Chapter 50 - 49. Overbearing Bodyguard

"Are you really going to follow me to my classroom?"

Chen Jingyun looked at the dark lord beside her with disbelief and annoyance.

Today she was forced to wake up early no matter how much she protested. In fact, she was threatened with getting her eyebrow shaved off if she didn't wake up.

Look at him having the audacity to steal her trademark threat!

Hmmph!

Li Minghao was lucky that conversation happened yesterday or she would be the one acting all high and mighty over him.

What bodyguard? More like a jailor! I'm his prisoner!

Fine... At least she had her morning attendance guaranteed.

She won't run into trouble with Teacher Wu anymore.

She also will get to appreciate the morning sunlight...

The birds chirping...

And the tranquility of an empty classroom.

Those were the things Li Minghao told her to make her feel better.

Pfft!

Only an early-bird like Li Minghao would find comfort in those reasons!

He was so much like Lu Xin, back when they were in the detention center.

Hardworking, diligent, clever, disciplined, responsible, and full of routines.

While Lu Xin let her sleep in after a few tries, Li Minghao was more wicked in his ways and didn't have trouble taking an overbearing stand. He sure liked to boss people around.

Well, after all, he is the dark lord.

Still... why should I get up early because of his schedule and habits?! Isn't he the one acting as a bodyguard? Make it make sense! Chen Jingyun pouted angrily as she watched Li Minghao act all high and mighty.

Looking around as if nothing was wrong!

(Poor guy was actually enjoying the morning.)

"I already told you. Wherever you go, I follow. You should start getting used to my presence."

Li Minghao's nonchalant voice didn't help Chen Jingyun's current impression of him.

"Ho? Will you go as far as changing years to have classes with me?" Chen Jingyun sarcastically rolled her tongue, hinting her reluctance.

But alas, Li Minghao ignored it and kept replying in an obvious tone.

"Of course not, why would I waste my time repeating such easy stuff?"

"Then why are we doing this? It is not like something is going to happen to me one the way to class!" Chen Jingyun threw her hands up in the air as she entered her empty classroom.

If there is anything she hated in the world was being micromanaged.

When will these people understand she was a free soul?

"That might be true, but I would rather leave you in the classroom than sleeping until who knows when in the dorm." Li Minghao arched his eyebrow at her, mocking her for her lousy ways.

Letting out an exasperated sigh, Chen Jingyun sat down on her designated seat.

"Fine. You win."

"There was nothing to win in this matter." Li Minghao shrugged as he stood by the door.

He never went inside and only watched Chen Jingyun get to her seat.

"Whatever..."

"Anyways, remember I will come back to pick you up after class."

"Yeah, yeah. I know." Chen Jingyun nodded quickly trying to get him to leave. If she was going to get woken up so early, she would have to get the rest of her sleep in the classroom. And she was going to get that now!

Shu~ Go away Li Minghao!

Seeing her eagerness to go back to sleep, Li Minghao let out a low chuckle. It seemed like it was Chen Jingyun's core nature to sleep.

"Don't leave without me or you might wake up with one eyebrow missing." Li Minghao made a final comment before he left.

Rolling her eyes at him, Chen Jingyun found a comfortable spot in her arms.

She drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile...

Witnessing their ruckus from afar, there was a guy with traced of wound looking on with resentment and envy. He had a dark look on his face before a look of resignment settled in the form of a scowl. His clenched fist relaxing, but the tension never went away.

He seemed to be angry at the world.

It was passive, he wasn't actively letting it out, but it was out there for anyone to see.

Whether their interpretation of his anger was right or not, it would be another matter.

Arriving at the classroom, Hong Bao watched with resentment Chen Jingyun's sleeping figure. A gloom appearing in his eyes.

Why was she more fortunate and happy than him when they came from similar backgrounds?

Why did she get to be a friend to the elite rich people while he had to eat all that crap by himself?

And why did she act as if she belonged with them?

Didn't she know her place?

Unbeknownst to Chen Jingyun and everyone, Hong Bao was changing, tainting himself with corruptedness.

It would only be a matter of time for him to get to the point of no return.
