A force that violently tugs at your heart with no sign of stopping. Your heart beating faster than a cheetah can run. The feeling of impending doom coming for you. This feeling of fear is what my classmates felt during the critical lockdown that my school started one minute ago. As my eight fearful classmates and I huddled together behind our teacher's mahogany desk, I felt calmer than a monk that meditated for fifteen years in the jungles of China. I have never understood why I was calm but I know that it wasn't because I was surrounded by my classmates. I mean, I didn't even know most of them and it was already nearing the end of the school year!
Right before the lockdown started, I could sense a murderous and angered energy entering the school. As soon as the critical lockdown began, the student on my left told us that he thinks a man brought a gun into the school building. This, of course, put everyone into a state of panic... except me.
As I was huddled on the floor between my best friends, Felleana and Luko, the first two gunshots were fired and they rang through all six classrooms that are in the school. Now, more than ever, I could sense that my teacher and all of my classmates were petrified with fear. Unlike everyone else, I still felt overwhelmingly calm.
But then something changed. I started to feel less of the calmness and, as slow as molasses, all of my peers grew calm. Soon after that, I could sense no fear in the entire school... but my own.
