Chapter 6 - Chapter 5

I'm about 3 and a half months pregnant. I wake up and decide to start my day. My husband works today, but school got cancelled and i don't have work today so i don't bother putting on real clothes. I decide not to shower and just slip into an old crop top and some shorts. I walk into the bathroom and look in the mirror. Wondering how I got so lucky with my husband when I am the way I am. Looking at what a mess my hair is, a brown tangled mop on my head. All my blemishes, pimples, blackheads, freckles, seeming to stick out on my pale skin. My chubby body, thunder thighs, slight double chin, and pudgy belly. I've always hated my body. I struggle with overeating and not eating enough when I'm upset. When i'm sad i tend to eat a lot, as a comfort thing i guess. But when my anxiety is really bad, I tend to not eat. Not purposely starving myself, but i don't feel hungry and never really think to eat. Once we moved in together I slimmed down a little, but was still a lot bigger than I would have liked. I seemed to have gained some weight again recently though. I wonder what I may have eaten, seen how I am larger than usual. I stand back, looking at my belly, "Holy crap" I say to myself. I started showing. I walk out of the bathroom, excited and kinda nervous, still slightly shocked by the fact that, in a matter of months, I'll be a mother. I head into the kitchen to make something to eat, considering it's almost noon. I remember why I don't like being home alone. It's too quiet. Something my husband has always enjoyed, but I can't stand unless I'm upset. That's something I've always looked forward to whenever I thought about being a parent. Never a dull moment, right?

Sherly, makes her presence known, after following me around all day, by barking at me for ignoring her. I jump, then laugh, bending over to pet her. Sometimes she reminds me of an old dog I had. A small black Chihuahua with brown and white on her face, chest, and feet. That dog would follow me to the ends of the world. If she could, she'd never leave my side. She was never more than 10 pounds and easy to carry, so it was never much of an issue to take her with me to most places. Only issue was she hated everyone except me, including my husband. She may have even bitten him a few times, leaving scars. She died a few years ago though, so it helps having another dog in the house. I look in the fridge and decide to make a toad in the hole (an egg inside of a piece of toast), but after 2 failed attempts and a happy dog, I just make a bowl of ramen. I take my bowl and sit in the living room. I put on a show and sit with Sherly who keeps begging for my food when my phone dings. I open it to see a text from my husband saying 'Good morning babe. I figured you've woken up by now, so I wanted to tell you to have a good day and I'll get off early today so I should be home sooner than usual. I love you. I'll see you later' I smile, laughing at the dork I married. I reply 'You know me too well, I love you too baby, see you in a bit.' I put my phone down, still smiling. I look over at Sherly, still trying to get food and toss a noodle over to her. I finish eating and get up to do the dishes.

Once I'm done I decide to do the laundry so I go and grab the dirty laundry hamper from the bathroom and stop in front of the mirror. Looking at my belly again. Still amazed by the fact that there is a living being inside of me. I grab the hamper again and walk to the laundry room. Sherly, continuing to follow my every move follows me. Once I finish I decide to take her out to get out some energy. I put on some socks and slip on my tennis shoes. I grab my jacket, even though I'm still wearing shorts and an old tennis ball. I head outside, letting Sherly out before me. I put my jacket on and take off running towards the backyard while she is looking around, surprising her. She yelps and takes off after me, we run around while she chases me. I run until I'm too out of breath to continue. I sit and throw the ball, and we play fetch for a good 30 minutes. While we do, I think of how proud I am of this dog and her development since we've had her. She has gone from an underweight, scared, dirty, bag of bones to a pretty chunky, happy, loveable, fluffball. We play fetch until she's too tired to chase the ball anymore, then we head inside. I get her more water and get myself some water too.

I watch a movie and read a bit before checking my phone. I look at the time and realize my husband should be home soon. I make some hamburger patties and cut up onions, tomatoes, and some lettuce. I get the condiments from the fridge just as the door opens. I run and hide behind the doorway to the living room as he walks in, trying to find me. Just as he walks by I jump out and shout "BOO!" He turns around and looks at me, unfazed by my failed attempt to scare him. "Really? Nothing?!" I ask in an exasperated tone. He looks at me and smiles "Sorry babe, you don't scare me." I huff to myself as we sit to eat. Once we are done, I clean the dishes while he puts everything away. We sit in the living room to watch a movie, before it starts I say "oh, I have a surprise." grabbing his hand and putting it on my belly, "I'm starting to show!" I say excitedly. "Oh, is that it?" he says unamused. "What?! You aren't excited?!" I shout. "Well that happens when you are pregnant babe, you get a belly." he says sarcastically. I pout and say quietly "I can't believe you aren't excited." "Don't misunderstand, i am excited. Just not freaking out because your belly is bigger." he says, nudging me. I lay on him, still pouting a little, and we watch our movie. Once the movie is over, I kiss Sherly on the head, and tell her goodnight, then I head into the bedroom. My husband takes a quick shower. And joins me. I wait until he get comfortable in bed and shove my cold feel onto his tummy, making him shout in shock. Pushing my feet off of him, he huffs at my harrassment. I giggle and turn onto my side. He lays behind me, wrapping his arms around me, and we fall asleep.
