Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 ~ Bonding

Evynn sighed deeply as she sat on her bed her long blond hair tied up in a high ponytail, her empty suitcase lay open next to her, clothes strew around the room. "Why do we have to go up north to visit some dusty old people that we've never even met?!" she moaned to herself, flopping back onto her bed staring at the ceiling absently through her clear bluish-grey eyes, which somehow perfectly gave away every emotion that she felt. "I've never even heard about my so called grandparents! This is ridiculous, not so much as a call or card for the whole twenty-two years that I've been alive and now all of a sudden they want to see us?!" she grumbled frustrated sitting back up and looking around her room at her light pink walls that hadn't changed much at all since she was a child just an added poster or picture here and there. She wasn't looking forward to this trip at all, but she would put on a smile and go along with it for the sake of her mother and the twins who all seemed quite happy to be going on this so called adventure. "I bet they don't even have wifi." she whispered in horror as she stood up and walked over to her closet to actually start packing.

Two hours and three unannounced intrusions by the boys later, Evynn was just about finished packing and had all the clothes picked up off of the floor and placed into the laundry basket where they belonged. She neatly folded her last pair of pants and placed them on top of the pile of clothing that was overflowing out of her luggage, she just put down the top and began the struggle to zip it up when her door burst open revealing two mischievous grins. "Just in time!" she chuffed looking over towards the two seven year old's. "Think you could come over here and help me close this you little monkeys?" she asked grinning at the boys, who scurried over to her as they were asked.

The two children climbed up onto the bed striking some superhero poses before yelling and jumping onto the top of the suitcase. "Stop fighting villain!" one of the two almost identical boys yelled. That was the problem with identical twins you see, unless you know them then you probably couldn't tell them apart due to the fact that any differences were either very subtle or personality differences. These two though were a little easier to tell apart as, where one had the same eyes as Evynn, the other had the prettiest shade of emerald green, just like his father.

With the added weight to the top of the suitcase Evynn managed to zip it with ease. "Ohh, my heroes!" she said in a swoon in an old western accent as she fell to the ground pretending to faint.

"Come on Evynn that's not funny at all!" giggled the green eyed boy "If you don't get up me and Alec are gonna jump on you!" he continued as he stood on the edge of the bed arms spread open wide. Evynn continued to lay on the floor in silence not moving a muscle as the boy peered down at her.

"Then you leave us no choice Evy!" Yelled the blue eyed Alec as he took off from the bed, flying through the air and landing right on top of his sister causing them both to groan loudly. "Ohh, that wasn't a very good idea Xander." he moaned as he sat up and looked over to his twin.

Evynn sat back up with a groan and rubbed her head "You really need to lay off the snacks Al, you are really getting heavy." she coughed out as she patted the young boy's head.

"What is going on in here?! I thought I told you to pack, not renovate! What is with all this banging and yelling?" said Grace the middle aged woman who was now leaning against the door frame staring at her energetic children.

"Well Mom you see, I was packing, but then the clothes came to life and started to drag me into the suitcase with them. I was completely helpless against their tangled powers, but then the boys heard my struggle and helped me fight them off, so we could seal them away forever in the depths of this suitcase dungeon!" Evynn exclaimed dramatically motioning towards her freshly packed suitcase on her bed as her brothers snickered quietly at her story.

"Oh, well if that's the case than you all must have worked up quite an appetite. I was just on my way up to tell you all it was time for dinner just as you were wrapping up this valiant battle of yours it seems." Retorted their mother motioning towards the stairs in a gesture that told her children 'That was enough fooling around until after you've eaten!'

The three of them looked at each other one more time, grins still plastered to their faces, before they all rose to their feet and made a raced through the door. Evynn followed closely behind her brothers as they filed out through, just as Evynn was leaving her room her mother touched her shoulder gently. "Thank you sweetie, I really mean it! I know that you don't see the point in going all the way up to visit the grandparents you've never met and it means so much to me that you are being so considerate about it." her mother began with a soft voice "Please don't blame your grandparents for never contacting us, it really wasn't their fault. They really had their hands full raising me and my siblings so far up north, as soon as I got the chance I was the one who left them. I guess you could say that I was kind of a rebellious child. That's probably where Eathon got his rebellious streak from. I'm sure that they really meant to contact us sooner. She said giving her Daughter a tender hug.

Evynn stared at her mother, eyes wide, and nodded. Her mother never really talked much about her childhood up north, she always assumed that it was bad and that she didn't really like the rest of her family much. She grabbed her mothers hand and gave it a little encouraging squeeze before continuing on to the kitchen after the twins.

Dinner was followed by some board games and a few last minute packing items for the beginning of the trip the next morning. They were scheduled to leave bright and early at 8:00 am and then they had a long eighteen hour drive ahead of them, not including pit stops. It was a long drive from Dawson Creek to Whitehorse in the Yukon, but they couldn't afford for them all to fly there so it was the only option left aside from not going at all, which definitely had Evynn's vote.

One last check of all the luggage, snacks and food in the now packed truck and they were all ready to turn in early to get as much sleep as they could for the long trip ahead of them.
