Chapter 2 - You Must Never Know

"Dear You,

Tonight, at Tamales, was fun as usual. I'm the only baby out of the group who can't handle the hottest sauce everyone else gets. I don't care I'm not having my tongue burn up. You guys got a nice laugh out of me complaining as usual.

I know you love our friend group as much as me and everyone else. I can't ruin our friendship with my feelings for you. That's why I write about you here. I feel bad for never giving this poor diary a name to its owner, the fear of someone finding this and exposing me scares me. I'm sad I can't even state your name here despite pouring out my feelings, it would be all too easy to know that I'm talking about someone in the friend group. This diary is more troublesome than I want it to be, but I need a place to let out my feelings for you.

Honestly, though, it'd be pretty hard to find this, I think where I hide it is quite clever. When I was younger I always loved the stories where they hide something precious in the cutout of a book. I'm glad I found a book big enough to do so.

Here I am boasting when I was supposed to be talking about you. I'll just keep my feelings for you to myself cause I don't want to lose you or our friends. Relationships within friend groups can get so messy. My feelings grow for you to grow every day, this is really scary. The more my feelings grow the more I hurt myself.

We could never be, I'm not even your type I'd be such an embarrassment to you. Even if I told you, you would never like me back. I can't lose you as a friend, it's my only way to stay close with you. You're too important to me, and I want to keep hanging out with you. I'll just hold my thoughts in."

As the writing is finished the pen is put up and the pages left to air-dry a bit so they don't smudge. Cheri gets up and looks at her wall clock. It's pretty late at 1:26 AM. She goes to her closet and grabs some clean pajamas. After she finishes getting dressed she kneels down to take one of her storage tubs out from under her bed. Opening it up she grabs the oversized book in it.

She gets up back to her desk and closes her diary then carefully places it in the cutout hole in the large book. Putting the book back in the tub and under the bed. Walking to her door she flicks off the lights and hops into bed for a good sleep.
