Lan was in a fix after that brief meeting with the guys. She had agreed to meet them on the condition that they'll give her the truth and now when she had it in her hands she was scared to go through it.
She knew that knowing this truth was equivalent to gaining a very huge shift in her current life. Her relationship with Lu Nam was on stake and depended on whether she went through the pages of the diary and the files of the mailed folder.
With shaking hands, she picked up her phone and dialled a number which she didn't think she'd call again. The call connected after three rings.
"Lan, are you ok?" Min's voice was anxious, "You haven't been responding to us. I was-" He paused for a moment, "-no we were all so worried about you."
Truth be told he wasn't expecting Han Lan to call him. He had noticed her drifting away from his pathetic self and no matter how many times he told himself that it was alright, he was failing to come to terms with reality.
On the other hand, Han Lan was struck with an unknown lump of sadness in her chest after hearing him speak.
Yes, she had called Min but she wasn't sure of the reason why she did it.
Hearing the raw pain and worry in his voice made her feel more guilty towards him but she somehow squashed the feeling and beat it back to the depths of her mind.
"I don't know why I called-" She spoke her mind.
Min paused for a moment and then chuckled- a sweet sound which melted away the knot in her chest- before speaking again, "I guess you're not able to make up your mind about something important." He stated.
Lan was surprised, "H-How did you know?"
"Ah! In the past, you called me whenever something complicated came up." He replied, "If it's alright then you can tell me about it."
She took a deep breath, "Will knowing my past change too many things? Or is being in the darkness a good thing?" She asked him wanting to know what he thought of her decision.
Min was stunned, he didn't think that a little quarrel would lead to this moment. He inhaled sharply, "Lan, your health comes first." He sounded a little panicked, "Don't be rash about this-"
"Are you fine with me being like this Min?" She interrupted him.
Min was stunned to silence again. He was definitely not fine but he couldn't tell that to her. He blinked away the tears gathered in his eyes, "If it keeps you away from danger and if it makes you happy then everything is worth it."
Lan wiped away her tears. She didn't know when she had started to cry, "That's why you tried to completely erase your presence from my life?" She sounded bitter. Hell, she was feeling bitter.
"I'm not sorry about what I did Lan." He tried to sound stern, "It's for you. I don't regret any of it." It took a lot of will power on his part to not breakdown and confess everything.
"I guess you won't tell me anything yourself after all." She replied with a steely determination, "Thanks for your time."
She now understood why she had called him. She wanted to hear the truth from him but it was a futile wish on her part.
"Lan what are you trying to do?"
"I need to know the truth." She said solemnly, "Bye Min, thanks again."
Before Min could say something else she disconnected the call and picked up the diary lying near her feet.
