"Coming." Jason closed his laptop, missing the mischievous smile on her face. He rubbed his stomach as he approached the dining table with high hopes for a great meal. When his gaze landed on the table, his sentence also stopped midway. "Honey, what's for-"
"Ta-daaaaa," Selina proudly spread her freshly dried palms to present her masterpiece for dinner.
"Uh-m... Selina, what exactly did you watch?" Jason's tongue curved. When he was about to click his tongue, he immediately changed it to picking his teeth. He remembered how much it annoyed her the last time someone accidentally clicked their tongue in the hospital room. Boy, was it a nightmare!
"It was an Asian fusion recipe." She pinched her chin, nodding pleasantly at seeing her beautiful, flamboyantly served meal. There were wonders of rainbow-colored for every dish ranging from bitter to sweet. A uniquely designed fondue was created with a tiny angel standing on tiptoe as chocolate liquid rushed out between its legs. The fudge found its way to recycling around the angel that it continuously flowed.
Jason sucked in his lip and hid his hands. He gulped silently as he looked at the artistic meal before him. He wondered where he should begin eating - everything was similar to abstract art. If this were to be displayed in a museum, perhaps he would even applaud it. However, this was his meal for tonight.
Staring at his wife's eager gaze as if her smile could speak for her soul, he slowly pulled out a seat for her and found ways to delay the time for the meal. "Here, wifey, it must be tiring to cook the whole meal. I think cooking is a very tiring chore for you to do now. Maybe we should hire a nanny, or I could make the meals until later. It'll only get more difficult, you know?"
Of course, behind all the sweet talk, he secretly prayed for his stomach and the toilet he had just cleaned this morning. 'May the toilet endure the number of rounds we will run to the bathroom after this meal.'
"Why aren't you eating? Do you not like it?" Selina rested her chin on the center of her left palm. She glanced at him before getting distracted by the dishes before her. While making the meal, she went overboard and had too much fun cooking. Now, she lost her appetite for the food.
"Well, it looks too nice. I'm not sure which part to eat." Jason looked at the number of solid statues made from various ingredients. He was sure a few statues were missing a few leaves when showing off their muscular arms in the air.
"Are these naked men?" His lips twitched while trying to process what was happening at the dining table. He scratched his head, trying to comprehend what she created from the kitchen. No - it was more like how did she create these...statues. Since when did they have any ingredients to make these distinctive art pieces?
Selina chuckled, "Haven't you seen the latest Playboy?"
That sudden strike of lightning was miserably felt to his chest. "Huuuuh?" He was trying to figure out where and when his playboys got caught by her.
"Relax. I was only admiring the lovely abs in those playboys, plus the mixture of Greek statue style. See? No leaves." Selina pointed at the area between one or two statues where an inevitable organ arose on them.
"Oh, if you don't know where to start, then start with this. Here." Selina took a dark-colored statue from the middle of the table and placed it in a bowl. Then, she took out a blowtorch, which was prepared earlier, but was not brought out.
"Watch carefully." She grinned and licked the corner of her lips. Careful yet efficient, she melted the statue in the bowl. It was similar to a magic trick being performed by a magician. A bowl of hot mushroom soup was brought in front of him. The poor statue was quickly melted by the flames into a cream based liquid.
"Your favorite mushroom soup. It's been a while since I've made something artsy like this. Ah, I've gone a little bit overboard." She pinched a small gap between her right thumb and index finger.
"A little? You're on Picasso level." He laughed lightly. How could he not taste the regular bowl of soup in front of him? His eyes widened as soon as the soup came in contact with his tongue.
"How is it?" Selina blinked, waiting for his feedback.
He didn't bother responding with words. Instead, he put the spoon aside and took big gulps of the soup as if it didn't burn his mouth. "Wow! This tastes delicious! Is there more?" He forgot to wipe the corner of his lips.
"Huh? Yeah. There are three more statues of soup. Each is a different flavor since I wanted to try something new, but I don't have much appetite. But at least you're enjoying the food." Selina didn't have much appetite during meal hours. She would snack throughout the day and drink nutritious soup that her mom and mother-in-law delivered over. Though she tried telling them not to send food over, they were happy to make food for her.
Hence, she would finish the food obediently. Surprisingly, she was not struck with morning sickness. Perhaps it was the early trimester, so she did not get too many symptoms. She had seen and heard how her girls would have difficulty waking, and even going out became a luxury after getting into the later stages of pregnancy.
Although Jason quickly gobbled up her artistic meal, it was a decent meal. After eating, Jason cleaned up and wiped the table while Selina was told to watch television. This became a habit between them. After a good meal, both will spend time cozying on the couch together.
"Here. I made you a fruit smoothie. You had it a few times and complimented the taste, so I requested for the recipe. Try it and see if the sweetness is right." He handed her a tumbler with the smoothie in it. Before tasting it, Selina smiled and reassured him it would be sweet enough. Even if it doesn't have enough honey, it is still sweet to her.
