Chapter 56 - Chapter 55

"she's what!!!" echoed through the entire building. Those that looked like they were one step closer to death were magically energetic and on their feet.

The head doctor stood there watching the different reactions on their faces and suddenly he was facing an empty room.

All the GMNs excluding GMN-4 rushed to her room. They saw her standing there with her back to them. They just stared at her, speechless. She went about her business like she didn't notice their presence.

The head doctor was behind them. He had gotten more exercise in one day than in his entire life. They didn't wait for him to finish the details before they disappeared.

"she seems to be having hearing deficiency and maybe amnesia," the head doctor said, panting from the physical exertion of chasing after them. Man, these kids were fast!

They all turned to face him. If not for the severity of the situation, he would have laughed.

"come again," GMN-6 said,

"what did you say?" GMN-9 asked

The rest appeared speechless.

"We are not yet sure but she has not responded to anything since…you know…came back from the dead," the head doctor said. Still, how was that even possible?

They turned around and watched the girl who looked like she was packing. They couldn't understand what was going on. They just stared. Instead of pouncing on her and wrapping her in a bear hug. They didn't know what to make of this situation. She was perfectly fine before all this. She was alive and that was the most important thing.

GMN-6 summoned her senses to walk forward but before she could touch her, GMN-1 turned. All of them stopped in their tracks, even 6 whose hand was halfway up, poised to touch.

Cold clear eyes stared back at them. Not just staring back at them but staring through them like they weren't even there.

Her eyes swept over them like they weren't there and then back to the person in front of her. GMN-6 couldn't summon her brain to function. It was like the person she knew and the person standing in front of her were two different people.

After a few seconds, GMN-1 walked past them and went back to what she had been doing. It took someone tapping her for GMN-6 to come out of her stupor.

"she's not…" was all GMN-6 could manage to say.

GMN-3 was trying hard to believe the amnesia theory but he knew within him it was more than that. He had been the person that tapped 6 and he was still at loss. GMN-4 hadn't yet woken up and they had to keep Williams sedated because he wasn't in any way near mentally stable.

They didn't know what to do seeing as Doc and Deccan or even Silver was nowhere to be found, GMN-1 was dead and GMN-4 was out of commission. Now GMN-1 was back from the dead and it looked like an acute version of 'pet Sematary. GMN-3 turned to look at GMN-2.

"Why are you looking at me?" GMN-2 asked. He felt as numb as she looked.

"do something" GMN-3 replied

"me? You are the medically inclined one and her lab partner" GMN-2 replied

"Well, you're the psychologist and secret admirer. An expert on her psyche" GMN-3 countered. He never thought he would ever say this sentence ever.

GMN-2 took a deep breath. First things first. They needed to know the extent of her hearing impairment and amnesia. He stepped forward and got closer to her.

"GMN-1" he called but no response. He turned and looked at the rest and turned back to her." Rosetta" he called this time but there was still no response. He turned to the rest and shook his head in a negative.

"louder" the head doctor mouthed

"GMN-1!!!" he hollered and they had to close their ears and eyes. When they straightened back up she was looking at GMN-2. there was no expression on her face and her eyes looked distant like she wasn't within her body. Her eyes seem to freeze their blood because it was as if they were looking at a soulless shell. They swallowed and GMN-2 took several steps backward.

"Rosetta" the head doctor called out unconsciously when he saw the girl that turned. She shifted her gaze to him and his eyes widened. When he didn't say anything. She turned back to what she was doing and brought out the leather-bound parcel and then threw it into the bag.

What exactly is going on here? GMN-7 was confused. She had responded to both GMN-1 and Rosetta and she heard the head doctor even though he was barely audible did she just notice his lips move? Was her hearing fine or was it activated by the loud shout? Did she respond to 'GMN-1' or the loud sound? Or did the vibration caused by the shout what caught her attention?

"GMN-1" GMN-7 called softly. She just zipped her bag, carried it, and walked past them. They stood there for a few seconds like they didn't understand what just happened. Then they turned and went after her.

They found her in the garage with a car key. She opened the passenger's side, dumped the bag, and walked round to the driver's side.

"This is madness!" GMN-3 finally exclaimed. It was like they had been in a trance until he realized that she was leaving. He walked towards her but she ignored him and placed her hand over the car door handle. He placed his hand over the handle and swallowed when he met her eyes. Empty green eyes stared back at him.

"where are you going?" GMN-3 asked her but there was no response. "What is wrong with you?"

Still, there was no response. She just stared through him. She stood still, emotionless and patient.

He took a better look at her. There was something off but he couldn't place it. This whole situation was so odd and seriously disturbing for his peace of mind.

"I don't feel so good" GMN-5 complained but no one paid her any attention. "Seriously guys I feel…" she didn't complete her statement before she slumped to the ground. GMN-6 turned to her and made to say something when she slumped to the ground too.

The rest began to drop one by one and GMN-3 turned back confused. He saw his fellow GMNs falling to the ground. He experienced sudden shortness of breath and dizziness. As he lost consciousness he could see black rapidly and noisily moving away.

The head doctor panted as he rushed into the garage. He seriously couldn't keep up with these youths. He stared at the scene before him. The party was long over. He rushed forward and touched them, opening their eyes. They were alive but not conscious and she was long gone, the tire marks were a testament to that. He beeped his pager nonstop calling for emergency backup. The medical staff was working again. They wheeled them back to the rooms they vacated.

He looked around, the entire complex looked desolate and he felt, things just got worse
