Golden light shone around their entwined arms and, when it faded away, there were marks left behind on all four of their wrists.  Overlapping double infinity symbols representing their marriage contract.

Symbols matched the color of a fae's magic. Flint and Lily's and her parents' had been green. The Breezes' were storm cloud gray. And every married werewolf she ever met had brown symbols.

Ruby had never met a mismatched elemental fairy couple who got married before so she had never seen a set that wasn't the same before now. Hers were gold and Ash's were red. The marks were small—not much bigger than a blood seal—but it proved that they had actually done it.

Every married couple she knew had followed the human tradition of the female taking the male's last name because it helped them blend in to human society better. She wanted to do it for a different reason.
