Tick.. Tick... Tick... The clock continued with its insistent ticking. My hands trembled as the time edged on, moving so slow I could've sworn it was 2:55 half an hour ago. I begged the time to go faster, just one more minute, then another, and then one more until the clock finally struck 3:00.
Four minutes left
My eyes darted around the room, my ears straining to hear the clock once more as the roar of nonsensical comments and weekend plans invaded my senses. I couldn't tell you what was worse the stench of prepubescent body odor or the idiotic things that fell from my peers' mouths.
Three minuets left
A tap on my shoulder forced my mind further back to reality. I glanced to the seat beside me and smiled at the occupant. Lizzie, a long term friend and the one person who doesn't constantly annoy me with their existence. I smiled in acknowledgement, my leg tapping away as the clock ticked one more minute closer.
Two minuets left
Lizzie noticed my repetitive clock watching and sighed, "Relax, you're gonna be great!"
" What if I'm not scary enough? What if people laugh at me?"
"Gigi, I assure you, with that laugh and your makeup skills you're going to fit right in with the rest of us." Lizzie stood up and started gathering her things.
One minute left.
I followed suit packing up my notebooks as the Spanish teacher wishes everyone a good weekend. The students bustle towards the door, eager to flood the hallways in a matter of seconds. Lizzie and I hang back to avoid the crowds. The hall begins to fill with students as the clock finally cries out that dreaded yet exciting time. 3:00 p.m.
