Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

February 10, 2056. Time was of the essence, subject Zero needed to be put back on ice. Because this decision will halt many of our projects we need to get as much blood from Subject Zero as we can. With his blood we can at least make a few cures before he is put away. If we wish to continue our project, we need to come up with a serum so complex that it slow down Subject Zero's adaptation process. In short of literally hollowing out half his brain every time we need to control him, the serum will be much more effective.

To my dismay, the higher ups wanted us to continue with our projects until the deadline, our deadline. I do not think it is wise or prudent to keep Subject Zero awake. I held a secret meeting with my staff. I did not want to do something so underhanded that I would regret it for the rest of my life but they do not value our lives, why should we care about theirs?

February 14, 2056. Disguised as a Valentine party my staff and I held the secret meeting. "Listen, I am sorry to say that the higher ups do not care about us. They want us to continue with the projects involving Subject Zero." Dr. Elena Lopez exclaimed "What?! This is insane! Subject Zero may have helped the world many times over but it was never his choice to make. He is, by any means, a saint. He will kill us all and our families the moment he regains control." I agreed "I know Dr. Lopez, that is why I asked to work on a new serum before that happens, that is plan A. Plan B is if we run out of time and we have made little to no progress on the new serum. The leaders of each group will hold on their person data files of the names, pictures and addresses of all the higher up staff that gave us this suicidal project. I have a friend that was able to give me these files even though it was downright treason. When I explained the situation, he readily agreed. With these files we can, at the very least take them down with us." Everyone nodded and yelled out "AGREED!"

March 3, 2056. We had a meeting to see how far along we were in regards to the new serum. No luck. We had a vote amongst our staff if we should let Subject Zero loose of our own volition and try to reason with him or let the timer run out and let fate decide. I gave everyone until the end of the week to decide and to see if they can send their families away. On March 10, 2056, we had our meeting and decided that we will let fate decide. I personally am not religious person, as a man of science, but, if there is a God, please help us.

April 15, 2056. We set up a program on the brain activity machine attached to Subject Zero. The program will send out warnings to all of our Retina Com-Links. It will also send a map of Subject Zero's current location along with escape paths to take on our Holo-phones. I hoped that we would never have to hear from the program but the program worked as intended, Subject Zero was loose. Like everyone else I was in a panic and had a family that I loved. We needed to leave but that will only be a temporary respite, as Subject Zero knew how to access any and all types of systems due to the upgrade in his learning ability and the knowledge gap since we reawakened him. The blaring alarms are not helping m concentration. I made sure to record the entire situation and upload this to the main server so that, if Subject Zero is ever subdued, the next project leader will take better care for when their time comes.

"This is Dr. Ashton Kelley. I am the current head of Project Zero and this may be my last log. My predecessor, Dr. Ruben Forze, predicted that this situation was inevitably going to happen. Project Zero was initially about curing the world's illnesses, more specifically the people's illnesses, but because of war and warmonger higher ups with deep pockets, we also helped create the world's first HWMD, Human Weapon of Mass Destruction. Subject Zero is a person with a miracle genetic code, I know it is hypocritical of me to say given my field, but it doesn't take away from the fact that without Subject Zero many people would die out due to evolving viruses and diseases. Subject Zero has also stopped many battles and even war from escalating. I know that this admission of guilt will never be enough to justify the fact that we continued with the experiments of Subject Zero."

"Aarrghhhh!!!!" "Help me!" "Please no!" "That horrible screaming you are hearing are the voices of my staff, oh God, being killed off due to the excess rage, hatred and resentment that Subject Zero has been through throughout the years since his captivity. A special serum that was developed to control Subject Zero no longer works. The previous serum that was used was simply amplified but the base formula hardly changed. Due to Subject Zero's rapid regeneration and adaptation, we needed to create an original serum for that purpose but we could not test it on him due to the fear of him adapting and overcoming the new serum before we run tests."

"Since Subject Zero is currently on a war path I do not have much time. Hopefully he finds the files of all those who gave us the order to continue so my staff and I could at least die knowing we will see them in Hell shortly. If by some stroke of luck, divine intervention or through strategy subject Zero is recaptured, just know that your death timer will start from the moment this project reopens. If my family were receive this message, know that I love you with all my heart. Even though I will no longer be a part of the living if my family were to will live on, to those born after I perish, I will never see you, get to know you, hold you, kiss you or hug you but know that I love you." Dr. Kelley found it eerie that the noises stopped and turned around.

"That was beautiful Doc. Too bad that your entire family and the families of all those involved will die." Subject Zero sinisterly said while holding the head a scientist. "Subject Zero, please at least leave those not involved alive." Dr. Kelley pleaded. "Oh, so when it comes to killing or erasing innocents connected to you I should show mercy? Mighty hypocritical of you Doc. I know that you know that I was aware of my surroundings. I already took all the files I need. I will give a small reprieve to the ones who thought of giving me this information though. I will let live the youngest of all their families and to show that I am justified in killing you all off I will let your families know at least why they are going to be killed." Subject Zero said calmly. "Thank you, for at least showing, however little, mercy despite everything you have been through." Dr. Kelley sighed. "I was human after all. I had feelings just like all of you. One of my regrets is that I couldn't get to the previous team that started the whole thing. Since they have been living generously due to my forced cooperation, I will have to rectify their lives by me being free now. But I gotta say, you lead scientists show too much heart and compassion despite the fact you are using my life to do it." Subject Zero said softly as he approached Dr. Kelley. "What is one life compared to the billions or even trillions that were saved because of your "forced cooperation"?" Dr. Kelley argued. Subject Zero in a flash grabbed Dr. Kelley by the neck and screamed "IT WAS MY LIFE! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE, IT WAS MY LIFE AND YOU HAD NO RIGHT TO USE IT!" Subject Zero bellowed. With great force, Subject Zero broke Dr. Kelley's neck.
