A Level Zero's Struggle (part 2)
Qiao and Linwin were sitting at the small general hall for the newbie brawlers.
Brawlers was another term used to denote Zeroes. At this level all they could do was fight recklessly as if in a brawl with no technique which was why they were called so.
The senior guy at the desk a bit far away from them was going through stacks of document, organizing it.
At that moment, a group of five chasers entered in the small hall and stood against the desk.
This world was not advance in term of knowledge or it was kept away from weaklings.
Hunting was solely a physical task and there were no special skills to hunt the monster. There were no techniques or methods that could allow people to even search up location of monsters easily.
All of the information that chasers got was from Guild, which they in turn had received as a quest. Information was reported by people who happened to encounter some monster which was then put up as a quest.
People could also earn by providing this information to Guild, but searching up location of lairs of monster deep in the forest was even more difficult.
Other than this, the Guild would also give a basic description about the monster if it was some kind that had been hunted earlier.
Knowing about the weak point of a monster could prove to be really helpful at a crucial moment. But although it sounded easy in words, it was a lot more difficult to hunt one even after knowing its weakness.
Which monster would present itself decorated in the platter and let them kill it?
Dexterity and the physical strength were key points for a hunter which he learned through experience of hunting and by earning experience points of course.
During a hunt it was important to calculate the movements of the beast, make quick decisions to act, and remain calm and collected at the same moment to avoid doing something stupid. A headstrong willpower was also important. And all this was achieved by experiencing it again and again.
The world where Qiao was thrown was not well developed in term of technology, knowledge, conditions etc.
The whole continent was surrounded by monsters and large population were collected in the downtowns. But no luxuries or facilities were provided here as all of it was grasped by the influential and strong hunter and their families. The common people lived in fear instead. Afraid of rampaging monsters, but also afraid to offend the mighty hunters. What if the hunters stopped protecting them from the monsters? Then they would really die.
All the occupations and trade were also under the hands of rich hunters or powerful guild owners.
....
The chasers looked at the lazy man and glared, "Is there any mission available for now?" the leader of the chasers asked.
The man raised his right brow up and then opened a notebook and looked at the fresh list of missions for the level one and two chasers.
The one who asked was a beginner level two chaser while others were level one peak.
This meant that if an easy level two mission was given to them, they could do it.
"This one, killing a firefly is available," he then shuffled to another notebook and found a particular paper, "For general informal, this specific monster does not carry its name, it is only named firefly because of its appearance resembles to firefly, it does not have wings and you can kill it by stabbing a double sword through its abdomen,"
After reading out the general information, he put away the paper safely and picked a pen to write down the direction and place where it was to be found. This monster lived in its own territory and not in crowd.
Qiao heard the name and then the description, could not help but feel funny about whoever gave this name to the monster. He must have be in a hurry for naming it like that.
The leader read the paper and kept with him.
He was satisfied that their team got a mission and hopefully, his other team mates would be able to level up during this mission.
And the spoils were going to be extra perks for him. Since he provided a chance to them, they were willing to keep lesser amount and let him keep bigger share.
"Do you have any brawlers here right now?" he hurriedly asked, if they could find a brawler then they could set out today and leave for the mission.
The man behind the desk gestured toward the two men sitting in the hall, "They are the only ones present currently," he unhurriedly introduced.
The chaser scratched his beard and looked at them both.
Qiao felt that he was being examined from head to toe while compared to normal people, his condition was in tatters.
The freshly burnt cloths and the wounds which were yet to heal could be seen.
The chaser kept glancing at Qiao and gestured, "Do you want to earn points, we are willing to give you chance," the leader shamelessly spoke despite knowing that what he was saying was not truth.
Qiao has already observed what was going on and he was giving attention to these chasers when they entered the hall.
He stood up, bade farewell to the Linwin and walked towards the group. He knew he had to go along with this as he needed points.
'At the stake of my life? So be it'
Until now, he had clearly learned what was his position in this world and what he was expected to do?
The chasers had clear idea that after facing one or two circumstances, usually brawlers understand why they were given a chance and what possible outcome could be if they joined.
Still many brawlers willingly follow them and only few with good luck were able to make through. But the continuous stream of young brawlers never ends.
The token shinning around his neck showed that it was newly acquired.
From the appearance Qiao looked like he barely escaped death and from the shapeless stone in the hands, he looked like a beggar.
His condition was just opposite as to what he looked when he was thrown in this world.
In just one day, he learned many brutal rules of this world then how he could look like he used to be.
It was already much that he was alive.
The leader cast a meaningful glance at others and they set out for the journey.
