Chapter 3 - The Enchanted Coffee Shop

A little bit away from the bustling city and peaceful streets, stood a modest coffee shop known as "The Enchanted Brew." Charles, a young man with striking looks and a mysterious air about him, was the sole barista and owner who managed the shop. Unbeknownst to the patrons who frequented this place, Charles harbored a secret fascination with all things magical, often finding himself lost in daydreams that transcended the ordinary.

On a particularly snowy day, the coffee shop was abuzz with customers seeking warmth and comfort in the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Charles, however, found himself feeling bored and lonely amidst the sea of faces. "Damn... why are there so many people today? I am so tired," he mumbled to himself, his expression filled with frustration and annoyance.

In the midst of his ennui, a young girl who appeared to be a teenager approached the counter, holding out her payment. Startled, Charles snapped back to reality and greeted her with a professional smile. "Oh, sorry, what was your order?" he asked politely as he handed her the change and receipt.

"Thank you," the girl said with a shy smile before heading towards a corner table with her friends. Charles found himself momentarily lost in thought, imagining taking her to places she'd never been.

Lost in his daydreams, Charles was jolted back to the present when he heard the girl's voice again. "Hey... hey..." she called out to him. "Wait, what?" Charles realized he had zoned out once more. The girl blushed and hesitated before confessing, "You seem very nice, and you're my type too. Can I have your number?"

Charles was taken aback but knew he had to be honest. "I'm sorry, I already have someone I like," he replied, trying to sound gentle and respectful. As the girl ran out of the shop, seemingly heartbroken, Charles felt a pang of guilt.

Recalling the girl's departure, Charles's right hand instinctively reached for the pocket of his pants, a habitual gesture whenever he needed to check his phone. But this time, as he retrieved his device, he was greeted with a delightful surprise. There, on the other side of the thick glass wall, stood the object of his affection, his crush for so long.

Her long wavy blood-red hair cascaded gracefully down her shoulders, catching the faint glow of the nearby streetlights. Her beautiful smile, like a ray of sunshine, illuminated the dreary winter evening. Charles's breath caught in his throat as he watched her, momentarily unable to look away.

Eager to catch her attention, he waved his hand with a hint of desperation. But she appeared to be lost in her own thoughts and didn't notice him at first. Not to be deterred, Charles decided to take more drastic measures. With a surge of excitement, he leaped into the air, jumping three to four times like an enthusiastic child, hoping to capture her gaze.

Finally, his antics worked, and she turned her head in his direction. Their eyes locked, and Charles felt an electric jolt shoot through his body. It was as if the universe had conspired to bring them together in this fleeting moment of connection.

Realizing that she had noticed him, Charles quickly composed himself and tried to play it cool. With a sheepish grin, he waved once more, trying to convey his eagerness to talk to her. He even shouted, "Merry Christmas!" as if to break the ice and share the joy of the season with her.

In the midst of the bustling city and the crowded coffee shop, it felt as if time had slowed down, encapsulating the two of them in a bubble of anticipation and uncertainty. Charles's heart pounded loudly in his chest as he waited for her response, hoping beyond hope that she would acknowledge him in some way.

Yet, as the seconds passed, it became apparent that she was preoccupied, and Charles couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. Perhaps she had somewhere urgent to be or was simply lost in her own thoughts. He couldn't blame her; after all, the world around them was so chaotic and unpredictable.

With a heavy sigh, Charles decided to respect her space and not push further. The last thing he wanted was to make her uncomfortable or come across as overly eager. So, he opted to text her instead, hoping to set up a time when they could meet and have a proper conversation.

As he typed out the message, his fingers hovered over the keyboard with a mix of excitement and nervousness. This encounter was a sign, a sign that he needed to take a chance and let her know how he felt. After all, life was too short to live with regrets, and Charles was determined to embrace the magic of the moment and seize the opportunity that fate had presented him.

Later, when the coffee shop finally cleared out, Charles mustered the courage to text his crush. He sent her messages, carefully crafting each one with a heart emoji at the end, hoping to convey his feelings without being too direct. He knew she had recently experienced heartbreak, and he didn't want to rush her into anything.

As the evening sun dipped below the horizon, Charles closed the shop and found himself on the concrete stairs outside. Frustration overwhelmed him, and he uttered an expletive, venting his feelings to the universe. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it, taking in the view of the bench across the road, where he and his crush had planned to meet later.

The city lights shimmered like stars, and the enchantment of the moment was not lost on him. Deep down, he longed for something magical, something that could bring him closer to his heart's desire.

With the evening turning darker, Charles decided to make his way home, which was a few blocks down the hill. As he walked, he couldn't help but wonder if fate would play its hand, bringing the magic he sought into his life. The thought of seeing her again filled him with both hope and trepidation, but he was willing to take the chance, knowing that some things in life were worth the risk.
