Chapter 3 - 3. Brie & Blitz

Since the time of the Ice King several hundreds of years had passed and Rehan was entering the exact same clearing on which disaster came to be and was also stopped.

Starlight illuminated his path and he had to close his eyes because he didn't await this much brightness. The girl on his back just kept her sleeping beauty image on and didn't say a word while Rehans legs trembled like crazy. Once again, he clenched his teeth and put one foot in front of the other till he reached a tree stump in the middle of the wide grass field. He put her down on it and collapsed beside the stump. Rehan stretched out his short legs and let his head fall down on top of the stump.

"Ouch..." He hissed as tears filled his clear eyes. They vanished soon, after he blinked several times.

His name in this world was Blitz (meaning: lightning). A 7-year-old boy who should have died after being eaten by a dragon.

Here and there dragons demanded ceremonial sacrifices. Those sacrifices were something like payment for the dragons. Either humans wanted to be left alone or to be protected by the mighty creatures. Blitz – as timid and quite as he was – had to pay the price for the protection of a little mountain village.

How had he managed to escape that fate? Easy. He devoted himself to the dragon and pledged his loyalty to the superior creature. He promised to always stay by their side till the day he died, and all that without showing an ounce of fear. The dragon laughed at him and gave Blitz 7 days to make his value clear and Blitz succeeded with flying colours.

Blitzs temperament and resilience didn't only impress the dragon – who had wanted to eat fresh meat for once – but also their little daughter. Her name was Brie. Brie liked the human child and asked her mother not to eat Blitz since she wanted to have a playmate. Mommy dragon said yes after the promised 7 days went by and Blitz was then directly integrated into their daily lives. Unfortunately – some months later – their peaceful life was interrupted by a small mercenary group. Mommy dragon gave her all to protect her daughter and the little human, but had to send them away in the end.

Blitz and Brie went directly into the forbidden forest, since the mercenaries wouldn't follow them there but deep in the woods lurked other dangers.

While Brie cried her eyes out and screamed after her mother, Blitz tried to find a way to survive this ordeal. He had promised Mommy dragon to protect Brie with all means necessary. Regrettably luck wasn't on his side and a few hours after their escape a blood wolf crossed their paths. Blitz tried to protect Brie – as he had promised – and therefore lost his whole lower half. The blood wolf seemed to be happy with just this and went away. It wasn't really scientific that such a big wolf would be satisfied with a meagre lower half of a weak 7-year-old boy but Rehan already knew such nonsensical occurrences. They mostly happened in lower difficulties as well as some persons who he treated as Mary-Sue-characters. Those kinds where often kissed by fate and totally pure souls. At least most of the time.

So, he didn't wonder about that point as much, furthermore Blitzs heroic sacrifice took place around the time his appearance ought to be.

After Blitz was left dying Brie came out of the woods where the little boy said she should hide. She crawled on all fours and cried again. Brie had lost her mother and was too shocked to be of any use for Blitz against the blood wolf but now she had caused his demise. The little dragon couldn't accept the death of another family member so she did something that was prohibited. Brie fed her little brother blood. It was an act out of instinct, purely led by raw heartache and self-accusation. But even though dragon blood was very potent it couldn't bring back the dead. Instead she let Rehan in and Rehan would fulfil his mission. Following the fate of the world, helping male and female lead to get together and let them face their destiny as one loving pair.

So once Brie had rescued her beloved 'little brother', she collapsed and they both slept through a few days. Meanwhile the missing lower half of Blitz reconstructed itself, bone by bone, tissue after tissue and organ after organ. Human vitality came back to his body.

When Blitz or rather Rehan woke up he was surprised to see a eleven to twelve year old girl lying next to him and wearing absolutely nothing. The soft light of the warm sun let her look like a goddess incarnate. A feature that most main or side characters had. No matter what happened to them, they always look flawless. For that specific reason it was disagreeable to let her stay like this. In the original course of story Blitz had given her his clothes, so Rehan did the same. To his relief, his own ragged clothes were far too big for his small body. As it was like this, they could cover everything important and Rehan could breathe easily. In the next moment he saw a golden area over his shin. Pale golden scales were shining under the sunlight, foreshadowing Blitz's death.

At this point in time Blitz didn't knew what they meant and where his destiny would lead to but Rehan knew it better than anyone. If a human – without an ounce of magic - drank the blood of a dragon, an illness would form. Neither was it contagious nor inheritable. The scales which where only covering a little part of Blitz's body would spread. Because of this his life expectancy would sink to 30 and max. 35. Between 30 and the deadly 35 the scales stopped their growth and every bodily function would then cease without any warning.

A really tragic end, but Blitz didn't even manage to reach that.

After male and female lead got together Blitz would extract his own golden core and give it to his sister. In the course of years, he had been nurturing it without even having magic himself. The cause was of course Bries blood, that circulated in him and formed his golden core with a part of magic from her. Blitz had always wanted to repay her for what she did in their childhood so he nurtured it till the day finally came.

War broke out in the capital and Blitz decided that it was time. After he fought himself nearly to death, he honoured himself by presenting his golden core to Brie. She on the other hand shared her brothers last gift with her fated partner and both reached god-like powers after absorbing it. In the meantime, Blitz took his rightful place as cannon fodder, to make the main characters reach transcendence and uniting Yin and Yang through their marriage.

Brie a female aurum dragon and Romeo son of fate and blessed by the hand of the Ice King.

'Please, a big applause and flowers for our lovely couple!'

"Congratulations…"

Rehan pressed his lips together till nothing more than a slightly curved line was left. His little short fingers stretched out in the direction of the black glittering night sky. He tried to capture all the little lights with his hands. The ocean of stars was reflected in his eyes and a deep insight could be encountered in them. It was an insight that nobody expected to exist in the eyes of a 7-year-old. It could attract and repel, was a contrast which would make many curious. What could that boy have gone through to reach such a sage-like stillness in his eyes? It was something that maybe was better left unsaid. Too dangerous seemed the lustre in his eyes.

Abruptly Rehan leaned forward and put an end to the moment of melancholia forming around him. He shouldn't be out of character, at least nobody should find out that he was out of character. That's why he finally stood up and took on something else. Slowly Rehan moved to the edge of the clearing, searching after a special plant. His goal was to hide the scales on his shin so that Romeo and his fellows wouldn't be able to see that he was destined to die. Though Rehan knew that Blitz wasn't discovered right after meeting Romeo for the first time, one could never be too sure. Additionally, it would already create enough uproar, if a female human was found in the most dangerous forest in all of Asir. Especially after all the abductions of male humans in recent months. The assumption 'she is a female demon and could harm us easily' was only natural for the careful mercenaries. That's why Rehan needed to be the innocent poor child everyone would see in him. He – as a pure human – could convince them that he and his 'big sister' where harmless victims.

And he wouldn't even lie, since they actually lost everything. Just not to the "cruel" Yinnians.

Rehan found what he searched for very fast and fastened the armlong leave of the macrotree around his leg. The vermillion coloured hair band which had held his hair together was now used to secure the leave in place. His hair fell down instantly and covered his small shoulders. With a shrug he sent his honey brown locks back and stood up. Trembling, Rehan walked back to the tree stump and rolled up right next to Brie. His body was tired and exhausted, he had to take a rest. Rehan was sure that the story would progress as he fell into sweet sleep.
