Chapter 1 - Demanding answers

"Wind came with a soft push and a drop of water hit the ground, the cold air piercing on her skin as she ran with all her might towards the large gates of a castle- " suddenly a knock on the door interrupted her as she was telling a story to the orphans. And with a soft whisper the person at the door mouths to her 'mr.xavier is at the door I'll take it from here", they exchanged glances between them before she got up on her feet. " okay kids alex needs to go home now, I'll be visiting you all another day and we'll continue the story" they all gathered around her hugging her before letting go. She wore her jacket, bid goodbye to the workers there and left. While exiting the building she saw Xavier–her brother– who was leaning by the side of the car, a puff of air visible in the cold weather of winter. As soon as he saw her coming towards him he gave her a smile, his expresiones also giving off that he was really happy at the moment.

She returned the same smile to him, running to get a hug from her brother whom she had not seen for 3 years till now. They hugged each other tightly, Alexandra could feel her eyes begin to sting as a tear made its way down her red rosy cheeks. He cupped her cheeks and kissed her forehead softly, while also feeling his eyes starting to burn.

"Did you miss me? " he asked "of course I did idiot" she replies, and both of them start laughing out loud, a warm feeling warmed their hearts in the bleak winter.

"Where did you escape to?" She inquired seeking for the answer she was long curious to receive.

Softly looking at his little sister he let out a sigh as if promising her to explain everything later and she too didn't question him after that. They entered the car fasting their seatbelts and were on the road. Reminiscing the past and telling each other about the things that had happened the past years when they didn't see nor hear from each other. " I thought you were dead, " with a sigh she turned to him and continued "you could have at least written to me that you were fine!"

While chuckling he replied " I'm sorry your highness it was a top secret mission, just for me, I wasn't really sure I was gonna make it at all..." his voice started fading away by the end of his sentence. Snow was falling heavily outside and it was getting harder to see the road. "So ...what have you do with our home, any changes?" He laughed while questioning.

"Lets just say that your room isn't yellow anymore ,but you still have those small red tinted windows."

"You haven't looked through the locked drawers have you-"

" of course I didn't, whatever you're hiding is safe and sound in the place where it has always been."

"Not for long.." he whispered hoping she wouldn't hear to ask him further. Unfortunately for him she did and she was certainly going to question him later.

The ride in the car was quiet for the remaining time of the journey back home, time to time she would stare out the window watching the white snow fall down like flower petals.

As they slowly entered the forest the road began getting smaller and smaller until there was space for only one vehicle to pass through, they were the only ones around to live in the very centre of the forest surrounded by trees and nature. No other being is ever seen living there, not that they know of that is. Along the way, there's suddenly light in front of them indicating that they were nearing their two story house which also had a large yard with a garden and a parking place in front of the garage.

They got out of their car and walked up the stairs to their house.

" This place,it looks slightly different than before" he said out of nowhere after observing the outside. "Oh, it might be because of the windows, two years ago when I was having a night shift at the hospital there were animals who somehow broke the window and trashed the place around, the cushions were shred to pieces the tv was broken and there was claw marks near your favorite spot by the window." He looked at her with worry wondering if he hadn't found the secret these wouldn't have happened. But it's inevitable, since fate has a way with playing around with everyone. He let out a sigh and decided to get rid of the negativity for the meantime.

"Well- I love how you designed it though, weird how it only took an animal attack to bring out the creative persona of yours" he laughed and she scoffed at him in disbelief

"Brother, how can you say that! I'M YOUR CUTIE PIE LITTLE BABY SISTER!!!" She claimed with a pout on her face which made Xavier laugh even harder since her face really looked like a child's." Ok ok you win" he declared playfully. The proud smile on his sisters face was more than enough to make him happy. She entered the living room with two cups of Black tea and they both saw around the fireplace which Xavier had prepared. She offered one of the cups to him, after taking a sip from her cup she looked up and broke the silence, " you better explain to me right now, everything. And I know for a fact that this probably had to do with the wolves" Xavier was startled, the dangerous glint in his sisters eyes just showed how much she was done from being kept in the dark, he thought for a few moments, giving a second thought to his life choices before mustering up the courage to explain everything that he knew. But he still dreaded that the happiness they had right now would vanish as if it never existed and the happy memories would stay as very distant memories that were once true but in the end were nothing but something they could hold on to after they know the truth and their life would no longer be the same, they themselves would not be the same.
