Chapter 1 - Prologue

The wheels screeched and spewed orange sparks as the black car spun on the pavement. Its back hit a road bench, causing it to bend a little, before coming to a stop. A man in a thick black coat, wearing shades and a bonnet, bolted out of the car. He positioned a handgun in front of him and scanned the area while holding his weapon.

A thud was heard nearby, as if someone stepped on the ground with the ball of his foot then suddenly gone. He aimed the gun to that location but just found trees standing in the dark, the cicadas buzzing in the background.

The man took off his shades and threw it to the ground. He grinded his teeth. "Who are you?" He mumbled while rubbing the trigger of his gun with his finger.

He quickly turned back to his car when he heard grunts and thumping on the door. Damn, the woman was making noise despite being tied and gagged. He could see her eyes and face filled with blood oozing out from her head. She was squirming and kicking the door, as if that would let her out.

The man chuckled while slightly shaking his head. He challenged the woman in a game of stare while sneering. The woman was looking at him with narrow eyes while still kicking the door, the window quivered and for a moment, the man felt afraid that it was going to shatter.

"You damn bitch!" The man scowled as he walked toward the car, pointing the gun at the woman's face. "Do you really think anything's going to save you, huh? I know it wasn't your choice but you're the daughter of the wrong person, and I'm so sorry for you." He chuckled while smiling. "Once you're dead, the president's gonna blame it on the opposition, and that would spark a war!"

The woman's eyes widened. He believed that it was because of his revelation. Once the president's daughter was dead, no one else would be blamed but the people who were not in favor of industrializing the ancestral lands of the capital, led by a senator who had always opposed the idea. Their organization could certainly take advantage of this to bring down the current government and build a new one that was in line with their aim- total control.

His smile faded when he felt a breath touch the back of his neck. When he looked closely at the woman, he realized she was not looking at him, but someone behind his back. The dull reflection of the car window revealed another man wearing a hooded robe.

He wasted no time. He quickly rotated his body and intended to shoot at the man behind him. But the man in robe blocked his arm with the side of his wrist, incapacitating him to even point his weapon at his target. He was highly trained in short-range combats, so he knew that the one he was confronted with had good dexterity and, hopefully not, higher than average combat skills.

He raised his arm over the hand of the robed man so that he could freely point his gun at his body, but just as he thought, he knew how to fight. The robed man bent down and moved below his outstretched arm like a professional boxer, now his front body was fully exposed. But to surprise him more, he struck his hand with the side of his, making him drop the gun, then followed it with two punches delivered to his chest and abdomen. It was so fast, he guessed he would have never really dodged it despite his decade of martial arts training, and it felt like bullets shot through his body.

"Wh-who are you?" He forced himself to ask while touching his chest. Before he realized it, his knees slowly bent and he dropped to the ground, just propping himself with his left hand against the cold pavement.

As answer, the robed man lifted his foot head high and swung it down to his left shoulder like an ax. He felt as if electricity ran throughout his body before it felt numb. His face was now touching the road. He saw his car, and the woman watching everything with huge eyes. He managed to turn his eyes up as far as he could to see his assailant's face. He was met with blue eyes and a smile.

The man in the thick black coat shut his eyes, feeling envy and frustration entering his heart. "Good young man
," he struggled to say before losing all sensations in his body.
