? A hug? We didn't even finish our duties as husband and wife. So, how do I address him? A stranger who lives in the same house? But is this even my house? It's all his from the start.

"The moment you step out of this mansion, this wife you loathe so much will leave your side."

As I warned him, my stride walk passed him by. My husband remains in the same position. Despite the fact that his face appeared shocked when I gazed at it for a second, he remained mute.

"...I-I. " His voices sound a bit confused but then he remain silent back. As if there is gold in his mouth that made him couldn't open his mouth anymore.

Clack. A footstep now resonated down the hall.

In anguish, I immediately closed my eyes. His footsteps gradually sound far away. Every stride he makes is like an arrow full of poison piercing my heart.

It seems you have made up your mind as I am.

I shift my head to look in his direction. His back was turned away from me. He stands so far away from me. Just like the gap we've always had from the moment we married. My eyes silently looking at him as he slowly getting on the horse to once again return to the battlefield and leave me behind.

I understand. I understand what you mean by your action. I warned you, and you chose to disregard it once more.

"With this, we are truly over. "

"How is my sister?"

Vivienne's gaze of sorrow met the physician next to her. Her sister's frigid body slowly seeps through the palm she clenches with her quivering fists.

She received word that her sister was on the point of dying after delivering birth the minute she officially left the Hyperion mansion. Vivienne immediately returns home without hesitation. Even though it was the place where she had been tortured her entire life, she pushed herself to see her precious sister. In that hell, she is the only one who treats her like a decent human being.

"Her body has always been fragile so we can't do anything..." The physician spoke as though it was just a matter of time until her sister closed her eyes forever.

"How can you claim to be the finest doctor in the Ophelia Empire if you can't save my sister?! "You are supposed to treat her until she recovers!"

My loud voice exploded across the whole room, rendering everyone quiet. I've never spoken my mind before, so it appears that they're all taken aback by my unexpected yell.

What? Do you think I'll be able to sit motionless while seeing my sister die in front of my eyes?

"She deserves it, doesn't she?"

A voice suddenly emerges from the direction of the door. When I recognized that voice, I instantly glared at him with disgust. I'm gritting my teeth right now. The owner of the voice has arrived with someone I hate so much. They smirk as they stand near the entrance.

"It's a fitting end for both of you. She deserved it, that beloved sister of yours. Such a slut like her, who unexpectedly returned home with a swollen belly, should be glad that we still consider her family. She has harmed our family's reputation and has refused to reveal the father of her child. It would have been preferable if she had simply died."

Vivienne looked at the man who dared to talk in such tones. That man, who she has never considered her brother in her whole life. Who was always torturing her, hitting her, and feeding her something that couldn't even consider as food.

"How dare you say such a thing? She is my sister. Calista's first born and the successor to the family. What gives you the right to speak ill of my sister in front of me?"

Vivienne was instantly engulfed by a dark atmosphere. It was a grimace and a dark aura filled with disdain and anger that she had hidden from her family. But she finally showed her ability today.

The curse of the Calista family. It was a curse that could only be awakened by someone with pure darkness inside them. And it appears that the darkness has long eaten Vivienne's heart.

"Would you take a look at that? We were the ones who committed heinous crimes, but you were cursed. Doesn't that mean you're no different from the rest of us?" The man grins.

"No. Vlade, she's even worse than us. She is so pathetic to be plagued by such curse." The man next to him eventually spoke out.

Vivienne delicately covered the curse's imprint on her right hand with her left. She is embarrassed.

Does the curse suggest she's the evil guy here?

This was the single secret she couldn't tell her husband, who already despised her. Isn't showing him that she was cursed simply going to aggravate her husband's contempt for her?

"HAHAHAHAH! She is now deafeningly quiet! How pathetic. Such a person like you cannot be considered Calista. You're so hideous with that curse!"

The two men who everyone claims are her brothers now walked out of the room laughing. She was left feeling ashamed of herself.

"Vivy... " A frail voice called out to her. Make her realize the moment.

"Sister..!" Her eyes well up with a single tear. She quickly reclaims her sister's hands and gently caresses them.

"You shouldn't mind... what they said..."

Her sister's hand is reaching for Vivienne's face. She lightly strokes it and smiles at her. "You are... my kind sister."

Vivienne quickly shakes her head. I disagree with her sister's statement.

"You are." Her sister gives her a nod.

"When I die, you will be... the only one to look after my child... I'm worried about you because you're too kind... "

Speaking as if she knows the future, Vivienne's sister smile a little before letting out a big cough. Blood splatter all around the sheets. She couldn't speak anymore since her throat hurts so much.

"I... count on you, my sister."

That was the last thing she said before the light in her eyes dimmed. It turned into blanks. Her sister went silent, her gaze fixed on the ceiling. Her hands had lost their grasp on Vivienne's palm. It's become frigid. Her entire body became cold.

And, as if time had stopped for Vivienne, she sobbed her heart out while holding her sister's cold body in her arms.

That was the last time Vivienne ever open her heart to anyone. Her heart, which had been swallowed by the darkness, had become cold and frozen in time.
