Chapter 15 - Subtle Darkness

"You have to remember, Shio." An eerie voice said as it sounded so melancholic and heavenly. The voice felt familiar to Shio like he had heard this speak out to him a thousand times before.

Shio remained standing still, in the middle of this pitch-black darkness. He waited as he tried to hear that voice again, desperately wanting to know whose voice was it and how it sounded so familiar. It was like he was in a sort of dream state, everything felt light like he felt he was floating on water.

"Shio... Have you remembered it yet?" It spoke out once again. Its tone gradually changing from its melancholy. Shio looked from left to right, in hopes that he would find where the voice was coming from, only to see nothing but pitch black.

"That day. We had so much fun, didn't we? It was a very nice evening, with us bonding the whole night! Now tell me, have you remembered it yet?" The voice asked, its tone getting a little playful than before. It seemed to be clearer than it was before, but Shio couldn't assert whose voice it was. It was like it was blocked off from his memories.

"Shio..?" It called out once more. He was getting more anxious as the voice went closer to him. His total blindness from the dark made it worse for him, for he doesn't know anything that's going on around him.

"SHIO!!!" It yelled. Shio was suddenly snapped back from his trance as he sees the blood-filled towel on his hand and the wriggly parasite that had created a hole from Hyuna's injured leg. Hyuna had passed out long ago and she was shivering in her sleep.

He looked at her body and onto the old man, whose body was breathing heavily as he leaned his arm at the sliding door. Jarvis was looking at him, in a threatening look as one of his hands was holding the basin of hot water. It was a small basin and was made of plastic with the color of maroon in it.

"Shio! Don't touch her leg!" The old man yelled. This had alarmed some of the other members from the group as they began to gather at the door. Dylan, together with Maia holding onto the edge of his shirt, could also be seen there.

"What's the fuss all about?" Dylan asked. He was standing next to the old man as his gaze starts to wander off and onto Hyuna's severe wound. His face suddenly went pale and hurried off to the bathroom at the end of the hallway.

"Dylan!" Maia called out as Dylan hurried out of the scene. He was almost about to puke his stomach out due to the unusual sight at Hyuna's leg. Maia debated to herself whether she would follow Dylan or not, but she decided to stay and help out with Shio and Hyuna.

Shio was still trembling from his hallucinations and from the immense amount of Hyuna's blood on both his hands. It reminded him of something so distant, or perhaps maybe, it reminded him of the massacre incident earlier. Is it even considered a massacre if they were already in the afterlife?

Maia came close to him as Jarvis did too. She gave a good look at the wriggling, worm-like parasite popping out of Hyuna's skin. It hasn't fully come out of the skin yet, but it was producing major wounds at her veins on her leg, making it bleed out even more. The parasite seemed like it didn't want to come out of her.

"Can you tell me what had caused this?" She asked Shio, who was busy looking at his trembling hands. He still felt disturbed, despite, being yelled at earlier by old man Jarvis. "Shio," Maia called out again as he turned his head onto her with such freight.

"What happened?"

"I d-don't know." He said, still cowering in fear. For some reason, he was very terrified at what illusion he had just experienced-like it was a memory not meant to reach the surface of his mind again.

"What do you mean? Why? What's wrong?" Maia asked worriedly. She took the basin of hot water from Jarvis's hands and took the fresh new towel as well. She dipped the towel onto it, squeezing it afterward as she began to apply it at Hyuna's wound with pressure.

Hyuna winced in pain as she was still soundly sleeping. She had passed out from the excruciating pain as she couldn't seem to take it any longer. Maia continued to apply pressure, Hyuna's blood tainting the fresh white towel as Maia tries to stop her bleeding. It was very crucial for her to stop the bleeding as there was not sufficient technology in that world that could help save her from blood loss.

"It's nothing. Don't worry about it." Shio muttered as Maia was busy attending to Hyuna's wound. He looked to her and she looked like she knew what she was doing, despite being almost the same age as her.

"About her wound..." He said. Maia looked instantly at his direction as she continued to apply pressure to her wound. She was anticipating what he's about to say so that it would give her a clearer conclusion about the wound. Maia was a freshman medicine student, before having been transported here in the afterlife. She had a very bright mind and was praised by many people, it was only a shame that she had gone on an accident and ended up being here.

"What about it?"

"A pig-looking monster had attacked her and old man Jarvis said that animal-looking monsters tend to have some parasite attached to them. It was probably where 'that' came from." He said, pointing at Hyuna's wound. As he pointed, Shio noticed that his finger was still shaking as he tries to calm himself down.

"I see." She answered, turning her gaze back at the shivering Hyuna who was still deep in her sleep. Maia was now thinking about her wound since she had not encountered something like this before. However, she knew that she had to extract the parasite lurking under her skin—the only problem is how.

Shio, on the other hand, was still shaking from fear. The two didn't seem to notice it that much since he was holding it back. He couldn't help but feel frustrated at the sight of his cowardice. "Tch." He walked away from the room and went to his assigned room.

The crowd that was gathering at Hyuna's room had now subdued, though there were still at least five people watching the whole scene. Before Shio had arrived at his room, he was suddenly halted by a familiar man whose face he had already seen before.

He was the man who had warned everyone from the incoming ambush from the demons. The one who had great hearing skills.
