The next day was a bright sunny morning and for the first time within the past two weeks, the sun broke out again in the entire district as though the bad weather had finally decided to take a day off.
Lately, Santina and Mikael had taken a hobby of visiting Anton at the nearby orphanage and their visit only became more often as the killing continued and today was not an exemption.
Since the orphanage was the closest thing to a lead that they go so far, the two hope that they could at least get something from constantly visiting the place.
The two arrived at the orphanage just right in time to see Anton bending over a bubbling pot of rice and chicken congee. Its heavy scent of garlic and ginger hung heavy in the air and one whiff was enough to make even Santina's stomach growl. That was despite the fact that she and Mikael already had a fair amount of food for their breakfast before coming over.
"You sure are a glutton, you little pig."
Mikael told Santina with a snicker.
Santina, on the other hand, did not take offense from the other party's comment about her. In fact, she even laughed upon hearing him. Then she deeply inhaled the aroma of gingerly broth and toasted garlic, layered with the scent of freshly cut spring onions.
Meanwhile, when Anton saw the two coming over, he raised the ladle that he was holding in his left hand to welcome and waved at them, spraying his shirt as well as a few kids with drops of the thick yellow porridge in the process.
The other party was only wearing a plain white shirt and he matched it with his baggy blue jeans yet despite how casual his clothes were, Anton was still able to pull it off perfectly and made himself stand out amidst the crowd.
His natural brownish hair glowed under the sunlight and from afar, the young man really looked like a celebrity who seemed to be in the middle of attending a charity event.
Even from the distance that they were at, Santina could already see clearly the other party's sharp jawline which was the accent of his appeal. Anton sure knew how to carry himself because even his shadow alone looked handsome.
"Glad you could make it----"
The young man said as he tried to inject as much enthusiasm as he could on his voice. But before he could even finish what he was about to say, he already got distracted by the unruly and hungry children around him.
"Here you are. Don't spill it...Wait! You'll get your share, don't push."
Anton tried to greet the two while at the same time dispensing bowl after bowl and keeping the more aggressive children in line.
"This is exactly how I pictured you, Kel once all of this was over and you became a fully ordained priest. Knee-deep in rice gruel and children."
Santina joked to humor the other party and when Mikael heard her, he replied with a smirk.
"Well, I wish I could be at least half as handsome as he then."
'But you are.'
Santina said inside her head but decided not to voice her thoughts out loud
"----Sorry, Brother Kel, Professor..."
The young man apologized as soon as they came near, then he handed over his task of rationing to the other volunteers hovering close by.
"Saturday is always a busy day. But today had been exceptionally busy. Because some volunteers from City Hall give the volunteers skills-training."
Anton tried to explain to them while rubbing the palms of his hands on the front of his shirt. Then he led them through the crowded open grounds of the place.
"Ohh??? So you guys are somehow getting help from the government."
Mikael inquired as he did not expect that a private institution like them was still receiving some sort of aid from the government.
"Well not exactly, actually this was the first. But we do have a constant benefactor who sends us free foods and services every month."
Anton replied with a shrug. But when Mikael heard his answer, a glint flashed on his eyes as though a thought had gone through him.
"Was it every last week of the month???"
He asked Anton out of the blue and although the other party had no idea why he was curious about that information, he still gave him an honest answer.
"Yes. Weekends usually."
Mikael nodded his head afterward and remained silent so Anton took the initiative to keep the conversation going.
"Our benefactor is really helpful. Look, He even sent us a free mobile clinic over there."
He said as he pointed to a large white van, almost as big as a bus. It is parked at one side of the small building, and there was a line of people waiting patiently in the shade. Some were seated while others were standing around makeshift wooden benches as children ran in circles around them.
Little did they know that Santina had already been eyeing the same van ever since she saw it at the corner of her eyes. For a moment, she considered having her bad tooth out but wondered if a local dentist was as good as her own.
"Hey, Anton!"
All of a sudden, Santina called the other party out and the young man instantly stopped on his tracks upon hearing her call him. He turned towards her direction and inquired.
"Yes, Professor?"
"Do you have a dentist here?"
She asked as soon as she caught up with them.
"Why? Yes, we do."
Anton replied with a confused smile as he had no idea why did Santina ask him about it out of the blue.
