"Whatever, let's go". Arianna tapped me on the back. "The earlier am out of this place, the better for me".
"You complain way too much than you should". Melvin told Arianna.
We explored the cave a bit more. We saw large carts of mining products; graphite, diamonds and all. We took some in our bags and walked further to see if we could get some more. After a few more minutes,we turned back towards the entrance of the cave.
_______________
"This is a dead end guys". Ian announced.
I raised my head and looked forward. It really was a dead. We should have been exploring for at least three hours. I checked my pocket watch and it was a few minutes to four. I looked at the others only to find them looking religiously at me.
"What?". I asked but they all remained silent. I knew why they were all looking at me like that,I wasn't willing to let them down yet I had no solution to offer.
*Sigh*. "You know what guys? We'll think of a way out". I paused. "Let's just retrace our steps".
We did retrace our steps but it was to no avail. We kept reaching dead ends.
"Oh God". Maurice wailed.
"Not helping". I reprimanded.
Really it wasn't. For the first time in my life I was scared. Not for myself but for my parents;they had just lost Tuesday and I didn't want them to lose me too. The thought of them crying gave me goosebumps. It had been my dream to leave home but not in a way that they would be worried about me.
We walked around the cave trying to find a way out. We even followed the train tracks.
A few minutes got us tired, hungry and thirsty. We sat down and rested a bit. Then the blame sharing began.
"It's all your fault you know". Arianna said.
"She didn't drag you here". Ian defended me.
"But she did drag you here". She pointed out.
"We can suspend all this blame apportioning till we are out of here you know". Melvin cut in.
"Yeah if we ever get out".
Arianna was right and I was starting to realize. Maurice wailed in frustration. She spent endless minutes lamenting. She cried about all the things she will miss.
"I never thought I would die like this". She cried.
"No one is going to die okay?". Melvin shouted and stood up. "Lets cooperate to find a way out of here". He led the way.
_______________
"What time is it?". Ian's question was directed to me but I didn't answer him.
"What time is it?". Maurice too asked.
This time I couldn't keep mute,I had to answer.
"Half past six".
Everyone was tired, frustrated and worn out. Hysteria was in the air.
***************
The ground above us shook hard and then stopped.
"What was that?".
It happened again,
and again,
and then three times in succession.
Finally rocks fell and the ground shook even harder. The rocks were falling with no mercy so everyone had to take cover.
"Aodh". Ian cried out and held me.
Out of jealousy, Arianna threw my hands from Ian's and pushed me away. For a split second I was separated from the rest of them.
For that split seconds the rock fell in higher numbers and with more force. The rocks formed a wall. I tried to jump through the wall but I couldn't.
The wall closed leaving only a small crevice.
I was at the side of the dead end while my friends were on the other side.
*Thud*
Something fell. It was my torch. Ian's torch flickered to and went off.
We were alone.
I was alone.
Alone.
Forever!
In the darkness.
