Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

It was the day of the month where the moon is at it's fullest. It was also the day where monsters crept through villages and slaughter the innocents throughout the night. During times like this of the year, people are expected to hide in their shelters.

People were cognizant of this dread, they called it The Bloody Night. People knew that monsters attack every quarter of the year during the full moon. And today, marked the first quarter of the year and the first full moon of the month.

People closed their doors and hid in terror as they knew that when these monsters attack, it would be the end. Not a single person saw the monsters in flesh as no one lived to tell the tale. The people could only guess what these monsters truly looked like based on the casualties they have done. Burned houses and disfigured and wrecked bodies, these were found. Hundreds of people were murdered. So, most people described these monsters as wolf-like creatures with sharp fangs and claws that could tear the flesh instantly, capable of such bloodbath.

However, a man knew that these monsters don't look like what most people believed them to be. He knew that they're vicious monsters, but that's not all to it, they appeared to be human-like as well, making it more dangerous as they can blend in well with the people.

The man was prepared. He set a safe place for him and his daughter to hide. It was an underground base located far away from his house, connected through a tunnel big enough for his own stature to fit.

He and his daughter crept through the tunnel toward the safe place as soon as the nighfall came.

"Hide and stay here for the night. The night is ripening, it would be dangerous to go outside." He motioned her daughter to go inside to the underground shelter he built.

"Father, what is this place?" Her daughter asked as her eyes roamed around the small stone-walled chamber. "You built this?"

"Yes. And I have no time for another question. We should be keeping ourselves quiet." The man said.

The man went over to a small wooden door and hauled it open. Inside layed different firearms. He took a rifle and gave it to his daughter without receiving any questions and took another for himself.

His daughter hugged the rifle his father gave to her and exhaled a nervous sigh. She shut herself from questioning his father where he got hold of those weapons.

The two of them remained quite. After several minutes, the daughter broke the silence. "Father, do you really think those people, I mean, monsters that you said yesterday could actually be here tonight?" She gulped.

Her father saw the weariness and fear in her eyes. He wanted to protect her at all cost. He smiled but his own worriness failed him. "I don't know." He uttered as his eyes started to mist.

He turned his back immediately and hold back the tears, he didn't want his daughter see him as a nervous wreck and a coward old man that he is right now. He wanted to appear brave. He wanted to reassure her that everything will be alright but he wasn't sure himself.

He heard explosions coming from the outside.

So, it has started. He thought to himself. He immediately positioned himself next to her daughter and held her trembling hands. "Let's just hope for the morning to come."
